Yesterday evening, I was preparing dinner which included some variety of hot pepper. Thinking nothing of it, I cut the peppers with my bare hands; minced finely and put into the dish we were having.

12 hours later, I woke up fine as you please and took a shower to start the day. Some time after that, my hands began to burn very painfully. Moving the fingers would provide a little relief, and soaking them in water also provided some temporary relief, but within a minute of removing them the temperature would go right back up.

Not knowing what to do, I turned to the internet and found one of those web forums only old people use (you know the ones), where the topic was hot pepper burns. I read the entire thing, and tried some of the suggestions but one in particular stood out more than the others despite being recommended by one person, and not responded to; hot water. While everyone suggested milk-based mucous substances (like yogurt, and sour cream) this one suggested placing your hands under as hot a water as you can endure, the idea to let the pores on your skin open wide to allow the chemical causing the burns to escape. After 3 very hot sets of water soaking, the pain is almost entirely gone.

This is not the first time where I've been so stumped I didn't know what to do, and the internet helped me out. What other saves have the net provided you?

That must have been fairly painful. At least you know how to avoid it now.

The internet has helped me in a number of aspects of my life, I feel; most recently I have been using Calorie Count to watch what I eat. This site has done more than give me a chart to record what I consume, but has actually made me feel physically and psychologically better. Not even a month ago before starting this site I was constantly checking my heartbeat and feeling very paranoid I was going to die on a somewhat regular basis. I no longer feel this way because I know where I stand in terms of my eating habits and I have made the necessary improvements. The site made me realize what I was lacking in my diet, which actually explains the heart issues I felt I was having.

Ranch Story has obviously had an impact on life, which may be seen as both positive and negative - though I'll take the positive. This place has given me a community to escape whenever I want. It's a lovely place to be.

I don't have any stories about a burn but I had one about a Cut a bad one too. Welll I don't remeber how it happened but my arm had a very long cut on it. and long thin slice it seemed. It was too long for bands we didn't have enough medical gauze or type then My long lost sister showed up with her Netbook looked it up like BAM and said "Get the Super Glue!" then she put that on it and it sealed the cut it was beginning to bleed. It suck waiting fir the glue to peal off though.

Wikipedia.

It can make me an expert about something in roughly five minutes.

Oh, Google Documents is amazing! Seriously, working on a spreadsheet or word document with other people simultaneously from different locations is incredibly useful.

If I wasn't using the internet, I'd probably be doing something constructive.

With the internet, I see there is a big, bright accepting world full of possibilities and friendship outside of Texas.

I would have gone mad without the internet.

The internet has probably done the opposite of save me, but I don't know what I would do without it.

I recently got a rash on my legs {attractive, huh?} and wasn't sure what the heck is was and found out it was a heat rash and that it most likely meant I was allergic to something. It also helped me recently find out how to make my spider plant even happier {yippy for it!} but it didn't help me find out what kind of tree I have.

Besides things like, I "met" my best friend who I've now been talking to for almost six years this summer and we can go months without talking and pick right back up where we left off, I've never had that with any other "real life" friendship.

Also, the forums I visit, including this one, give me a place to really be myself and talk to people and get away from horrible, horrible reality. I'm considered "cool" by some people on the internet, whereas in real life I'm a dork. xp

It's also made it easier to find pictures of the gorgeous men I become obsessed with... And what the heck would I do without that!?

Hmm...the internet has saved me from many depressing times.
Especially when I was younger and had to deal with lots of family issues...
