It is that time of year again when we can start to look forward to the annual fly in. This year's fly in is going to be a lot of fun, maybe even better organized than last year and there will be prizes for each task. Some of the tasks we aim to complete (weather permitting) are listed below. Feel free to contact us with any ideas of your own. There will be an opportunity to try out the trike, and if it gets too windy to fly you can also try out the trike in its kite buggy configuration. We will be having a barbeque midday for those that want it. As ever, there will be plenty of drinks in the evening at Dora's.
The annual Monkey Butler drinking competition will be available. This year you can buy yor specialised Monkey Butler bibs in advance (Herb!)
Camping at is available for those of you that plan to come from some distance, just make sure to eat and drink at Dora's. It would be handy to get an idea of numbers in advance. Everyone is welcome. We can camp behind Dora's if we eat and drink there. I was promised that they will stay open till last person stumbles to their tent. Let me know if you can attend. I welcome all licensed pilots or students holding SPP. All aircraft must be registered a liability insurance should be in place. Get your asses in gear as far as paperwork goes and let me know if you are going to attend! If you plan to fly you must hold a Canadian Ultralight pilot's license. I can issue you with a student pilot permit if I am satisfied that you meet certain criteria. Inquire by email.
PROPOSED FLY IN TASKS (contact us with any other ideas)
Golf ball drop
Simply drop your golf ball as close to the hole as possible. Unlimited attempts. Anyone scoring a 'hole in one' ends the competition, otherwise the closest ball wins.
Power off spot landing
Shut down your engine before the marker and land as close to the target as you can. First foot down counts.
Helium balloon catch
Catch as many helium balloons in your lines as possible. Balloons will be released first. Pilots will then launch, climb and chase the balloons!
Treasure hunt
Read the map, decide what order you will visit the landmarks. You must answer all the questions. (e.g. 'What color is the church door? How many buildings with green roofs are on the same street as the church?' etc). The start and finish times of all pilots will be recorded. The pilot with the most correct answers wins. If all questions are correct, the fastest time wins.
Time trials
Trikes compete (without wings) to cover a measured distance in the fastest time.
Foot drag
Longest continuous foot drag wins.
Touch and go
Land and take off between two markers, taking a predetermined number of steps. If successful you will move on to the next round where the markers will be moved closer together.
Economy
Get 1 l of fuel and stay up the longest
Kiting competition
Pairs will go head to head. Last kite standing moves on to next round. You may 'take out' your opponents kite by using your own wing to deflate theirs. Winners move on to the next round.
GPS 'etch a sketch'
Draw a picture on your GPS. Unlimited entries. You must be flying. Entries will be judged for clarity and humor!
Balloon burst
Burst as many balloons on sticks as possible along the course.
