Err, it's okay to make a topic on this, isn't it? I saw a bit of scarce discussion in that The Bar thread, but I was surprised there wasn't a dedicated thread here. (I'm hoping it isn't like Something Awful where that kind of thing is frowned upon.)
Anyway, I'm pretty sure everyone here knows what this is about. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I'll leave out the "brony" movement (except to say: I love the show, but generally disassociate myself from the "brony" aspect because most bronies I've dealt with irritate the mess out of me). But I do think the show is hilarious, and not even in an ironic way - I do love it for what it is. I think it helps that Rarity, Twilight, and Pinkie are funny as helk. So... shall we discuss it? |

I haven't watched much of it myself, but my brother likes it.
I personally don't really see why it's so big; from what I saw, it looks like it's supposed to be for kids. |

Don't take this personally.
Ponies can go die in a ###### fire. Preferably one that's hotter than the gosh darn sun. That is all. |

Depends which episodes you saw. If they were the two episodes of the series premiere... yeah, I can see how you'd get that impression.
Thing is, the creators aimed to make a show kids and adults alike could enjoy (instead of the whole big divide between the age groups), and I don't see the harm in that. They've got some pretty well-placed references for older audiences (Indiana Jones, Metal Gear Solid, I Love Lucy) that still make sense to the younger generations watching, and I think the humor does a good job of appealing to all ages while being funny in multiple ways. Kinda makes me think of the "What A Cartoon" line-up from Cartoon Network. (Well, minus Cow & Chicken...) I'm not gonna say "Oh, you don't watch it, YOU MUST, JOIN US," (disrespectful and pushy, if you ask me) but I always do wonder why people fuss over why someone else likes something. Or why they waste time bashing what they hate simply because others brought it up. Seems like a waste of time. |

Honestly, my hatred of it is more in relation to the brony subculture than anything else. I know too many of them in person and have been subjected to their bullshit one too many times.
As for the show itself, I do give it credit for not being horribly written, but I can't say that I enjoyed it in any form or fashion. Granted, I've never been a fan of My Little Pony, not even when I was a kid. I owned one MLP toy back in the early nineties, but that was a gift from a relative who had no idea that I would've been much happier with a Power Rangers toy or a Barbie. I dunno. I just found the characters grating and the plot not enjoyable enough to justify subjecting myself to it. That said, people are perfectly free to enjoy the show. :D Still, I'd rather it just burn. It would save me a lot of hassle. (And it would save me from having to say, "###### ponies. Don't bring them up; I don't care.") |

I dunno, you sure seem invested in your disdain for it for someone who claims to not care. Why not just ignore my bringing it up to begin with, and leave the people who like it to just like it? Besides, it seems selfish to want something to disappear because you hate the fanbase (and there are plenty of fanbases as obnoxious as the bronies... pretty much every fanbase). There's entertainment for you, go and enjoy it. There's entertainment you don't like, why fuss over its existence?

I'm invested in my disdain and/or love for everything. Honestly, it's just what I do.

I suppose so, it just seems pointless to invest your hate so much. Indifference is my favorite thing. I don't go into a House thread and rant about how I hate the show. I just... don't watch the show anymore, move on, avoid any discussion topics about it because why?, and enjoy what I like while not trying to impress my feelings upon anyone else because I respect their tastes as long as they respect mine. Or, it'd be like me going to a Star Trek convention. I don't care for Star Trek. Never did. No desire to involve myself with it. Why am I there?
Nothing personal, I just find the practice too draining to keep up with, personally. I prefer to dabble in constructive criticism or enjoyment, myself. Although, like I said, I do understand the disdain for the fandom (especially when those fandoms argue over the pettiest things, like eye color or fanon vs. canon). But if I wanted the central reasons for the fandoms to disappear, I'd be losing plenty of music and games I loved. |

Naw, I get you. My statements weren't meant to be taken personally either.
As for me, I find getting emotionally invested in fiction to be fun. It doesn't really matter if it's pointless. I don't actively seek out Brony forums or message boards and then post on them. That would take way too much effort and get me nothing but a bunch of angry bronies on my trumpet. (Of course, if I was actually looking for a fight, that's another story.) Also, if this were any other forum, I probably would have just ignored the topic, but we're a little slow these days, so I tend to read every new topic regardless of whether I like the subject matter or not. Fair enough. I do like to try and liven up forums, although I know with a series like HM, it's a bit of work to do.
There are some other fandoms and whatnot that I don't see threads on that could spark some fun discussion, and I'm inquisitive as helk, so I think I could try and do my part. |

My boyfriend is a hardcore Brony... even for christmas he got a sweater that reads "Keep Calm and Brony On."
I don't mind it, the one quirk that I hate is when they are referring to a crowd as "Every Pony" and the horse puns get too frikken old. |

Just depends on what sort you're looking for. One kind of reminds me of Higurash ino Naku Koro Ni... err, minus the excessive death and gore. Although a ball is murdered. |

NOT THE BALL. O//A//O;
But I just haven't watched it because I haven't gotten around to it. I don't know when it's on TV, but it's probably really early in the morning. As for watching it online, I normally just take a long time to getting around to doing that. I'm sure, randomly and eventually, I'll watch it. |

I initially despised the show because of it's fanbase. I generally won't try something if I find the fanbase obnoxious. Why? Because I just don't want to deal with it. Furthermore, the 1980s version was too girly for me. When I was a little girl. So I wasn't about to watch a reboot of it in my twenties.
However, I did hear a few fair arguments about it from people who weren't super annoying. So I decided to give it a try and see what all the fuss was about. It's . . . good. I don't think the show is worth all the fuss it gets, but it's a pretty good cartoon. The animation is good, the voice acting is good, the music is . . . a mix. It's probably one of the best cartoons on right now, but that's really not saying much at all. In short, I like it and I do watch it. I just don't find it to be as fantastic as some people do. |

Mizuki needs to be about 20% cooler. And watching this will help.

Listen.
I'm into some flamboyant/childish/family friendly things. But I'll never be a brony. And nobody should be. |
