The great tree of the island has withered away, and with it the Goddess has vanished. It is up to you to revitalize the island, the Goddess, and return the massive tree back to it's original status.
Doesn't this sound a lot like Tales of Symphonia? It's a summary of the ''Tree of Peace'' story however, very similar... ... Just wanted to point that out! XP Still more original than ''my granpa died...so...I'll go out of my way, forget my previous way of life and run his farm for no apparent important reason'' though. |

Which plot? The ' My grandpa has died' one or the 'magical tree' one?

I agree! :P It was kinda of in Zelda,too.....where the Deku tree was dying. And Link had to go and kill the evil, accept in the end it wasn't worth it cause it died. x_X |

Every plot's been pretty much done before in some way, so you'll probably just have to live with the idea that you've plain seen it before. I didn't really mind the "Aw..gramps died...Hey, cool! I get his stuff! Wait..his stuff SUCKS. I'm gonna make it better because I don't have anything else to do!" plot myself.

Yeah, though it was used quite a few times, it still worked. However, coming up with new plots for Harvest Moon is still a good idea.

:3...
You do know that a big part Tales of Symphonia's plotline is based off of Norse Mythology, right? Here are some examples: Ymir: The first giant ever. Odin: God of magic, poetry, death and the gallows. Host of Asgard. One of three gods who created the universe after slaying Ymir. "Norse Mythology also has a very heavy influence on video games in the "Tales Of..." series, by Namco. These influences range from borrowing of names for the use of characters or locations, to basing the plot off of a part of Norse Mythology, such as the two worlds in Tales of Symphonia." The biggest part, being the tree of life. "Yggdrasil." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil Be enlightened. And if you're familiar with Ragnarok Online, it ALSO borrows a TON of concepts from the mythology. |

Right. Every plot is based off of everything else. It just IS. (Not sarcastic)

Atleast basing it off of FARMING myths would make some sense.

Originality is over-rated!
But what I meant was that every story has to contain some unoriginal elements, modified. I was speaking broadly. |

I don't see why not. They'd probably take some digging to uncover, but, I can bet ya there's some mythical creatures/things that have a habit of being paired up with farms when they're mentioned.

^Irrelevant.
Maybe they were sick of using the harvest goddess and the sprites. So the installed the tree of life thing instead. |

I have to agree with Ryuujin. Eternia is easily one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
