I'm not aware of all the topics made so sorry if this has already been discussed buuut...

I'm interested to see what harvest moon game y'all just can't stop going back too! Personally I'd say ToT since it was my first HM game. I've probably run through it like 4 times. It just gives me that sense of nostalgia, back to when life was a lot easier and I could get away with being lazy (I hate growing up!) (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Things that make you go back and play could be certain characters, or the plot, or the game mechanics.

What makes that particular game special to you? :3

Probably Animal Parade, since I made several videos from that game. I've married almost all the marriage candidates at some point.

I often pick up a game after not playing it for a couple of years, so... I've no idea how many playthroughs I've done of each game.

Come to think of it, I've gotten each ending on Save the Homeland more than once, so... That may be my most often-played-through game? I really don't know, heh.

My favourites are Save the Homeland and Grand Bazaar (which I've played through at least 5 times). Each game really has its own charm though. (And it helps that I'm a bit OCD. =P)

I can't even remember what my first game was. xx; It was either one of the Gameboy games, HM64, or the original SNES game. I rented them very close together, but ended up buying only HM64 (because it was the only one I could find for sale). So HM64 has always been special to me.

Toss-up between GBC2 and 64. I know for a fact that GBC2 has the most years on a single save file, since I went like, well above 10, and I've done a few separate saves of it as well. 64 I usually only play to the credits unless I'm waiting for something to happen (child being born, certain events) but I've played a lot more files to get to know just about every character pretty well. Probably not a single event I haven't seen on that sucker.

GBC2 was the absolute first I owned, which I remember playing a lot on Summer trips at the time. Probably why I had a ridiculous amount of years on it in spite of there being relatively limited amounts of events and stuff compared to console HMs or even just GBC3. I still really wish they'd bring that cast and less focus on mysticism back to the games, just because they didn't ever have anywhere to be truly fleshed out like the console counterparts. Well. Except for Mary. Mary was all over '64 and BtN and all those other games.

Definitely 64 in my case. I think I've started several dozen files and gotten to the credits of at least 25-30 of those. There probably isn't anything in the game that I haven't seen at least once either.

I played Back to Nature for about four to five years, maybe six in game. It's my first and most nostalgic. :)

Nice. These games have lots of charm. Some people say the older games were better in that aspect and I've watched enough playthroughs to see why they'd say so.

The characters from 64 are really cute and I like how they set up the challenge of getting a "perfect game".

Speaking of challenges one thing that keeps me coming back to these games are the challenge of completing item lists. Every time I start a new HM game, I devote my first playthrough to trying to complete all the item/foraging/cooking/etc. lists. If that means staying up late, in game, to get a special fish that only appears at 1:00am, so be it.

Looking at a particular HM game, or any game for that matter, and saying I've completed it 100% gives me a sense of satisfaction. lol I'm starting to sound lame. But I can't be the only one right? ... >.>

No on the contrary I admire you. O_O

I can't continue most of the time after I get married.

Which leads to...

the most played Harvest Moon game I tend to go back to is Harvest Moon DS. I'm not sure why actually. (Must be Nami) Before the DS I'd always go back to Mineral Town to attempt to get that island getaway but could never do that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I keep telling myself that now that I'm much older I should beat AWL or start over and beat it. I think I can take the ending now.

I also like to complete the game 100% (or as close to that as I can get), but rarely do so on my first file. I use the first file to get used to the game, and after a while save over it and start again, learning from the mistakes I made the first time. ('Cause, usually, I make a lot of dumb mistakes the first time around!)

I like to try and get %100 also, but I may not be so inclined to do so on a first round through the game. It's more fun that way, getting everything in the game in my opinion. However, in some cases, if the main story line is finished and no more new events really occur and I married late in the plot (like with some characters you have to), I'm always less motivated to continue and may not raise my child.

Aww shucks. Well, I'm usually really into the game up until I get married. Waiting for the child to grow is the hard part for me... One playthrough I sold all my animals and did the wake up and go to bed right after thing until my kid grew up. :P

Getting that 100% on my first file became a habit. After getting a good feel of the game I soon find myself on wiki pages and forums. 2nd playthorough and onward are my play-however-you-want files. My first playthorough of Animal Parade was brutal because of the leveling of all my tools to goddess status. Trying to get that hoe to level 5 made we want chuck my game out of the window several times. Also finding rare ores that DON'T become junk ores felt like a 1/100 chance. Ugh all those hours I spent in the mines D:

AP is one of those game I'm proud of. Never again shall I strive for that goddess hoe *throws confetti* But I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who gets satisfaction from fully competed games ^.^

My brother called me "Korean" for finishing stuff 100%.
"It's perfectly normal!"
"EXTREME GAMER."
"I'm not Korean!"
D:

I wish there were more events that involved your child. That would be nice. I liked how A Wonderful Life revolved around that.

Haha Korean :P I'd say dedication.

But if I'm going to spend money on a game why not get the most out of it? :D
Well unless I completely hate it.

I WISH the newer games had child events like in A Wonderful Life. I thought that was a brilliant idea. I want my kid to become a teenager and develop their own interests and stuff.

My first Harvest Moon game, as well as the one I've gotten farthest in is definitely Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. I remember I got that game as a present for doing really well in school way back in... Pffshhh...2004? Due to pure nostalgia and dumb sentimental reasons, the Forget-Me-Not games are definitely my favorite. :)

I just started new files in AWL as well as ANWL. Haha.
