Adding Track logs to Google Earth
Visit GPSVisualizer.com to convert your file into a .kml format that can be viewed with Google Earth in glorious 3D!!. It is pretty simple, but here is the 'step by step' for the technophobes...
First upload your data from your gps device.
Then save your track log to your computer.
Fill out the online form at GPSVisualiser.com.
1. Under the General map parameters section, select Uncompressed (.kml) for the Output format: field.
2. Under theTrack Options section select absolute for the Altitude mode: field.
3. Experiment with all or none of the form fields.
4. Browse to the location of your gps file, in the Upload your GPS data files here: section.
5. Press the Create KML file button.
One of two things will happen:-
EITHER: You will be taken to a screen that has a link to your new kml file.
OR: You will be informed that you need to change your file format with GPS Babel, before converting to Google's .kml format.
Let's assume everything worked (for now)
Clicking on the link will open up Google Earth (if you have it installed on your computer). Here you will be able to view your GPS track log in glorious 3D!
If you want to save the file (to e-mail to friends or upload to a website) just go to:-
File - Save as (within Google Earth), then name your file and choose the Kml (*.kml) file type.
IF IT DIDN'T WORK One solution might be to convert your original gps file to a recognisable format first. This can be done with GPS Babel.
Select the name of the file type you wish to convert and what you want it to be converted into. GPX is recommended
Once you have converted your file to a format that can itself be turned into Google's .kml format you can return to GPSVisualiser.com and repeat the steps above.
Here's what the end results should look like in Google Earth.

It really is much simpler than I have made it sound. Best thing to do is visit GPSVisualiser.com and have a play.
