So, today Natsume announced The Lost Valley, a new title for 3DS. However... something's amiss.

http://www.natsume.com/news/news_pdffiles/...LV_Announce.pdf

The press release boasts a lot of interesting things, but for the most part it sounds like a typical Harvest Moon... except there's no game that they're localizing. I can only assume that this may be a completely new title internally developed by Natsume themselves or co-developed with Toybox like Hometown Story was. So now we got the original series (Story of Seasons) and now Natsume isn't letting their strong trademark die by producing their own things that may be going head-to-head this year. With E3 just around the corner, I imagine a full reveal will be then.

Being able to customize your town into a Venice-like area sounds pretty amazing. You know, the thing is, if they do actually manage to do something like that and do it really well, it could be serious competition for the Bokujou Monogatari series. I'm sorry. I can't say 'Story of Seasons' with a straight face.

Of course, my feelings on the modern Harvest Moon games tend to vary depending on the plot of the game. I'm more of the "gimme a loose-knit plot with lots of freedom and lots of stuff to discover/have fun with" type than the " gimme a complex plot with lots of objectives" type. The characters being at least moderately interesting is also a big must for me. So... if they both come out around the same time, the one that'll win my vote will be the one that does both of the above.

(Though, Tsunagaru Daichi does already have one leg up on the new HM. ......It's got Licorice in it. That gives it brownie points.)

Wow. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaeyes.gif)

They certainly aren't holding back on the hype. They had me at "fully customizable world".

This is their tantrum at Marvelous for backstabbing them.

Honestly, if they seriously expect it to be ready to show at E3 and also hope to release it this year? They probably worked it out with Marvelous ages ago how things were going to happen.

Natsume Announces Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley For Nintendo 3DS [Update]

Xseed are publishing the next Harvest Moon game developed by Marvelous AQL, but Natsume still own the Harvest Moon name in North America… and they're putting it to use.

This morning, the publisher announced Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley
for release on the Nintendo 3DS. The game, Natsume say, will feature a
"three-dimensional setting" for the first time and will feature a "fully
customizable world," allowing players to customize their field in any
manner they see fit.

Two examples Natsume provide of this customization is that you can
either have a field of tulips like in Holland or a valley filled with
water like in Venice.

Natsume say that Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley will "innovate in a way that no Harvest Moon ever has". It's slated for release this year in North America.

Update: Regarding a European release, over Twitter, Natsume stated: "We can't discuss the EU release details *yet* but we have confidence it will make it to PAL territories."

Natsume Bringing Three Nintendo Titles To E3

Natsume may have lost Harvest Moon, but they're still bringing a few surprises to E3 this year. On their Facebook page, Natsume say they'll have three games for Nintendo platforms at E3 this year. These three titles will not include any Virtual Console games, although Natsume say they'll have some news on that front as well. They don't specify if the three games will be on 3DS or Wii U, although the tease sounds like it could be a mix of the two.

One of these games, announced this morning, is Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. We'll have to wait to find out what the other two are.

Aditionally, Natsume will also bring a new Reel Fishing game to Vita and information on this game will be shared in a week as well.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley Has Been In Development For A While

This morning, Natsume announced that they are working on their own Harvest Moon game for the Nintendo 3DS, titled Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. Since the announcement, there have been a bunch of questions about the game, and we got in touch with Natsume to get answers to the basic ones.

For starters, Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley has been in development since early 2013. Last year, Natsume opened a new office in Tokyo, Japan, which they said would expand their game development for both consoles and smartphones. It's this office that is developing the game.

Additionally, Graham Markay, Vice-President of Operations at Natsume, confirmed to Siliconera that Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada—who designed last year's Hometown Story—is not involved with the game. Of course, that doesn't mean Wada couldn't be working on other games in collaboration with Natsume.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley will be available this year for Nintendo 3DS. Siliconera will have more on the game at E3.

Wada NOT being involved is a surprise considering the relationship Natsume cultivated with him (and Toybox) over Hometown Story. Interesting to note that this will be the first major outing of an unproven dev team straight out of a totally new studio in Japan too. This can really go either way... hm...

I think it is really interesting that Natsume is trying to develop their own Harvest Moon games, and I really hope it's more reminiscent of the games from the PS2/Gamecube era! I've always gotten a little bored when playing the portable Harvest Moon versions, so I'm hoping they add a bit more liveliness to the games.

I definitely agree, I've been waiting for a Harvest Moon game to be developed for the Wii U. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasmile.gif)

I'll be getting Story of Seasons first. Natsume is throwing a tantrum or something.

The new "Harvest Moon" could be great. But seeing Natsume's internally developed "games", I see it being a train wreck.

Why? They've developed good games before. Wild Guns, Pocky & Rocky, Gundam Wing: Endless Duel... they even did a Kirby game.

And I'm talking more current titles.

Well, the Kirby game was on the DS. That's... relatively recent. As noted, past history is kind of a sketchy thing to measure the new game on though. It sounds like the team developing is completely new, so the most we can hope for is that whoever made sure their old games were good before the company released them is still there quality checking.

I'll pray about it Darth. I'm just worries about US sales of the actual series since Natsume still owns the HM name.

A few days ago CeeCee also posted pictures of an adorable dog plushie that's apparently made to look like a dog you can get as a pet in The Lost Valley:
http://ceecee-natsume.tumblr.com/post/8812...fficial-natsume

It's so weird to see them starting their own version of the series. Dx I'd be happy to see it growing if I didn't feel that there might be a bad vibe between MarvelousAQL/XSeed and Natsume. Maybe it's just me and my paranoid tendencies, though.

It sounds like Natsume's been working on this for a while, so I hope TLV turns out to be a good game!

It would be awesome if HM's original producer, Yasuhiro Wada, was involved. Doubt that's likely, but...you never know.

I also find it a bit weird that Natsume is steering the series toward the mystical stuff again, while Story of Seasons/Tsunagaru Shintenchi doesn't have any of that. The goddess, witch, and sprites do appear in that game, but they play no role in the story whatsoever. Personally, I like it better without the magical stuff.

EDIT: Just want to say, The Lost Valley is one of the nominees for "Best of E3 2014"! (In the RPG category.) SoS, meanwhile, got two nominations, though I'm not sure what they were for.

Cherubae posted some pictures onto her twitter from the E3 booth! Here are some links to the photos she took:
CeeCee from Natsume also shared pictures of the game's section of Natsume's E3 Brochure! You can look at those here:
Along with the E3 exclusive plush of the new dog with a blue bandana, SOTA Toys will be producing a RED version along with a chicken and reversible chick/egg set! Those can be found directly on the SOTA Toys Website:
It looks like Natsume is really trying to push this game! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasmile.gif)
