Xseed Will Publish The Latest Harvest Moon Game In North America

Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land is coming to North America, but the game won’t be titled “Harvest Moon”. Instead, the game will be titled Story of Seasons and will be published by Xseed Games. (Thanks, IGN.)

Why the name change? Because Natsume Inc., who have been publishing Harvest Moon from the very start of the series, owns the Harvest Moon name in North America, so Xseed can’t use it themselves.

Story of Seasons will be available in North America later this year. As previously detailed, the game will feature fully customizable characters and a number of other features. You can catch up with our past coverage here.

It's probably interesting to note that Natsume can still use the HM name if they want to... and have developed their own few titles actually. This whole thing could be a very interesting development indeed.

It's weird. I've been playing Harvest Moon for 20 years. Now I'll be ordering Story of Seasons.

Darth: I'm sure they had authorization to develop outside of Marvelous for the HM IP. But you never know.

The name is definitely different. At least the games are the same, and I'm guessing the weird name is just what Marvelous AQL decided on for it.

Well, they could still, say, work with Toybox to develop something like Hometown Story and use the Harvest Moon name this time. Doing that could easily make a whole parallel series, headed by the OG of the Harvest Moon series, Yasuhiro Wada instead of modern Marvelous. All kinds of weird things can happen with this.

Story of Seasons (Harvest Moon) Has Its First English Screenshots

Story of Seasons, better known as Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land, will be published in North America this Winter, Xseed Games have announced. Yes, Xseed are publishing the new Harvest Moon, not Natsume.

And that's why the game is being called Story of Seasons instead of Harvest Moon—because Natsume owns that name in the U.S. In fact, throughout Xseed's entire press release announcement, the game is referred to as Story of Seasons, while the Harvest Moon franchise is referred to as "Bokujo Monogatari," its Japanese name.

"Story of Seasons represents a new chapter in our amazing tale," says Yoshifumi Hashimoto, Head of Development at Marvelous AQL, in the press release.

"We are creating a new experience that will carry on the spirit of Bokujo Monogatari, and in doing so, will fulfill our loyal fans' expectations and desires while ushering in a new generation of games to come.

Those translations and name decisions are looking mighty fine to me. I think I can deal with a change in title. ........Though, I'm probably gonna make up and print out a Harvest Moon logo to go over the new one anyway.

Story of Seasons makes sense to me....if "Harvest Moon" never existed, I'd be fine with it.....
But Harvest Moon exits so it feels very wrong. Can I have a sticker of the logo too please. B[

Happy though, since when it's published by Xseed it always seems to come here faster, from memory. Not that I own a 3DS anyway....
