One of the main points of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is that your son can grow up and choose a career of his own.

Mr Potts

In Special Edition, there is the choice of having either a son or daughter, if you do not contact Mr. Potts, which you will have is random. To get to Mr Potts, you have to eat one of the mushroom's in front of the tree with the small door that's near the waterfall. You will then shrink and enter he Sprite's house. At the back, there is a line of pots. Select "Check", you have to press this numerous times until you read Mr Potts say "You win." Then go to the Sprite's and they will ask you which gender child you want.

Careers

  • Animal Farmer - Keep your son with you and on your farm
  • Produce Farmer- Take your son to Vesta's Farm, make friends with Vesta, Marlin, and Celia
  • Musician- Take your son to the Mansion and Gustafa's House, make friends with Lumina, Romana, Sebastian, and Gustafa.
  • Artist- Take your son to Cody's House, and become friends with Cody.
  • Scholar - Take your son to Daryl's House and the Ruins, become friends with Flora, Daryl, and Carter.

Toys and Interactions

During Chapter 2, you can buy several toys from Van for your child. You start out with a scratch pad, and can buy a block set, a ball, and a toy car from him. They range in price from 350G to 500G.

Also during Chapter 2, there will be times when your child will ask you to carry him. You can do this by picking him up when the heart icom appears in the Button Guide. However, be careful how often you do this, as you can spoil him and effect his behavior in later chapters.

  • Talk- He will tell you what he wants you to do, or babble.
  • Pat on back- You can do this wiht the X Button, he won't ask for it much, but you can still do it.
  • Toss Him- Do this by pushing the Control Stick Up
  • Snuggle- Do this by pressing the Y Button

Interests

During Chapter 3, you will give your child his own room. He will then put stuff in it that reflects his interests. The various items that you can find in his room tell you what his interests are, and what people in the village he's friends with. Here is some helpful hints as to what the items mean:

  • Potted Plant: interest in plants
  • Painting: interest in art, friends with Gustafa
  • Another Painting: interest in art, really good friends with Gustafa
  • Musical Instrument: interest in music
  • Skeleton: interest in science
  • Fossils: interest in science
  • Empty Flask: a bit mischievious, interest in science
  • Bookshelves: interest in learning
  • Sandbag: interest in exercising
  • Weights: interest in exercising
  • Dead Branch: a bit mischievious
  • Wooden Box: a bit mischievious
  • Empty Sake Bottle: a bit mischievious but will still listen to what you say for some reason.
  • Another Chest: very obedient
  • Fireworks: friends with Kassey and Patrick
  • Sheets of Metal: friends with Cody
  • Totem Poles: friends with Ruby and Tim
