So, I want to know if its worth impregnating a barn animal over buying?
Also, how long will it take, and can they still produce products? I've only just got the game so not sure if I should impregnat my first and only cow in Spring Year 1 or wait to buy a second so I won't miss out on milk production. Help please! |

Well, I have never had a cow impregnated, because when I want a new cow, I prefer to buy a full-grown cow. Only full-grown cows give milk. It's more expensive to buy a new cow, but I'd rather spend the money than wait for the calf to be born and then grow up.
I don't know if pregnant cows give milk. =/ We'll have to wait for someone else to answer that! |

QUOTE You can't brush, milk, or give treats though. That applies to pregnant cows, so, you can't milk them, no. I guess it's more of a matter of whether you'd rather spend the money straight away and get low selling milk, or spend less money, befriend the calf while it's growing up then get better milk by that time because you've befriended it. I'd usually go for the calf option, but, I don't own this particular game myself. |

As your starting early and aiming for more profit I would buy a new cow over waiting. Personally and only if I was not pressed for time I would go for the calf option as it is the quickest way to get hearts. Depending on how many hearts your full grown cow has (the mama cow) the calf will be born with half those hearts. (Ex. Ten heart mama cow=5 heart calf) Something to consider in the future. ^^

Another thing to take into consideration is that if you want to unlock jersey cows early, you have to birth three cows on your farm. If you're the type of person who doesn't care all that much about their individual cows and will likely replace them with better breeds in the future, you might want to go ahead and both impregnate your first cow and buy a second one to keep you afloat with milk sales while that's going on.

Okay~ Thank you so much everyone for your input.
I choose to just impregnate her, and then have chickens for some income~ Save and just wait. So far I'm not low on money as I pretty much ship everything I get except for blueprint items. Which reminds me! I unlocked the multiplayer so now I'm working on finding friends to play with sometimes. Uhm, I wont have animals to bring for a season in game. Haha. Jersey cows sound awesome! Read up on it today, and was glad I choose to have little baby cows early rather than later when the jersey cows are unlocked. //grins. |

Yes! Chickens are the way to go. My friend purchased a calf once in ToT, and didn't realise she had to wait until she could milk it. I told her, "You always go with the chickens, first."
I'd join, but as I said, I don't own this game. Hope you find some buddies. ^^ |
