Since it seems everyone's so negative about the game, say some things you actually liked about it.

Personally, I thought the game was beautiful. If I remember it even won some award for graphics which is pretty impressive for a Harvest Moon game. I also loved the subtle changes in seasons such as it snowing a little towards the end of Fall. The fact that the game never forced you to sleep either was amazing, since the days actually were joined and you could literally stay up for days. Something I enjoyed in theory but couldn't exactly bother to do (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

The animals were so realistic I lost my breath when I got my first cow. And also the fact that you couldn't get sick from the rain was awesome. I remember in STH if I ran around long enough, I'd be yellow and icky. And of course the child development was touching and life-like. The graphics were also breathtaking and I often stood in the middle of nowhere in Z mode just to look around.

Oh gosh, the graphics were something to remember! So real, and so nice. Very good. But the real awe I got was in chapter 3. I saw that your son grew, unlike the others. You could interact with him too. I thought he stopped there, but he kept going to adult. I was very suprised by this. AWL is one of my favorites.

Yeah, if anything the environments were really nice and well made. It was easy to just sit around, doing nothing. Too bad that's probably what you'll end up doing ALOT.

I never thought anyone would ever make a topic about this, now I get to rant on my favorite three HM's! (AWL, AnWL, and O!Wl)

First of all, like everyone has stated, the graphics are just stunning! I could find myself, when following (stalking) Nami, when she were to go up to the Villa, when she would stop on the paved hill, I would just stand there in Z mode looking up at the beautiful cherry blossom trees in spring, waiting for her to leave (or go to the bar,for her second Heart Event).

I loved how the characters weren't limited like in other HM games. Like in the Mineral town games, the characters could always be found in a certain area at a specific time. At least in Mineral Town (atleast FOMT and MFoMT). In MM, they would just stand there, and maybe walk around a little bit, but wouldn't move to a new location until you went inside or something, that was my real turndown to MM. But in the WL series, the characters didn't have a set schedule, which was a real turn on to this game. I remeber Nami would take the wierdest route just to get back to the Inn, she would go to Cody's, then to the Turtle Pond, to Gustafa's, then she would walk under a tree, and stand there for about 2 game hours, before heading to the inn.

I loved how you could get a goat in these games, infact these were the ONLY games with the goat in them. These were also the first games to include the, now famous, black cat. If I remember correctly, these were also the only games to give you the blue feather for free. That was something else to look foward too.

The events in these games were so life like. I remember in AnWL, how on the first day of spring in every chapter, up until chapter 4, Muffy would be on the bridge waiting to tell you about her latest break-up with a boyrfriend (one of them was even married (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaeyes.gif) ). Until finally in Chapter 4, Griffen cam and told her that he loved her (somewhat). And I remember Rock's second Heart event in AnWL, how he came to your farm and had a little race with your dog, (who he calls crusher (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaeyes.gif) ?) of course the the dog one, although Rock lies about it (lol).

The seasonal changes were oh so beautiful, in Spring there were Cherry Blossom trees, and if I remember correctly, sometimes you could see them falling (or am I getting it mixed up with IL?).

The Ocean was so peaceful, I remember on days I had nothing to do, I would just go to the beach and stand there looking at the water. If you press Z while standing on the beach, you can even see the Island you can purchase in SS (without the house of course.)

There I'm done with my ranting! If you read all of that, the pat yourself on the back! Congradulations!

AWL was actually the second HM game I've ever played, and it's still one of my favorites. Sure, it got repetitive, but it had so much depth compared to FoMT, my first HM game, that I couldn't stop playing. Each of the bachelorettes had their own stories and problems and their personalities seemed so real compared to FoMT. Probably my favorite part of the game was the child-raising feature -- I love how you can shape the kid's life just like you can do in real life, not by forcing but by simply influencing them in the smallest ways. Talking with the kid never ceases to amuse me. It was a very beautiful game, and I loved going to the spring because of the glowing flowers (though they were a bit strange) and the beautiful scenery. The ocean's view can't be missed either. If I get up early enough, I try my hardest to catch the sunrise. The night sky was just as pretty, with the different colored stars. It was also nice how you and the people around you grew older as the years passed.

In short, I really don't see how so many people can overlook this game.

Oh, and the ducks were a nice bonus too.

Because it's ridiculously long; the days are too slow; and, there's barely anything to do.

Yeah, its one of my favourite Harvest Moon games too except it is exteremely long even in the girl version. The best thing was watching your family grow up and the villagers around you. If it had more interactive elements it would have been so much more better off for the game. Other wise it was simply "beautiful".

If they combined this with magical melody, like the sons, you, and people growing up. It would be the ultimate game ever.

Uh, HMDS? You have to collect stuff and your son ages, but I know it's not quite what you mean. HMDS has a totally different mood and feel than AWL and MM.
HMWii is pretty much the love child of AWL and MM (and HM64). The graphics are a mix of the two, rival children grow, your child can help you on the farm, all returning animals, and you have to save the Goddess.
I don't think you can ever have two very different plots mix perfectly. MM is all about running around in a chibi environment collecting notes for doing various things while AWL is about living a peaceful, quiet life in a beautiful valley.
Everyone has pretty much said what I like about the games, but I guess I can repeat.
1) The beauty of the Valley. Besides it just looking absolutely gorgeous upon first look, there's so many subtle details like the stars and the seasons slowly turning. I'd love to look up at the clouds and predict for myself. :D

2) Z button camera. I had so much fun with this thing checking everything out.

3) Some of the animals. The ducks and goats were great additions. I liked the whole not/fertilized eggs. It worked for a game like this. I also liked the horse (even though he always hated me) because this was a first to be able to ride it pretty much anywhere.

4) The characters. Thank goodness they weren't all stereotypical bimbos. A lot of them were unique and had great backstories. Hobo? White-furred creature? Hippie? A steel artisan? A crazy scientist? A+++ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I can't really comment on the child because I was never able to make it past chapter 2. .___.

I just absolutely loved how a lot of the characters aged, including yourself. In the HM64 days, I remember that I had a dream where I was playing HM64 for a long time and "Jack" grew into an old man. He ended up dying at the end and then came back as a ghost!! When AWL came out, I was like, "This is like a dream come true... literally!" It was sooo similar to my dream.

I also loved how the cows, chickens, and ducks came in different sexes. It really made it seem more like a real farm. I don't know about you, but the past games where you could throw any egg from a coop full of hens into the incubator always freaked me out a little.

Aww.
I just remember my little child and how he coud grow up, as you grew old with your lifetime love...
And I loved waking up early just to stand by the exit of town to watch the sunrise...
And staying up late to watch the stars on the beach...
I loved the graphics altogether. :D

I loved how realistic the game was. I just remember fishing while it was raining one day. I started listening to the rain..pitterpatter...and it was just like a lullabye almost. I felt like I was actually in the rain, I couldn't even feel the controller! It was like a dream... -.-

peace and serenity....-.-

Well AWL was my first Harvest Moon game I ever bought.
I liked (and still like) the graphics of the game, it's amazing.
The characters have a personality.
It actually feels that life is passing by, with your kid growing up and all. Also when people move in from what I remember.
Animals were awesome. Many animals (cow, chicken, DUCKS!!!, Goat, Bull, Horse, Sheep, etc.)
The season change.
Each Year (well actually first 3 years) you house looked different.

It was my very first HM game and I love it.
It had a special mood to it, it was peaceful and it felt real. I loved walking through the tree covered pathways, I felt like I was there.
It is one of my favorite HM games.

It's the most real HM ever. The graphics looked amazing for the GC. I liked the way the weather worked: weather would happen as it happened and wasn't on a day to day basis. It could be sunny one minute and rainy the next.

The ocean view was beautiful, and so was the walkway from the farm to the Harvest Sprite tree. And I liked the way you, along with everyone else in the village, grew older.
