Here in Canada the new season is just around the corner, and with it I know there will be lots more fun this year, as we train new pilots.
| In case you don`t already know, I work at Powered Paragliding Ontario.
Chief flying instructor Andre Zeman is just as obsesessed with flying as I am.
Since moving to Canada, what I am most surprised about, are the differences between the Canadian and US systems. Canada requires you to undertake PPG training with Transport Canada qualified instructors (such as myself, Andre and Frank). You must take ground school (theory), complete various flight tasks and sit a short exam. You then apply for an ultralight license.
In the US it is much more open. There is no legal requirement to undergo any training. Most US pilots do undergo a course of some sort or other, although legally it is possible to fly without instruction (not too many people manage to get themselves in the air though!) |
