This is fantastic, reminds me of the simple HM days. Excellent find, very nostalgic! Anymore to share?

Plenty more to come. I just have to scan and re-scan a lot because I'm trying to not bend up my book too badly and still get a good capture.

Thank you so so much for posting these! My favorites are probably the first few BTN pics. The textured paper looks really neat, and I like all the detail. The wedding pictures are really cool too- it must've been fun to decide what gown and veil would fit each bride's personality. The ones about 3/4 of the way down the page- is that watercolor? Whatever it is, the looser style's pretty nice looking also. But poor Mary gets an even blander dress than usual!
*sigh* I really like Igusa Matsuyama's style; I wished they had him for Animal Parade. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasad.gif) A question for anyone who's good with Japanese: I tried to translate some of the HM64 people's names by Googling katakana and hiragana charts, but I was only able to figure out some of the characters. For example, the elderly tourist guy... my best guess is "Fudu", but I'm not sure about either character translation. Besides, I wouldn't even know if that was the character's name or "title"- I.e. "Potion Shop Dealer". Would someone care to help? I've wanted to know the minor characters' names for years! |

I can read Katakana. ^-^
Hiragana, too. I learnt that first. I barely know any kanji though. :( Sometimes I confused shi/n/tsu/so though, since they're all so similar. >.< Left to right: Old red man - Doka Shady salesman - Samieru/Samuel Bald kid - Kenta Blonde kid - Jun Carpenter (I think) - Kaaya Old man - Fuku Old woman - Tome Old lady bun - Yone Sweater jumper wrap sailor - Tarou Harvest Sprite - Koropokkuru I should add these to the wiki sometime. D: Feel free to ask for other translations. It gives me practice. |

Thank so so much, Charmy! :D I wonder how they would've Anglicized some of these names... maybe Terry for Tarou (I hated that guy, LOL!) and Kyle for Kaaya? But what would they have done with Jun, for example? Sigh... maybe someday they'll remake HM64 and then we'll know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasad.gif)
Heh... I'm glad Sweater Guy's name sounds (is?) Japanese and not an English name imported into Japanese- I was afraid he and his wife were supposed to be parodies of American tourists!! Okay, how about the pastor's name? People have claimed his name is Pastor Brown, but I don't know if that's just fanon or not. But then again, I've heard people claim Yone's name is Sydney and her husband Barley is Skinny, so.... And what's Gray's name here? Is it the Japanese word for gray, something that sounds like the English word Gray, or something else altogether, LOL? Are Ann and Mary/Maria's names similar to their Japanese ones? A long time ago, when I was looking for Japanese HM fanart, Google Translate gave Ann's name as Ran or Run, something like that. Thanks for your time! |

Okay, for HM64, the Japanese names are as follows:
Elli Mary Ran (which means Orchid) Popuri Karen Mayor Thomas Anna Harris Duke Sasha Gotz Kai Cliff Lilia Basil Chuu (the crazy butterfly guy) Ellen Jeff Dad/Dadd (this is Ann's dad) Gray Rick Zack Mei/May Gaaya (this is the midwife) Doga Kenta Yuu Saibara Brown (yes, this is the pastor's name) Gen-san (head carpenter) Itta (lesser carpenters) Megami-sama (Goddess) Korobokkuru (Harvest Sprites) Kappa Mugi (restaurant guy) Yone (restaurant lady) Greg Gourmet Man Mana Jan Kanoo/Canot (think Kanou, just spelled with a typical katakana extension) Samuel Fuku Tome Tarou The only characters missing from this artbook are the three girls who show up at festivals and the kissy-faced couple that shows up on your farm when you do something 'special'. For the most part, a lot of the names are exactly the same. The only ones they changed were the ones that sounded too stereotypically Japanese like 'Kenta' and 'Yuu'. A lot of the other characters that we were unaware of localized names for were never given names at all. |

Thanks so much, Mizuki! I really appreciate it! (Sorry it took me so long to reply, I haven't been feeling well lately. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalatounge.gif) )Funny how Doug's name in this game is just "Dad"! I wonder why both apprentice carpenters have the same name. Is it a title? One more question- has anybody here played the Japanese version of HM64? Do they refer to characters by their names or by their role- I.e. "the buyer", "the Potion Shop Dealer", etc?
