They're rhetorical? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) Besides, I often use question marks at the end of statements. It's one of my things.

:] I noticed. In the last 7 (now 8) posts here you had a question mark included in it.

I have a math question. But first I have to go find it. :DD

Kay. We're working with functions again, and we're supposed to state the domain and range again, and I was wondering if these were right:

h(x) = { x if x < -2
4 if x > -2

And for that I got:
D = { All Real Numbers }
R = { y | -1 < y < 4 }

The next question was:

f(x) = {-3 if x < 1
-x if x > 1

And I got:

D = { All Real Numbers}
R = { y | y < -1}

I know this should be easy, but I've never been super keen on math. :D Thanks for your help.

You're almost right about the domain in the first question, but not the range. I'm curious though, what made you think that? Maybe I could help you out more then.

h(x) = { x if x < -2
4 if x > -2

D = {x is an element of real | x != -2}
R = {y is an element of real | y < -2, y = 4}

Seems the math is missing -2 itself: it has above and below it. y is x below -2, so it's anything below -2. Since after -2 it stays at 4, the only other option y can be is 4.

For the next one...

f(x) = {-3 if x < 1
-x if x > 1

D = {x is an element of real | x != 1}
R = {y is an element of real | y < -1}

As I said before, you're skipping the value for 1 because there's nothing that has the equal sign to it. Whether that was a typo of you writing this up or not I don't know. I'll assume it wasn't. The most y could be is -1 if x were 1, which it couldn't be as said above so it can only be less than that. There is no bottom limit, so you only need to say it's below -1. So with the exception of the domain here, you got this one right.

Oh durr. I just noticed it did have the equals sign. Sorry, I copied it and it removed it D: I guess you underlined it? Well, in that case...

h(x) = { x if x < -2
4 if x > -2

D = {x is an element of real}
R = {y is an element of real | y < -2, y = 4}

Ad the second one...

f(x) = {-3 if x < 1
-x if x > 1

D = {x is an element of real}
R = {y is an element of real | y < -1}

Normally I just type >= or <=.

We were supposed to graph them, too, and on the first one, it turns out only to be a sement instead of a ray, I think it was, because I left my work at school and only have the questions here with me. But I'll make a note of it, and check it on monday with my teacher. :D Thanks, Saffules.
