Plain and simple, have you ever got into a game series because you learned about the character(s) from playing Smash Bros?
In an example, Fire Emblem vaguely sounded familiar, but after playing Melee and thinking Roy and Marth were pretty awesome, I decided to give the series a chance. I was fairly surprised and initially disappointed when I got Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Ike's first game, doesn't feature Roy or Marth) because the game play was fairly limited. I got more interested when I got further cuz I realized it was much harder than other games, including other tactical games. Then later when Ike was announced for Brawl I thought that was pretty awesome, but I miss being able to play as Roy and I enjoyed his game (Fuuin no Tsurugi, or the Sealed Sword) much more than Ike's. I was already familiar with the games from every other series (I even had Game and Watch Gallery for the original Game Boy) so Fire Emblem was really the only one that was new to me. |

I got into the Zelda games after three Super Smash Bros. I had always heard they were pretty good games, and just decided to buy both Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time on the Wii Shop Channel about a month ago.
I also decided to play Pikmin after Smash Bros, too. I'm not very crazy about it, but it's kind of fun. |

Hmm.... I think I've played the games then played smash bros. But I might play Earthbound sometime because my brother keeps on telling me I'd like it. Maybe Metroid too.
I just can't be bothered. |

EarthBound's gameplay is a lot like Pokemon's, with the battles being done by turns and leveling-up, but the experience comes faster and you get more than 4 moves. Also, you can walk in more than 4 directions :P Of course you play as Ness and his friends instead of some kid and his Pokemon. The real draw to it is the humor and plot.
Metroid is mostly 2D adventuring, like older Mario/Sonic games, but you're in one gigantic dungeon full of weird alien monsters and secret items, with the game generally never telling you where to go next. The Metroid Prime games are first-person shooters that still keep the monsters and secrets, but they at least tell you what direction to head in. I was a pretty big Nintendo fanboy, so there were only a select few characters that I didn't know about when each of the SSB games came out. The biggest jump was just as you said, Fire Emblem, because it really wasn't widely known in the states until SSBM came out. But other than that, I had played everything from Earthbound to Zelda. I had good roots growing up. Heh. I dunno about getting that Staffy game for the DS though. It looks a little too... cutesy for me. But again, that's another game that was never 'westernized' until SSB gave it a debut.
showchoirgirl: I'm so sorry that you are only just now getting into the Zelda series. They truly are phenomenal. Since you've downloaded the two for the N64, I would also recommend the SNES one, A Link To The Past. It is the traditional top-down style of play that made it famous back in 1987. Only if you feel you can be a true hardcore fan would I say get the first two for the NES though, because the first one is insanely hard, and the second one got a bad rep for the style of gameplay it incorporated. |

I remember playing as Ness in Melee and didn't even know who he was. So I went out and found out and discovered Earthbound and even got to play it. Wow, good choice.

Though I did not buy any games, I did do some research on the Kirby series after hearing Zero Two's Theme and Marx Theme. I started playing the Legend of Zelda and Pokemon series again after playing Brawl as well.

Seeing Marth and Ike in Brawl and getting to play all of a couple of minutes of Marth's game (I have the Japanese version of the game) was what got me into Fire Emblem. First I purchased Marth's game (Monshou no Nazo, Mystery of the Emblem) on the Wii Shopping Network.
And... I liked it so much that I got Ike's games, too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) I liked both of Ike's games, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, so much I got both the Japanese AND English versions of them. And they are now among my favourite GC and Wii games. ^^ |

I agree whole heartedly with what Marie just said. A few years after playing Melee I saw the first Fire Emblem (In English) in a store, bought it, fell in love with it, made a forum about it. And have now beaten every game (Cept Thraki D: I'm working on it.). It is my favorite series of all time now.
My favorite is definitely Fuuin No Tsurugi, Roys game. Edit: Turns out I also completely agree with Lind. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) |

I already beat that. That was a good day (The day I learned how to patch (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) )
I played all day when I got it. I just haven't had time for Thracia. (And I technically never played the first one, but I played Monshou no Nazo's book 1, and SD for the DS. That counts, right?) |

I do need to get around to replaying Thracia776. It was my first one and yet I've yet to get around to completing it in a language I actually understand. Probably because now I'm crazy perfectionist and (since I have the option) refuse to kill anyone and just capture and release. Like fish.

I'm a bit motivated to play now too. I just finished playing Fuuin no Tsurugi a week ago (For the third time. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) . I also did the hack where you play as Idoun. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) )
But yeah. Thracia was cool and all. However when I first played it in English I had JUST finished Seisen no Keifu. And wasn't really motivated to play yet ANOTHER FE game. After a big one like Seisen no Keifu. Fuuin No Tsurugi was the exception to that though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) |

I kinda am really hoping for it to be released in English for the GBA. But that won't be happening any time soon. If we Do get one it will probably be for the DS. Which is okay, I guess.
Am I the only one who also really wants a game where you can play AS the eight heroes? Like Brammimond, Hartmut, and Elimine? |

My brother mentioned something to me about a crossover game in development that focuses on a lot of the supporting characters. Probably just a silly rumor, though I think it would be pretty sweet if they made a game utilizing Motion Plus and played like the Sports Resort Swordplay Showdown.

Oh, I have Seisen no Keifu, too (downloaded it from the Wii Shopping Network; yay for the Japanese one having FE games!) but I have never really played it. Got too involved with PoR instead. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) And now I've cleared it (PoR) about 3 or 4 times, and RD about 10 times, woo... (Always on easy or normal mode.)
The English version of RD is so much easier than the Japanese version. I was greatly startled by the differences when I played the English one for the first time. I should give Seisen a try. Thracia776 is available for download, too. I'll probably get it sooner or later. Speaking of downloading games, I should get Makiba no Mise, too. Ehehe. So much to download... So much time to waste... ^^;;;;; |

The Snes and the GC ones are fun and good. But the FE6 engine games for the GBA are my favorites, hands down.
To me, it goes. 1.GBA FE 2.Snes FE 3.Wii FE 4.DS FE 5.GC FE (And I never played the NES ones.) |

I liked playing as Zelda, and I bought one of the Zelda games, and I was dissapointed to see she wasn't even playable.
