I love the Harvest Moon games, but I've never really played any of the RF games. I've seen art and screenshots ( I LOVE the clothes and style), but I still have almost no idea what the games are about. I've heard that its basically Harvest Moon and Final Fantasy mixed together. I really want to try it out, soo.. here comes the fateful question:

Should I get a Rune Factory game, and if so, which one? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasmile.gif)

*Note* I dont really have a preference to wii or DS versions, but DS is slightly easier to play, because you can have it with you anywhere.

The quality of HM games, in my opinion, waned for many years since AWL. I've been interested in a few HM games for the handheld, but none of them kept my interest for too long.

I can honestly say I don't play any of the new HM games. I play Rune Factory. Rune Factory 1 For the DS sorta grabbed my interest. I liked the dungeon crawling aspect as well as it's Harvest Moon feel. I loved this game and loved it until there was nothing left to do in it.

Rune Factory 2 fixed a lot of problems that 1 had and introduced a few neat concepts (Playing as the child you raise with your wife.) It also helped in that other people moved around more often, making it feel like you were in an apocalyptic world less often than you did in 1.

Rune Factory 3... /just started playing it, ask again later

Rune Factory Fronter is a fantastic game. I don't need to explain this because you can just look around the internet for a few minutes and find out how much people loved the helk outta that thing. For starting, I recommend RF Frontier since it should really warm you up to the games.

I also have all the RF games out in English, and I love them all <3. Yes, you should get them, it's not even a question for me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) .

So basically you start as a guy, with amnesia. He comes a cross some village he's never been to before. The first person he runs into is some girl who sets him up with a place to live on a farm. You start living on the farm and doing stuff similar to HM. You plant crops for that season and you can get livestock. But instead of buying animals you have to go out and tame wild monsters that try to kill you. Each game has dungeons with a boss at the end. The fighting is not turn based. You can just run around slashing whatever gets in your way. Dungeons normally have a specific season. So you can grow whatever crop you want at anytime of the year if you've got dungeons for the seasons you want. There is a plot where the main guy has to solve some mystery and save the town/the country. After you beat the plot you can still play the game like normal. You can get married and start a family. There are annual festivals to go to. And you can befriend the interesting villagers. You can cook dishes, craft accessories, concoct potions, and forge armors.

That is for all the RF games out in English right now. RFO which is only available in Japanese right now has some differences from that general explanation.

I think the best one to start out with is RF1, if you really think you're going to get more later, or RF2 is you're not sure if you're going to get another.

RF1 for the DS because it is the first Rune Factory game and it's always nice to start at the beginning. Plus RF1 has a lot of problems and such so after playing the improved games it will be hard to go back and play this, unless you became a real fan of the series. So if you think you're going to be be getting another RF game I defiantly suggest starting here. That way the RF games you play later will seem better and better. Although RF1 is always special since it was my first R game. It is not my favorite.

If you really need a good impression to stay interested in the series and or are afraid you won't get how to play I suggest starting with RF2 (DS). It has much more to do than RF1 and has some of the flaws fixed so it will probably give you a better first impression of the RF universe. Plus the game is made up of two generations. You start as a guy named Kyle but the real plot doesn't start until you get married and have a child. After that you get to start playing as Kyle's child. So not only is that an awesome feature, you have the whole first generation to get the hang of how the games works. Since there is no plot yet and all the dungeons are very easy.

RF2 is my personal favorite RF game.

hmm.... I'm not usually big on RP style games, but I might give it a try :)
I'll probably see if I can rent it first before I decide to buy it or not though

You can get RF at gamestop for about $10, it's cheaper than RF2 (20) or RF3 (30)

Yeah if you can find it really cheap you might as well get it. But renting is a good idea. I hope you try it.

Haha RF1 is 10$, RF2 is 20$, RF3 is 30$. I bet RF4 will be for the 3DS so it will probably cost 40$ haha

I suggest Rune Factory 2. It's better than one because you get married faster and it's easier. Plus, you have requests. That makes it a lot moar interesting. I love the idea of playing as your kid SPOILER KINDA OF after your character, Kyle, leaves after he remembers why he came to Alvarna. SPOILER OVER :D
