QUOTE(Saffy @ Apr 7 2007, 07:39 PM) I have to agree with Ryuujin. Eternia is easily one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Erh, I have to disagree. Eternia bored the ''puppy doodoo'' out of me. But that is off topic. STAY ON TOPIC!. :D |

It bored you since you are boring, so you're cancelling eachother out.

QUOTE(Ryuujin @ Apr 7 2007, 11:17 PM) It bored you since you are boring, so you're cancelling eachother out. I'll explain to you why that doesn't make sense. =/ If we were cancelling each other out, the boring feeling would be cancelled. I would not be bored. The game would not be boring. However, I continue to think it's boring. Therefore your theory does not make sense. Don't pretend to be smart, you have to BE smart. =P |

I personally don't care about storyline in harvest moon games, in the end, it's all about one thing... the cows of course!
I'm kind of tired of the goddess going emo. :o |

To add to the Tales discussion: I liked Eternia more than Symphonia. Ofcourse, it had Valkyrie in it, so I'm biased. Whatever.
On topic though, does anyone think they can dig up any mythology that has some kinda link to farms/farmers? I'm sorta at a loss at where to begin, aside from paging through Wikipedia's mythical creatures thing at random... |

Mythology that links directly to farmers farms?
... Good luck with that. Not that there isn't--I'd have to do research. I mean the best I can think of is like, the goddesses in different cultures (Greece and stuff) that link to "good harvest" and stuff. Back when farming was something that EVERYONE did, before the industrial revolution and the like... |

I dunno. It's just farming. Does it really need a complex storyline? If it had one, wouldn't it take away from the fact that... It's just farming? D: |

That is true, but at least it was an interesting idea. Though it does seem that MI is changing the story line around a bit in the next few games.

People need to stop copying off of each other and make their games their own dang way, stop being babies and think. That's what I think they should do.

I think you're missing the point. People CAN'T make a new idea, because it'll always be influenced by something else they've seen before whether they're trying for it to be or not. It's just the way things work.
The only way for a truly unique idea to blossom is from someone who wasn't exposed to anything else creative before, and even then, it's pretty likely that they'd make up something similar to something that's been done already. |

...basing ideas off of mythology dosen't make for a bad game, necessarily.
Borrowing ideas from others is what makes some stories STRONGER. If you want to stave away from cliche, then you really shouldn't play Harvest Moon, which are ... well it seems that they're milking the title for all it's worth...like alot of Nintendo titles. ... |

Yeah, pretty much. s'not a bad thing, 'cause they're still introducing new characters and towns. Granted they're basically rip offs of the old ones, but it's a start, right? They're KINDA new...

Kinda.
But sometimes people relate old characters to the new ones EVEN if they aren't the same. Like, Karen and Dia. Which ... the only thing about them that was similar was their stubborn demenour (spelling) and unwillingness to accept strangers. |

Yeah. It seems although Save the Homeland had noticeable shortcomings, it was still a step in the right direction.
