Tagline: A busy farm life full of animals.
Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land
Bokujou Monogatari: Tsunagaru Shintenchi
[Official (Japanese) site]
Japanese release date: 27 February 2014

Marvelous AQL's video intro for the game:[here]
(Japanese only, duh)

Japanese TV commercials: [1][2][3]
(Again, Japanese only. Featuring actress Ito Ohno, who now also appears on the main page of the official site.)

This topic is primarily devoted to translating info from the official Japanese site.

Note about the title: "Tsunagaru" means "to be connected to." "Shintenchi" literally means "new land," but it can also mean "new world" or "a new realm of activity." The game's title is probably supposed to reflect all three meanings!

Comic: (by Yoshifumi Hashimoto and artist Michiru Michi, translated by Marie)
The comic is a must-read for all fans! It details some of the most important features of the game.
Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Page 5 | Page 6 | Page 7 | Page 8 | Page 9 | Page 10
Since it's a Japanese comic, remember that the panels are read from right to left!

Prologue (Storyline)
[source]

One winter day...
The protagonist, whose days follow one after another with no change,
finds an advertisement in the mailbox.

"Recruiting new ranch owners!!
Wouldn't you like to work with us?"

One week later...
The message saying that the protagonist passed
The ranch exam arrived in the mail.

The protagonist quickly packed their things, and
headed off to "Oak Tree Town," thrilled about the excitement-filled
ranch life!

Marriage Candidates
Female
[source]
These are the ladies you can marry if you're playing as a guy.

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/lilie_zpsb075322c.png)
Lilie
"When I come here, I can relax, especially after I've been to work in the city."

Full of life and with a love for children, she is the TV weather girl.
Outside of the weather forecast, she also works as a singer for
childrens' programs and as an announcer, so she's very busy.
On her days off, she looks after her younger sister,
chats with the elderly, and even in private works to help someone,
so she's popular in town.

(Screenshot)
"This is a very wonderful town, so I'd love it if more people come to know
about this town's merits."

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/iris_zps96563d4f.png)
Irisu/Elise/Iris (pronounced 'ee-ris')
Take your pick on the name. I'm sticking with "Irisu" since it's a literal transliteration of her name.

"The clear autumn sky is very pretty. This way I can receive various forms of excitement, so in this season my writing progresses."

She's Mistel's older sister, and works as a novelist.
She has an abundance of knowledge and experience, doesn't let small things bother her and has a refreshing personality.
She's sisterly and good at looking out for others, and kindly helps others to love.
If she spends all day at her desk writing a novel, she'll relax and go for a walk around town, so she's fairly laid back.

(Screenshot)
"This town isn't very well known, so whenever the editor in charge of my work changes, I have to give an explanation of the location, and that's difficult."

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/angela_zps4e3ccae6.png)
Angela
"At first glance you seem to be fine, but... Since you came here,
does that mean something is wrong?"

She's guild master Veronica's daughter, and works as a nurse
at the clinic. She's very quick to think, so everyone sees
her as having a cool personality.
She does everything according to a plan, so she doesn't fare well
when unexpected things come up.
She seems mature beyond her years, and rarely shows her emotions.

"...Did you skin your elbows? They are bleeding. Please hold still."

(IMG:http://i60.tinypic.com/by4wo.jpg)
Meno
"A little while ago, the animals presented me with a flower. They're all very kind♪"

A female ranger who loves animals and knows everything about the safari.
On the outside she seems gentle and ladylike, but she's actually bold, fine with going to dangerous places, and willing to take action! As a result, her body has many scratches and cuts. She is so kind that no one has seen what she's like when angry.

(Screenshot)
"Here I often give the animals treats, play with them, or things like that♪"

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/Eliza_zps807b16ff.png)
Elize
"Ahh, I worked hard today so I'm tired. Before I sleep, perhaps I should get a maid to give me a massage."

Like the protagonist, she runs a farm.
Born as the daughter of a very rich family, she has had a very easy life, and as a result is selfish and egotistic. On a whim she started a farm on land owned by her family, and figuring that her money lets her do what she wants, she hires others to take care of things and is quite prideful in running her farm.

(Screenshot)
"Are you interested in my mansion? Well then, I have no choice but to extend to you a special invitation!"

Bachelors
[source]
These are the men you can marry if you're playing as a girl.

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/reiger_zpsa498c2a6.png)
Reiga/Rega
"On rainy days we don't get many customers... I should really to try to think of some kind of event for rainy days to make them want to come."

A young man who works as the cook at the restaurant.
He's chipper and active, and immediately acts on his thoughts.
He's skilled at cooking, so skilled that people come from far away to eat his food.
His natural good looks and smooth talking draw others to him, especially the female customers.
Therefore, others may mistakenly think that he is shallow, but he is actually the serious type.

(Screenshot)
"I inherited this shop from my grandpa."

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/klaus_zps0c8ea91e.png)
Klaus
"You seem so busy every day. Oh yes, you should come to my home next time. I'll make a perfume with a scent that heals tiredness."

He's a first-class gentleman [dandy] who works as a professional perfume maker.
He is broad-minded and tolerant of others. As to scents he is a professional, so if you make a request and he's in the mood, he'll mix it up for you. Due to his calm nature, he's becoming a person others can rely on.

(Screenshot)
"There's a lot of nature around here, which is just what you want when talking a walk.
Minori, if you have time, would you join me?"

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/mistel_zps56991ba1.png)
Mistel
"There are a lot of valuable things in here, so please do not run around very much."

The young man who manages the antique shop. Though he looks childish, at his core he thinks like an adult, and always acts in a gentlemanly way. Just like his older sister Irisu, he has a refreshing personality. He likes old things, so he deals in various things like furniture, accessories, art, etc.

(Screenshot)
"Hey, I have not seen your face before. Are you perhaps that new person I have heard rumours of, the ranch owner?"

(IMG:http://i59.tinypic.com/21lsv84.jpg)
Nadi
"I don't like mornings. Don't talk to me so much. …......Aaah, I'm still sleepy..."

A landscaper/gardener who often talks and acts in a blunt manner. He works pruning and making gardens while traveling the world all by himself.
As regards to work, he is diligent and polite.
Though his mannerisms are a bit harsh, he is sensitive and sometimes easily hurt. Sometimes after he's said too much [or after he's had his say], he secretly becomes depressed.

(Screenshot)
"When I first came to this town, I got lost on the way and no matter who I asked, they'd never heard of this town. That was no help!"

(IMG:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/SesshomaruLOVESme/fritz_zpsd6b7fe92.png)
Fritz
"Hmm... I wonder what I should do for my plans for tomorrow. Nah, nevermind. What will be will be, 'cause there's nothing I can't do!"

Like the protagonist, he runs a farm.
Generally speaking, he's bright and positive, a soft-hearted boy who can't ignore someone in trouble. He's not good at thinking before he acts, and even though he intends to stick firmly to a plan, he always misses some important part of it. Because of that, he's often a bother to his neighbours, but everyone thinks of him as "the guy you just can't hate."

(Screenshot)
"Whew~, I worked hard today! So did you, Minori~."

Townspeople
[source]

(IMG:http://oi57.tinypic.com/nbq1oi.jpg)
Veronica
An intelligent woman, she is the one who organises the peddlers who come from many different countries.
She gets right to the point and is sometimes stern, but since she treats everyone with impartiality, she is highly trusted by others.

"There are many fish in the river around here. The townspeople also go fishing often."

(IMG:http://oi57.tinypic.com/2ufcysl.jpg)
Gaiser
He runs the carpentry in town.
A long time ago, after intense appeals from [the woman who is now] his wife, he gave in and married her, despite their age difference. He's always calm, caring, and good at his work, so many people have a strong trust in him.

"Hey, is your work going well? Try not to work too hard."

(IMG:http://oi60.tinypic.com/r1anwy.jpg)
Kron
She is Gaiser's wife and in charge of handling customers at the carpentry. When he came to remodel her parents' home, she fell in love with him while watching him work, and after intensely appealing to him, they overcame their age difference and married. She is still young in many ways, and as handling customers was her first job [or “a first for her”], she still makes mistakes sometimes. However, her natural positivity helps to get through the situation.

"It's a nice summer day today. But, the sunlight is harsh, so outside work must be difficult."

(IMG:http://oi61.tinypic.com/15nvtar.jpg)
Morris
This man manages the town's only inn. He's generous and often takes in people who have no money and cares for them. He really cherishes his daughters Lilie and Mertie.

"I make sure to take walks just as far as my daughter says she can go, but it still feels very nice to do so."

(IMG:http://oi61.tinypic.com/2pra1cn.jpg)
Mertie
The daughter of the innkeeper, Morris. She is still very much a little girl, and honestly believes that "someday her prince will come on his white horse"! When around boys who seem attractive or promising, she'll make herself seem cuter and really assert herself. Her "ideal of love" is more advanced than that of her sister Lilie's, and she often gives advice.

"There's a rabbit here. Sometimes I play with it."

(IMG:http://oi61.tinypic.com/25zgy9f.jpg)
Ottomer
An old man who runs a small general store.
He is very laid back lives life at his own pace.
His daily routine includes shutting himself up in his house to do things like crafting [making something] or read a book. His hobby is to fool around with his garden on his days off.
Lately, he's been very forgetful, to the point where he even forgets things like what day of the week it is...

"Sometimes I come to buy goods wholesale, but... What was I going to buy today?"

Types of Animals
I covered this in a post on Tumblr.

Ranch Life
There are 8 pages on this section of the site. They are mostly covered in the comic found above, but contain a lot of screenshots.

Page 2: Engage in Foreign Trade!
[source]

Ship your produce all over the world through foreign trade!
Merchants from many countries come to the "Trade Station."
You can export your produce, milk and egg products, and more to a variety of other countries!

At the shops in the trade station, you're not limited to shipping. You can also buy items and new animals from the importers. There are some rare things you can get only from the importers!

Take advantage of recommendations and special sales to trade profitably.
Sometimes a shop will have a sale, and that shop's stock can be bought for a reduced price. Make sure to check sometimes! If the shops have regular patrons, something good might happen, such as sales occurring more often!

Take on requests from your trading partners!
At the trade station's information desk, you can accept requests from your trading partners. If you complete the request, the town will become more well-known, and you can receive special thanks!
(The screenshots suggest there is a star quality involved in these requests. The Silk Road country wants you to ship at least 4 eggs with a minimum rank of 0.5 stars. Their reward consists of apricots and small stone lumber.)

The goods you ship can become popular in other countries!
If you ship your produce, by-products, clothing, accessories, etc. to other countries, those goods can become the latest fad! If they do, you will receive a letter from the trader, so eagerly wait for it!

Open your own store.
You can open your own store at the trade station and sell produce and more directly to customers! You can decorate your store according to the goods you're selling.

Page 6: Fall In Love!
[source]

Have a super-sweet romance!
If you befriend one of the town's marriage candidates, you can fall in love, marry, and have a child!
Enjoy a life filled with happiness with the one you love♪

Step 1: Friends
Befriend them through conversation and presents!
If you find someone who strikes your interest, (vigorously) take the initiative and befriend them!
If you talk to them each day, and give them presents such as food, their friendship level will go up♪

(IMG:http://i60.tinypic.com/2j318i1.jpg)
(starting from left screenshot)
Klaus: "Hmm? You want to know what I'm doing? I'm making perfume."
Angela: "I haven't done anything to warrant receiving a present... Oh, if you insist, I will take it. Thank you."
Reiga: "I'll take it, thanks. But, if you give me something again, I'd appreciate it if you stopped giving me this." (Or, "I'd be happy to not receive this again.")

If you give someone something they don't like, their friendship level will drop, so do some research first!

Step 2: Sweethearts
Once you're friends, confess your feelings by giving them a ring!
If you become lovers, you can enjoy intimate conversation and romantic events!
In events like the Starry Night Festival, spend the time in a romantic way alone with your lover♪

(IMG:http://i60.tinypic.com/1zv7g9z.jpg)
(starting from left screenshot)
Reiga: "That ring......ah, for me...huh? That means......W-wait! Let's go somewhere else for now!"
Reiga: "...Thank goodness. I was just thinking, Minori, what would I do if I didn't get a Thanksgiving Festival sweet from you?"
Lilie: "Well, let's hurry and find a good place, and then enjoy the Starry Night Festival!"

Don't forget to show good manners even with close friends!
If you don't talk to them for a long time, or show someone else a precious ring, or while dating do something that your partner hates, you could be dumped, so beware!

Step 3: Marriage
Propose and swear eternal love!
Once your love is deep enough, you can finally propose! And get married!!
In your married life, you can eat together, get help for the farm work, and your farm live becomes more fun!

(IMG:http://i58.tinypic.com/281u4v9.jpg)
(only the middle screenshot has text so, um, duh)
Mistel: "I have something important to tell you today. That's hard to do here, so... Let's go somewhere else."

When you have made your decision, give them the Blue Feather! Your partner could propose to you, too♪

Adorable twins will be born. Cultivate love as a family!
Some time after you've been married the fruit of your love, children, will be born!
(There's a bit of wordplay here: that could also be translated as “two fruits of love, children, will be born,” referring to the twins.)

(IMG:http://i58.tinypic.com/1yp9n9.jpg)
(clockwise from top left)
Angela: "They've both been born safely. You've done well. Good job."
Reiga: "But, truly, seeing them makes me feel better. I'm looking forward to seeing them grow."
Megumi: "Mamaa♪"

It's hard to get a solid hold on their personalities from just the few sentences they provide on the site.

But, I tend to like the marriage candidates who are on the extreme ends of the age/maturity spectrum: I like the adult and/or mature characters and the immature, childish ones.

Of the girls, I definitely like Irisu (she's an author! how cool!), and Elize.

I've paid more attention to the guys, since I plan to play my first file as a girl. I like Klaus and Mistel the best right now. But, honestly, I think *any* of the men introduced thus far could grow on me after I play for a while. So I have absolutely no idea whom I will marry on my first file.

I'd let Klaus kidnap me and hold me in his dungeon.

Holding maidens captive must be the best way to find test subjects for his perfume.

...I'd let him kidnap me, too. (And hope he doesn't make the musk-based perfumes to which I'm allergic. I'll bet he doesn't.)

Edit: And then Irisu would help me write a book about the whole adventure! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif)

Y'all be crazy.

Anywho. I think it's just that I kind of feel like I've seen most of these personality types already. I've seen animal nuts, over-protective medical professionals, writers, and whatever already. So it'll definitely probably be some more subtle thing they bring to the table through events or dialog more than anything.

Mmm-hmm. They've been reusing the same basic types of characters for years. They seem to mix-and-match the same traits into different characters each time. Forming solid characters when writing fiction is really difficult if you don't give yourself ample time to plan, and I'll bet they run into the same issue.

I'm more excited about other features. I'm looking forward to seeing how the streamlined farming and trading center works. I like the idea of having multiple rivals, too.

If they make trading actually easy to do, that'd be a great boon. That one-at-a-time item trading form before was godawful. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasad.gif)

Oh, I'm so stupid. (And bad at romanising names.) It didn't occur to me until I saw a post on Twi's Tumblr, but 「フリーツ」is probably supposed to be "Fritz." (Nevermind that "Furiitsu" is pronounced more like "Fleet," which makes me think of the farm-and-fleet stores so popular around here, but aaaanyway...)

Romanising names can be such a pain...

Page 2 of the "Ranch Life" section added. I'm dropping the more literal translations for something that sounds a little less stilted.

One of the animals you can get at the trade station is the camel, as is shown on another section of the site:
(IMG:http://bokumono.com/series/tsunagaru/assets/images/page/life/03/section_07.jpg)
It says the camel can be sheared. (Not milked...interesting!)

I really like them! In ANB, you buy the blueprint and then when you have the materials necessary, you can make the building/tool/farm field/garden item/whatever in the little studio attached to your house. (The studio is already there when you start the game.) Most of the stuff you can make can be sold, so you can make some money out of building stuff.

From the pre-release stuff I've seen, it looks like the blueprint/building system Tsunagaru is quite similar to ANB's.

And I'm wondering about having to stay at the lady's house for a week during the tutorial. Is it going to be like ANB's tutorial, or are they going to at least assume you already know how to walk this time around?
