And suggestions, for those games where the names make the character dialogue that much more fun!

What are some you've tried, thought of trying, and/or will try next time you play any certain game?

I kind of want to name everyone "I" next time I play a Final Fantasy game (like VII or IX) that allows it, just so the characters can sound self-absorbed, or like house-elves.

But if I were to start my Ocarina of Time file over (and I refuse), I'd have named Link "Zelda" just for the first scene at the castle.

Also, if anyone here has the first Suikoden, name the hero "Bates". It makes Gremio's dialogue... saucy.

(Or, in Suikoden II, give the hero, your army, and your HQ all the same name for maximum lols in the long run. I'd say why, but I have no idea how to make spoiler tags here.)

And, I don't usually give my characters gag names, but last time when I just wanted to check around something quickly and had to name a character, I named her "Buttface".

Thanks! It... seems so obvious now, but I never do know with BBcode tags sometimes.

Anyway,

Spoiler:
In Suikoden II, I believe either your castle or your army's name eventually becomes the name of the COUNTRY. So... you can effectively be a total narcissist and name the entire operation, and the country, after yourself. And burn your best friend in the process.

I kind of wish I'd given Steiner a funny name back when I started my Final Fantasy IX playthrough, if only for the ATE called "Queen Brahne's Steiner".

Well. In Pokemon White I named all of my pokemon after Gundam characters. And then, in Twin Villages I named all of my animals negative adjectives like sad, lonely, jealous, and vindictive (all in Japanese). I also stumbled upon some rather odd censors in the game. Like, if I remember correctly, you can't name anything "strange".

Hm..... Otherwise.... I had an HM64 file where I named everyone after Detective Conan characters, and a Welcome to the Wind Bazaar file where I named everyone after Yu Yu Hakusho characters.

I don't usually name characters things that are derogatory like Assface, Douchemaster, and the like, but I did name one of my farms a while back the "chaos Farm". The character's name was normal, though.

In RPGs I tend to use the character's default names the first time through, but I'll do things like name them all after gemstones or Norse gods or even just name them random things for fun any subsequent times.

For most of the games I play, I name people regularly, nothing bad. Whenever I name someone for the Elder Scrolls, I run off to find a suitable name for the race I pick. For animals in HM games I name them simple things like Woola, Henny, and Moomoo.
With Sims I pick whatever comes first to my head if I don't really care, and if I just want to check something out quickly, I usually give the person a name like xawslkmwaet or just js.

Link's always named Link, and for names that don't really matter (like flash games I've been playing) I've recently taken to naming my person Marmalade. :d

For some reason I don't like doing the thing of pokemon, and naming your person "Master". :d

For Persona 3 & 4 I went with the names considered "canon" (Minato Arisato & Seta Souji; Seta is no longer canon, so I'll be using Yu Narukami for Golden). My only real problem was naming the female protag in the PSP version. She had two popular names, "Hamuko" (which is based on a prerelease screen shot where she was accidentally named "Male Protagonist"; "Hamuko" is apparently an alternate reading of that) and "Minako" (a female version of "Minato").

I also did research into the naming conventions for the races for Skyrim. I still messed it up. ^.^; Aparrently I didn't realise that "Ma'azusa" is a male khajiit name. My Argonian character is "City-Swimmer" after a female Argonian in Oblivion (she actually does swim in the city canals). I plan on using these character names for each Elder Scroll games I play (I'm not playing City-Swimmer in Oblivion though). It'll be like Ma'iq the Liar.

I name my Pokemon based on appearance or if I feel like they're a "name".
