So. Anyone read any good books, lately?

I've read lots of good books lately, sadly, I bet most people have never heard of them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalatounge.gif)

I'm working on the Once and Future King series by T.H. White. I've read The Sword in the Stone, The Witch in the Wood, and The Ill-Made Knight in that series. I actually read two different versions of The Sword in the Stone, and The Queen of Air and Darkness - which is The Witch in the Wood horribly abridged. -_- I've only got The Candle in the Wind and The Book of Merlyn left in that series. I've got a book about medieval mythical beasts by the same author on hold at he library.

I'm also reading L. Frank Baum's Oz series. I'm on the third book, Ozma of Oz, in that series.They make such cute fairytales~!

I'm re-reading the Warriors series by 'Erin Hunter'. I love reading about cats, and Cheridith and Kate have created such an intricate and fascinating world involving wildcats. It really draws you in, and it remind my a lot of Watership Down - which is one of my favorite books.

I've got a few other books on hold at the library. I've got a complete book of Grim's Fairytales, The Last Olympian, and a book called The Ghost Belonged to Me, by Richard Peck. The last one I just put on hold today because I found out that one of my favorite movies is based on it!

I was just thinking about this topic.

I find it hard to find someone with a good writing style or just generally a good book, but the one I just got through reading was pretty good. It's called Push, and the author is Sapphire. It's about this African-American teenager from Harlem who's suffered a lot of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in her home. She's completely illiterate and has two children at the age of 16 (I believe). I'll put a more detailed subject matter in the following spoiler, because it's not really something you younger guys should be reading, because it's really deep and traumatic. A caring teacher comes to her aid, and helps her change her life for the good.

One of my all time favorite books that I read last school year was The Book of Lost Things. It's the story of a young boy finding a world all based on the many books he had read/heard of. It was quite a thrilling tail and in my oppinion, it reminded me a lot like Kingdom Hearts. I don't mean like there was fighting and heartless and stuff, but throughout the boys journey in this magical world he would come across stories/characters of old classics such as Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Hanzel and Gretel, etc. Also, the tales had big twists on them and "were told the wrong way," as in how Snow White really wasn;t found by the dwarves, she found the dwarves and enslaved them, or how the Wolf didn't stalk Little Red, she stalked him.

That sounds very interesting. Who is it by?

Also, the book I was talking about, Push, is becoming a movie called Precious. So, the above link will give you some information about that. I'm feeling a little disappointed though, because I think the movie is going to be lacking some important things from the book. But, that might be good, because it might be a little more appropriate for younger audiences.

Nobody reads the same books as me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalacry.gif) But I already knew that.

Anybody read any classics?

Like, White Fang, Call of the Wild, Black Beauty, A Little Princess, and so on? I've read all of those, White Fanh and Call of the Wild I've read three or four times each.

Or has anybody read some of the other series I've read. It's been a while, but I've read the His Dark Materials series, The Inheritence Cycle, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I've read the Harry Potter series too, but I already know pretty much everybody's already read those.

I read Once and Future King in two days back in Junior High..8? 9? years ago? It was all in one volume. I really liked it and now that you've mentioned it I may pick it up again when I have more free time. If you like King Arthur, Stephen Lawhead has an awesome series about it and BBC has a show, although they aren't exactly following the Legends.

I also used to read the Oz books. ^_^ The one I remember the best was the one with the Tinman's past. My grandmother had that book and it was shelved in the room I stayed in, so I would read it when I spent the night.

Never read the Warriors, although I bought some for my brother. I did love the Redwall books growing up, have you ever read those?

I'm so happy I'm not the only one to have read the Once and Future King! But if you liked it all in one volume, I suggest seeing if your library has The Sword in the Stone and The Witch in the Wood by themselves. It's almost like reading a different book - especially with The Witch in the Wood. I think I might look and see what books Stephan Lawhead has written on King Arthur, once I get through all the other books I've got out of the library right now.

I think I've got the first Redwall book somewhere in my room, but I've never read it. I know a tiny bit about the books though, I saw bits and pieces of the show on PBS years ago, and I've read the summary on the book. I can't decide if it's something I will like or not.

Crank by Ellen Hopkins is epic. Like it blows my mind awesome. C:

Yeah? I'll have to do that. :D When college stops kicking my butt. His series starts with Merlin's parents, and then Merlin growing up and then Arthur and so it. Its great, very long though. Now I want to read them again as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

The PBS show was hard for me to watch without cringing. Haha. But I loved the books when I was a kid. From what I've heard about Watership Down and Warriors if you like those, you'll like these. Its hard to explain the premise, but its a world without humans. I dunno. I liked them a lot.

Yeah! With The Sword in the Stone, some sections where replaced with others, but it was more or less the same. But The Witch in the Woods is like an extention to The Queen of Air and Darkness (which is the version used when the books are printed together). It's a hundred and sixty pages longer, and gives a much better idea of what Gawaine and his family is like. I actually read it first and was disappointed with The Queen of Air and Darkness by comparison.

I'm re-reading through Warriors in my spare time right now, trying to get ready for the next cycle of it. Not to mention all the others books I'm reading at the same time. >_> Yeah, I think I may have gotten into too many things at one time . . .

I just looked at my bookshelf, and I don't seem to have Redwall. I could have sworn I did, I must have packed it up or turned it into a used bookstore. I remember I was interested in reading it, but what I'd heard made it seem like the made the animals a little too human for my tastes.

Going through the books on my shelves was great though. I saw Island of the Blue Dolphins on there, and that is one the best books ever.

One Book I can't Get enough of is "Thirteen Reasons Why" By Jay Asher!

Oh my gawd, I remember that book! We read it in fifth grade, and I started reading ahead and my teacher told me not to, but I had it at home, so I read the rest of it there, and was done days before the class. xDDD It was an awesome book, if not a little sad. :( And then there was Animal Farm that we read in seventh. After we read it, we watched some different versions of the movie. One live-action one I thought was even better than the book; but only because it had a more satisfying ending. :]

What I'm really into right now is the Truth series by Dawn Cook. It's so good! I finished the first one about a week ago, but I haven't been able to go to the store to get the next one!! *cries* But I found this thing on Google, called Google Books, where you can Google a book, and actually read it online!! :D But it warns that some pages might be omitted. :(

I think I had to read Island of the Blue Dolphins for school the first time, too. It's one of the few books I had to read for school that I actually liked - and I love it. I think I checked out of the library a couple times before I bought it from a used bookstore.

I never have seen the movie though.

I remember staying a few days at someone's house and hearing a little of the Island Of the Blue Dolphins. Which I did not like, I can't remember why though. That was at least 8 years ago though.

Cam Jenson was amazing! I read every volume my school had.

Any one read Junie B Jones? The old stuff, not the 1st grade or whatever.

How about the Box Car Children? I read the first ten or so of them in order, but there were too many to get them all. I liked them, but my sister was really into them.
