Harvest Moon (牧場物語, Bokujou Monogatari, Ranch Story) is a series of farm life simulation role-playing games. The series launched off in 2003 by Yasuhiro Wada, with his game Harvest Moon: SNES. The long-time running series consists of many different games with various depictions of country life. Harvest Moon was initially distributed by Victor Interactive Software which was later acquired by Marvelous Interactive in 2003. English translation and distribution of the game is handled by Natsume in America, and Rising Star in PAL territories.
The objective of the game often revolves around maintaining a successful farm, befriending the village's inhabitants and getting married. Gameplay elements regularly include nurturing crops and livestock, fishing, mining, collecting items, home and tool improvements and building personal friendships. Players face the challenge of balancing time and a limited amount of strength on a day-to-day basis, completing numerous goals and progressing further throughout the years and what frequently remains as endless gameplay.
