Good luck.

At least I got a response I heard a lot of people preferred this over ToT yet no one has come offering starter help

There's not much to it for starter help. Just about every avenue is profitable enough to get whatever you may be interested in, the only thing I can think of is I always farmed a LOT of tea. The tea you make with it is liked by a heckuva lot of people so it's easy to befriend with and it grows fast and is profitable to boot.

I would start befriending as many people as possible if you're going for the story. So many people do like tea as it was already stated. Use the second wii remote to increase friendships faster. Raise a lot of crops and fish for money. Getting some wood wouldn't hurt either since it's required for everything. Going to the island everyday can get expesive so I'd wait for a bit on that. Oh, and befriending people can open up quests so....save your trash x3

It should mention it in the manual. *looks it up* It's on the control page (pg1) at the bottom right corner.
