I'm going to be quoting and posting pros and cons from members on different forums, who have played the game.
This will help people get a feel for the game and I thought it had been a long time since someone even talked about this game on the forums. First quote is from a member on Ushi no Tane. QUOTE Pros: - nice-looking characters - alpaca as farm animals - Konohana is very beautiful japanese-style village - nice music theme - plot - more wild animals to befriend - making money is easy - different looking horses and pets (cats, dogs) - new crops and flowers - Alisa as a marriageable girl (!) - you can catch fishies with your bare hands - some bachelor/ettes propose to you Cons (be ready, the list is HUGE): - characters repeat the same lines over and over again - the villagers are kinda boring if you ask me - the graphic is way too bubbly - the festivals suck - you walk to the place on the top of the mountain, you cannot speak to people who are there, you see a mini cut-scene and that is absolutely all. I liked only the Music Festival and Fish Catching Festival. The rest sucked. The cooking festivals get boring after a while. - the dates (you can date bachelor/ettes) are nothing special. Forget about as great dates as you had in RF2/3 - requests are darn annoying. First they are fun to do but they get boring very quickly. You get too many of them in one time, you have only few days for doing them and the villagers usually ask you for bringing something to them. No super duper cool requests like we had in RF2/3 - during rainy/stormy days the shops are closed >:/ - the stuff sold in shops are random - your house after uprgrading is ugly like a « Cow Poopoo » made by the ugliest cow. I almost vomited when I saw my dearly house - marriage life is dull. Your wife/husband doesn't sleep at all and you MUST sleep with your kid at the same bed AGAIN - the rivals won't marry - Bluebell is the ugliest HM town I have ever seen! It is way too small and very random. |

I agree with the pros, but all/most of his/her cons are purely opinion and not necessarily bad things in the game.
- characters repeat the same lines over and over again Standard Harvest Moon. If you want a game where characters don't repeat lines over and over, don't play Harvest Moon at all. - the villagers are kinda boring if you ask me That's a matter of opinion. And if you want mine, all Harvest Moon characters are boring. Period. - the graphic is way too bubbly The graphics in this game are no more "bubbly" than they are in any other HM game for DS. If you've played Island of Happiness, Welcome to the Wind Bazaar, and others then you will see that these graphics carry on the same feel, though Twin Villages' graphics are just a tad bit nicer, especially the scenery. - the festivals suck - you walk to the place on the top of the mountain, you cannot speak to people who are there, you see a mini cut-scene and that is absolutely all. I liked only the Music Festival and Fish Catching Festival. The rest sucked. The cooking festivals get boring after a while. While it is certainly true that the festivals aren't very interactive, they're not nearly as bad as the festivals in other games. Also, if you're an avid player of Harvest Moon, ALL festivals get boring after a while. That's just how it is. - the dates (you can date bachelor/ettes) are nothing special. Forget about as great dates as you had in RF2/3 Again with this just being an opinion, not a genuine problem with the game itself. Whether they're "nothing special" or not is purely up to you to decide. I, for one, enjoyed them for what they were. - requests are darn annoying. First they are fun to do but they get boring very quickly. You get too many of them in one time, you have only few days for doing them and the villagers usually ask you for bringing something to them. No super duper cool requests like we had in RF2/3 I found the requests to be extremely easy to complete in the time allotted. Really, it just depends on how much time you waste doing other things and whether you consider them a priority or not. - during rainy/stormy days the shops are closed >:/ Yeah. That's a problem. It's like Rick's Shop in HM64 all over again. B| - the stuff sold in shops are random This can be a pain if you're looking for something specific, but otherwise I found it kind of nice. - your house after uprgrading is ugly like a « Cow Poopoo » made by the ugliest cow. I almost vomited when I saw my dearly house Dude. This should not be considered a con. It has no effect on the gameplay whatsoever. Seriously. It's one little pixel image. - marriage life is dull. Your wife/husband doesn't sleep at all and you MUST sleep with your kid at the same bed AGAIN This has been a recurring problem in Harvest Moon games since the beginning of time. If you're not used to the dull-ness of married life by now, you probably need to start playing another series. However, your kid sleeping with you is a bit annoying. They should've added a baby bed. It doesn't really affect gameplay, though. - the rivals won't marry Not something we haven't seen before in multiple Harvest Moon games, but it is a bit of a disappointment. I would've liked to see them get married myself. - Bluebell is the ugliest HM town I have ever seen! It is way too small and very random. .......I thought Bluebell was beautiful. It's an adorable little European-style town, and it's really not that much smaller than Konohana. There's also nothing random about it. You walk in, the Church is on the right and the shipping bin on the left, then you go north to find Ashe's house on the left and Rasberry's house on the right... North of that is this adorable little square that leads to the rest of the village. On the top left is Aileen's house, top center is Town Hall/The Mayor's House, and top right is where Lia and Kamil live. Kamil opens up his flower shop just to the left of his house. Despite this, I wouldn't consider an opinion based on physical appearance of one of the two towns you can live in a con. Opinions on physical appearance are purely up to the person playing the game. They don't need to be listed as a "con". Really though, Twin Villages is a fun game. When it comes to Harvest Moon, you're generally in it for the gameplay, not the story/characters, and in that respect Twin Villages delivers. If you're the kind of person who gets hung up on the bachelor/ettes and characters and the "plot", then you'll probably enjoy this game about as much as you've enjoyed any other Harvest Moon game. Though there are some interesting new features in Twin Villages, it doesn't bring a whole new dimension to the series. It's a good, solid Harvest Moon, but it's not a pit of innovation. Now, whether that's a good thing or not is entirely up to you. |

I have to admit that the person was just ranting on most of their cons.
Second quote is also from a member on Ushi no Tane. QUOTE PROS:
- Irrigation system is neat - Upgrading by quest system is annoying but will end up making the game much more satisfying than Wind Bazaar - Outfits - Quest system gets boring but is neat because it lets you get items by ways other than growing, cooking, or buying them; you have control over what quality level they will be, too - There is a point to the bug-catching! (Quests, and sometimes the rewards are quite good) CONS: - Slow progress on farm upgrades and it's not intuitive which ones you need to do to unlock future ones - Increasing crop quality is a nightmare - Moving is a hassle... Town halls are closed on random days such as Mondays so you have to plan around that - Wildflowers are rare in this game. - Not enough storage! - Can only keep two cats - Alpacas have short lifespan |

I agree with Mizuki. Most of those cons from the first person were all just opinions or normal Harvest Moon shortcomings. Also if you want to compare Harvest Moon games that's fine, but don't go comparing Harvest Moon to Rune Factory. They are different.
I am definitely going to get the game when it comes out in English. I am not looking forward to a smaller amount of Storage though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) . |
