Once you have access to the Paddy, you need to set a Yellow Wonderful into your Hoe in order to till the Paddy and plant the Rice.
Thats what I found. Why not try again? |

Thats the thing... I have the yellow wonderful attached to my hoe when I try... the only thing I can think of is that you need a yellow wonderful on your hoe and your hammer...

DONT GROW CROPS. Seriously, they are annoying to grow outside because the weather is unpredictable.

Well, yeah, but I barely grew those turnips. =[ I suggest saving them for a greenhouse.

Kozunai, with the yellow wonderful in your hoe, charge it up (glowing orb flash as you hold onto the button where your hoe is equip) then hit a spot in the rice paddy. It should show up. I had trouble with that, too, and had to figure it out on my own. When reaping your rice, you have to charge your sickle (with a yellow wonderful inside) to slash and hack it. The rice is only ready when it's brown! (Trust me, I didn't know that and just kept ruining my crops.)
Check when you're planting the rice, too. I planted mine in early Summer and they didn't make it even until the end of Fall, so they died. I lost money on that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) Early Spring is a good time to start. or if you're a bit late, try late Spring too, I guess. Make sure you have a thresher for your rice when you have those grains. After a whole year's waiting on the rice and finally being able to reap the fruits of my labor, I was at a loss on how to make it into cook-able rice. I then had to build a Supply Shed, upgrade it, and find 20 adamantite to get a thresher. Believe me, this rice paddy gave me heck 'cause I was so confused, but I needed to figure it out because Vaughn really really realllly likes porridge. @_@; Uhm, if you talk to Taro, he tells you the next day's weather, so the weather isn't completely unpredictable. Naah, thats not what I meant. I meant when your crops are outside, you're at the mercy of the weather. =[ Which I find stupid.

You have to build bridges and roads and such for more people to move in, and make your town develop. Hes also in the 2nd year I believe.
