Alright, this is a pretty general topic. But whatever. Tell me what genre you like to read, what you've read in the past and liked, school reading, and here's one I've been curious about... How do you treat your books?
Do you hoard books on your bookshelves? When you pause at a place in a book, do you lay it flat open against the table, or do you bookmark it? Do you dog ear your books? Is wear and tear in a book a sign of love, or a sign that someone should take better care of their books? And, just for Crystal: Ebooks vs. real books AND discuss audio books here as well. Maybe you can convert a few, Crystal. ;D |

I respect my books. I mean, during the school year they sit in the bottom of my book bag, so the corners may get a little rough, but otherwise they don't look that bad. I either keep my books on my shelves, or just place them on my dresser. I used to use bookmarks, but now I just usually dog ear the page I'm on. I guess wear and tear could be good or bad. That either means you're reading the book so much. or it means you're just demonic and destroy books. When it comes to eReaders, I think they are really cool with some things, but as long as regular books are around, I'm going to stick with those.

AND discuss audio books here as well. Maybe you can convert a few, Crystal. ;D Oh yeah. I'm getting to some people. Yes I am~ ;D Anyways, my mom taught me to respect books to the highest degree. So I tend to have fits when I see books with writing or books with dogeared pages. 0_o But a fair few of my books have cracked spines and/or loose pages from the immense number of times I've opened them. While it depressing me to see their condition, it makes me happy to know how often I've read them. <3 Generally, if I'm only gonna be gone a moment, I'll just lay a book down open. If it's gonna be more than a moment, I always use a bookmark, even if it's just a tissue or something. I never, ever dogear a page to mark it. Never. Real books forever. <3 I like books that I can experience with all (or almost all) of my senses. Sight, touch, smell, sound . . . So much to love about books printed with paper and ink. Oh, so much book-related stuff to talk about~ |

I keep my first editions very carefully. I dogear and highlight and write in my textbooks though.
for when I pause, it depends whether I'm going to pick it up within 3 minutes. if I am going to pick it up, I place it face down (unless it's a first edition, then I always bookmark). if I know it'll be more than that, I'll bookmark. I have a lot of books, but my sister's father-in-law haas an entire room full of books and more in boxes that are on the floor. I've been told that his wife has forbidden him from buying more books for a while. |

Crystal has gotten to me with her audiobooks. But audiobooks are awesome! I enjoy the voice acting and it is very much like your book has come to life, yet the imaginative part of reading a book isn't gone. It's like a movie talking word-for-word from the book, but with your own images.
I just started reading a series, too. I feel embarrassed being an English minor and hardly ever reading for fun (but I LOVE to read, just don't know what or don't motivate myself to make time). The book is A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones. I'm sure some of you guys have heard of it or even read it yourselves (it came out in like 1995, but the most recent entry was released this July). The book is pretty darn good so far. I'm hoping for good things. I love fantasy/sci-fi books. |

Oh geez. It'd be easier for me if I say series rather than books. ;>
I like the Genius series by Catherine Jinks. Evil Genius, Genius Squad, and Genius Wars. And I've been fangirling over the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld for a while. Currently, Leviathan and Behemoth are out, but this September the third book Goliath is coming out. <3 The Leviathan series is actually written by the same man that did Uglies, but it's not like that series at all. In fact, if you couldn't stand Uglies, you more than likely will enjoy Leviathan. ;> Usually people that like the anime Axis Powers Hetalia enjoy it. I don't know why, but they do. :| |

Wear and tear, for me, means love. I have plenty of books on my shelf that look as neat as the day they were bought, which basically means, I either wasn't interested enough to finish reading it, or wasn't interested enough to read it again. Books I do have that are pretty worn, like the Percy Jackson series, for example, means that I've read them several times, because I quite liked them.
I don't necessarily dog ear my pages when I get up to leave, but that doesn't mean I bookmark, either. I'm generally too lazy to find a bookmark in the first place. When I dog ear my pages, it's usually because I either really liked the scene, or because there was a super funny quote that I'll share with my mom and Deceit when I get a chance later. I tend to place the book face down if I'm getting up to go do something real fast, and if I know I'm coming back soon. But if the bell rings for classes to change or it's time for dinner, I just glance at the page number and shut the book. I'll find it again later. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) I'm fine with audiobooks, but they tend to make me sleepy, or I'm easily distracted by something else, so it's probably not the best thing in the world for me. I keep my books on my bookshelf, but it's a small one, and I'm running out of room there. My books are in alphabetical order, just so I can find them easily. My favorite book series is Percy Jackson, and my favorite book is Fire by Kristen Cashore, followed by the sequel (actually, Fire is the prequel and published after) Graceling. I've read those two a ton. |

I have too many favorite books/series to list. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/weirdsmile.gif) Maybe I'll save them up and post at intervals.
Anyway, I came because I just checked a new audiobook out of the library! =3 It's Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid. Now, I liked the book a bunch when I read it. Rick Riordan has this great sarcastic sense of humor that I love. I've always been into Egyptian mythology, so a book that puts it into such a modern setting that's super easy to follow and funny is great. I also enjoyed the subtle little hints in the book to his other series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I can't wait to try the audiobook, because they actually got two people to read it! A guy and girl to go with the switching narrative in the book. Furthermore, the book is written like a transcript of an audio recording, so this should go really great as an audiobook. I'm really hoping it's better than the Percy Jackson audiobooks, because those weren't very good at all. The guy they got to read then couldn't decide how to pronounce the Greek words, had little vocal range, and hard time with emotions and accents. Here's hoping The Red Pyramid has better voices! |

I didn't finish The Throne of Fire. :[ Maybe getting an audio book would help me finish it... It's cool that they got a guy and a girl to do Sadie and Carter's voice, though! |

I haven't even started Throne of Fire yet, actually. I keep meaning to, and then I don't. If this audiobook is good, I'll probably get all into the story again and pick it up right away. That's happened before . . .
An audiobook might help indeed, Twi. I'll let you know if the voice in The Red Pyramid are any good, since they're most likely going to do the next book, too. It's not unusual for a series to have different books read by different people, though. I convinced Oscar to try an audiobook, it's only a matter of time before I get to more . . . >_> <_< *innocent* |

I just requested the audio book for A Little Princess at my library. :3
I got the book from there today. I'll read a bit of it, but I'm more or less waiting for the audiobook to arrive. <3 Someone named Virginia Leishman narrates it. Edit: Listened to a sample of her voice. I cannot wait until the audiobook arrives. <3 |

The movie will do quite well, in my opinion, as Suzanne Collins herself has a say in the cast and script, or so I've heard. :P
