Mining
You need a hammer to mine rocks inside of the caves. If you till 50 squares in Carmite Cave, Leo will give you a hammer if you talk to him inside of his shop. Now you can start mining!
When you are mining, you will always have a chance to get an amazing ore with a cheap hammer, but the chances of getting it is very unlikely; chances are you will get scrap iron. When you upgrade your hammer, you have a bigger chance of getting the ore that you want, because you can charge up your hammer now. Obviously, in Carmite Cave, you won’t get many high selling ores even if you have a silver hammer, but go to, for example, Mt. Gigant, and you can make more than 100,000g in 1 day! Also, it seems as if the chances of getting better ores increases the deeper in the cave you are, but this hasn’t been proven yet.
There are many different types of ore that you can mine out of rocks. You may notice that at the beginning you will very often get scrap iron. That is because your mining level is low, you are at the first out of 8 caves, and you are probably not too deep in the cave yet. Once you mine a little bit, upgrade your hammer, and are mining near the end of the cave, you will get the ores that you want. With the ores that you get, you can make weapons and accessories, and, as I said before, you can make quite a bit of money once you get to Clemens cave or further.
