Crops
You can purchase crops from Vesta at her store, where stock remains the same year-round. Crops need to be watered at least twice a day, but not on rainy days. You can use fertilizer to raise crop quality. Seeds come in packets of one, and in addition to crops, you can plant trees. Prices listed are for the crops of "B" quality.

Rather than growing grass on your fields, you have a pasture instead.
Hybrid Crops
One of the new innovations in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is the addition of Hybrid Crops. These new crops can be made by Tartan the Plant. You can get him starting in Chapter 2, just go into Takakura's home when he is there (around 5:00 PM) and you'll get a scene in which you meet Tartan. Afterwords, just talk to him every day and you will eventually get the option to make a hybrid.
