Great Weekend for PPG training
The forecast looked doubtful with strong winds making reverse launches challenging, but the students all did very well in the conditions and developed pretty good canopy control skills. Sunday afternoon turned out to be much lighter conditions and students were able to master the reverse launch and also try out the forward launch as the wind strength decreased. Just before sunset Art and Kieren made their first solo flights. Not bad for two days of intense training. Well done to all our new students!!
Here is the video from our most recent PPG training session.
Art gets balanced on the Walkerjet 'simulator'
Hamid's turn in the hot seat. Everyone has their own balance point to remember for training flights.
Janus simulating flight control
Out in the field we learn how to untangle the lines and attach the harness.
Then it's time to practice the reverse launch in very strong winds.
Janus has not quite got the lines in the right place this time. It is pretty confusing at first.
Don demonstrating excellent control.
Hamid wrestles 'the beast' - his most powerful opponent yet? Hamid is a martial arts trainer.
Kieran (an experienced skydiver) finds canopy control very different on the ground.
Despite being picked off the ground repeatedly by his wing Art (also a skydiver) is rapidly developing very good ground handling skills and is soon ready to fly.
Kieran goes for a hand tow with Andre and starts to get a feel for the wing.
Before long he has it down and is charging around the field. He too will soon be making his first solo flight.
Art gets used to the trike before making his first succesful solo flight. The take off was through the long grass, but the control was there and he was beaming ear to ear when he landed.
Kieren's first flight is definitely memorable. He has trouble getting seated in the harness and makes the entire fligt hanging from his balls!
Another successful weekend over, we head out for a beer...
