How do you guys pass the days by? It just seems to me like there's not a whole lot to do when you're not rearranging your storage and rucksack. There seem to be only so many things picked up off the ground that the villagers like, and getting heart levels seems to take forever.

I mean, I played all the way to summer on my girl file, but does the game pick up? It seems like a long, long wait for some things to happen (I guess it's part of why I'm not too fond of the handheld titles).

Well, I personally love this game. There really isn't a whole lot to do to waste your time, but once you get livestock and have several fields of crops growing, you can't seem to find enough time in the day to do it all. My guy file (my best file) is in early year three, and I find that I don't even leave my farm until 1 pm at the earliest most days. I actually have to plan in advance and cut out pretty much everything but watering/harvesting plants and feeding my animals/pets on bazaar days.

So yeah, it gets better once you fill out your farm a bit, but there really aren't very many extra activities. (There's fishing and bug catching if you're interested, though.) Twin Villages (A Tale of Two Towns) has a lot more in that respect.

I suppose once I get over my console phase, I'll give it a try. I did notice that I'd been watering my crops twice a day instead of letting them grow normally with fertilizer every day, which didn't give me much in the way of rank-related profits to work off of. SO maybe I can do that.

I was also a bit unnerved because it seemed to take forever just to get Angelo to a purple heart with liked gifts.

Well, you need to water your plants twice a day. Otherwise they'll take forever to grow. (You also add fertilizer, though it may not be entirely worth raising the star rank of anything outside of long-growing, single harvest crops like cabbage and cauliflower until you unlock the final windmill in fall.)

And yes, the purple heart always feels like the largest hurdle when wooing a candidate, but it's 10000FP per heart and there are six heart levels. In this game, liked gifts only give 150FP per gift, while loved gifts give 500FP each. Their favorite gift, on the other hand, gives 800FP. You can also increase the amount of FP that gifts give by gift wrapping them at the wrapping stall at the bazaar. That'll add 200FP to each gift. If you give them a gift on their birthday, it'll be worth 5x what it normally is. On top of that, the heart events give you 2-3kFP if you answer correctly. Each candidate has a black, purple, blue, and yellow heart event. All in all, there are plenty of ways to raise their heart level rather quickly, but it's not like some older games where you could practically cheat and have a character fall in love with you overnight.

Yeah, most of this is stuff I already know. It just seems like it's gonna drag for a bit. And I thought at least raising star rank for stuff would make a much better profit, but I guess not.

Oh no, it is worth raising the star rank, but it's worth even more once you can turn those crops into seeds (which isn't until late fall of your first year) since you can then save them until next year and start the process all over again, getting better quality crops each time.

I don't think I've ever actually used a seed maker yet in an HM game. Or rather, I don't think I've acquired them yet. I could be wrong.

I hope you can at least turn one crop into multiple seeds. I do like to save stuff for cooking.

You can make seeds, and other items, in the windmills. And also... snowboarding in Winter.
