I realize only a select few of us actually watch CityTV Toronto what with it being Canadian and centered around Toronto. But my word, they just layed off so many people yesterday! Anne Mroczkowski, who is the face of the news alongside Gord Martineau, was even layed off! Her and Gord made the news for over twenty years. What is wrong with this world?

The site immediately hid all their faces and blogs. This is appalling.

Yet we still have Michael Kuss here! Ergh.

Was the news station having some hard financial problems or something? And I mean the fact that they laid off workers who had been there for 20 years is pretty shocking, those seem like they'd be the last to go off the station unless they just wanted some new faces on there, but wow that's terrible.

In recent years a number of large media companies in Canada have been buying each other out and moving around. Rogers recently bought CityTV and CityNews which was followed by the building of a rather awesome new studio in the heart of downtown Toronto. Rogers claims there were financial issues and that their reasoning was strictly economic, but one can't help wonder if there was more to it.

Out of curiosity, why were most of those laid off women?

And why Anne of all people? She and Gord were the face of Toronto's news!

We can always dream.

Actually, I'm still annoyed by the set change on The National. Everyone standing around a desk that's too short... it's awkward. Why change something that wasn't broken?

On the subject of the layoffs - I guess this gives merit to the struggles of local television? Interestingly, I haven't seen any of those disinformation advertisements in a while (thank goodness).

I'm sorry to hear that. It's never good to see layoffs, especially in a setting like a television station. But the way it looks, it sounds like there is more than financial issues...

Wow, I can't believe I didn't hear about this.

That's weird that they'd lay off big names and especially people who everyone recognizes. I wonder if she was being paid the most and wouldn't take a cut in her salary?

I don't watch local news anyways, I actually rarely watch any kind of news unless it's shocking.

And they were for awhile charging us on tv bills to help pay for local television and then eventually it disappeared. There was a commercial about people complaing about it, they probably got enough people to send in complaints that they just took it off.

We need to kill the internet and save all the other media jobs. What good has the internet done us anyway!?
