I remember learning about Harvest Moon in a Nintendo Power magazine. The issue's main article was about the upcoming AWL. At first I ignored the article because it looked super odd, but one day I was so bored, so I decided to read it. I think I was in fourth grade at the time. It just sounded so different than the usual games that I play, so I decided I would buy it on release and try it out.

I guess that's why I still like it. It's so different compared to other games. I'm also really big into the laid back and relaxing games, and that's how I feel when I play Harvest Moon. I also like how free it is and how much decision you get to put into it. It has a ton of replayability.

I'm so terrible at fighting games it's extremely laughable

For example, my brother will make me play COD with him. Cool, right? I freak out and shoot EVERYTHING.


So yeah. But I'm always looking for RPGs, and I'm really into the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series right now. I don't get it.


I'm always looking for games that don't require shooting or giant bosses chasing after you, and Harvest Moon just happened to fit that bill. I tried it out by renting it at Hollywood Video first (yeah holy crud those were still around when I was a kid) and I'm pretty sure that was AWL. I liked it and here I am right now. :B

yeah ..so I tried othere games than harvest moon ..like call of duty black opps ..and I didnt get it like why there is soo many killing and guns and stuff like that ?? it sooooo boring I actally think it sooo funny (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaevil.gif)

I like everything exceept for sports games, certain simulations, and strategy. I love action, platformers, advenutures, RPG's and certain shooters

however for the harvest moon games I just liked it I hated it when I first tried back to nature on the playstation but I picked up more friends of mineral town for the GBA and I've loved it ever since.

I remember playing it on the Playstation. All the girls I knew at the time were playing it and they were HAWT! so, that's why I satared playing.

It's a nice and relaxing game to play with some deep enough elements to keep my attention.

It's part of my childhood. <3 It's odd. My brother was the one who randomly came across Back to Nature in a shop when we first moved here (I think, bad memory) and bought it for my interest. X'D I love you sometimes brother. <3

I like HM because it's nice to have something different and relaxing to play. And the bachelors. Gotta love 'em.

the games are chill. I like life planning (what to plant, buy, raise, who to befriend, woo) amd picking my WAIFU or not I got virtual commitment issues lol.

I seldomly play now, but I have enjoyed playing a game in which I see the ramifications of my decisions in a positive way.

I watched my brother play Harvest Moon 64 when I was really young and enjoyed playing that. And now I have to get every game (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaeyes.gif) EVERY game (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I haven't been motivated to play lately. I did pick up Rune factoruy 2 again.

I need to finish that so I can start 3,,,,that I haven't even unwrapped yet x.x I'm so close to beating it too...

Hrm. Wow, I've never answered a topic like this before? Huh.

Well, as of right now, I enjoy Harvest Moon mainly for the micromanaging tasks. It's odd, because with games that focus on things besides micromanagement, I hate having to micromanage anything. But Harvest Moon handles it in such a way that it's actually fun. It's not just mindless busywork like in some RPGs, it's the entire game and your ability to micromanage has a direct effect on how things on your farm pan out. It's a welcome deviation from the fighting games, platformers, and RPGs that I usually play.

I remember going down the street to my friend's house to play Mario Party 4. At the time, I only had the N64 and I was obcessed with the Mario Party series, and I still am! my friend's grandmother, who was a video game freak, had got him the game because she liked it. He, on the otherhand, hated the concept of farming for fun. So he gave it to me. It was AWL. I loved the idea of growing up and having a family and caring for animals! Then I got to the end of AWL and I got mad that my character died and protested the game, not knowing you could still play.

I also find my friend hating the game ironic because he is now obcessed with ToT and AP (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I remember reading about the original game for the SNES in a copy of EGM2 (at least, I'm PRETTY sure it was EGM2 and not Nintendo Power)... ah, I miss EGM2. Introduced me to Suikoden, too. And Final Fantasy.

Anyway... HM sounded unlike any game I'd ever played before in my life (much in the same way they got me interested in Suikoden), and I had a chance to try it out from a rental store. I loved how relaxing and fun it was. No fighting monsters, level-grinding, no platforming or racing or any real competition. I think that's what's stuck with me throughout. The series in general is pretty laid-back, but not so much so that you get bored (though there are exceptions, there's usually plenty to do).

The atmosphere in most settings is very cozy and somehow nostalgic (there are many towns I wish I could live in), the socialization and romance aspects are really fun as you uncover more and more dialogue and learn more about each villager (even if they're fairly bland), and I really love the interaction.

Plus, it gets me in a fanfic mood. Gets the creative juices flowing, and I do love to write. The games are open-ended enough that you could reasonably expand on them in a myriad of ways.
