That's what's so damn irritating and confusing. One is spelled "irisu" and pronounced "Ēlise" (hard s) and the other is spelled "eriize" And pronounced "Ĕlize" with the closing sound made even softer by using "ze" to spell it instead of "zu". In Japanese, they're completely different names, but in English they're so similar it can be difficult to distinguish.

Translating names from romaji can be such a pain. ><

Some of the names in this game seem like they're supposed to be Germanic. I now think that "Irisu" IS Iris--only pronounced differently than we English speakers pronounce it. In some Germanic languages (excluding English, of course), it's pronounced "Ee-ris." Since her brother, Mistel, has a name that seems Germanic, I think it's likely that her name is supposed to be "Iris," pronounced the German way. ("Mistel" is the German word for "mistletoe." )

...Anyway, that's my two cents on that.

And I'm such a nerd that I DO actually research names, but that's because I'm an amateur genealogist with heavy German and Czech roots and thus see many names on my family tree that seem familiar to us English speakers, but are actually pronounced totally differently. Names that include Veronika (Vay-ROH-nee-ka), Angela (with a hard "g"), Marie (MAY-ree), etc.

Makes me wonder what Natsume will do when they make English names for all these characters, hmm...

Harvest Moon 3DS A new Aww... Rabbit or Cow or Cat or Dog or Horse or Sheep is animals heart "sick" cute.

QUOTE

Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land is all about safaris. Players can leave the ranch and visit new areas like an iceberg or climb up rocky mountains. There players will find new animals like penguins and set animals you have back to the wild.

Of course you can keep animals on your farm. Cows produce milk, chickens make eggs, and sheep yield wool. If you take good care of your animals by feeding them everyday and brushing their fur the by products you get will be better quality.

And for animals you really love, you can make them pets inside your home. Dogs, cats, and horses are some of the pets in Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land. You can take your dog for a walk and play fetch the bone with it.

Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land comes out on February 27 for Nintendo 3DS in Japan. First print copies include an extra large Angora rabbit strap.

I just realised Sessy's post wasn't first anymore. Can that be changed somehow? :0
Also, where is Sessy, I wonder. .A.

(And I'm wondering if this linking from the wiki is working. The topic seems to have quite a fair few hits)

Someone merged this topic with Harvest's original topic covering the game, so now his post is at the top. As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to pin her post or anything, but we can edit Harvest's post with the same information and just update it that way.

Yeah, I merged the topic, since there were complaints about people posting info in the wrong thread. :P There actually is a way to do what Charmy said. Select Harvest's post and Sessy's post, then click "merge posts"

Make Sessy the original author, go back and add in that the rest is from Harvest, and bam. Sessy is the first poster.

Haha, I knew they were merged. I remember coming in and seeing your posts in this thread and was like, "Did I do a chaos move and tell them to post in the thread they were already posting in? .A." then realised your post later that you said you merged it. I just thought Sessy's should still be first post, or whoever is going to keep updating the information.
Thanks. :D

Sessy's probably been inundated with work thanks to the launch of her new book. I'm sure she'll be back when things settle down over her way. :)

Haha, poor Harvest. <3

I have to say, I've never been a huge fan of handheld Harvest Moon games.

But after A New Beginning, I'm very excited for this one. Keep me posted, please.

I'm tackling a scanlation of the manga with the highly sophisticated imaging program known as "MS Paint."

I've finished the first five pages, and I'll have the other five completed sometime tomorrow, I hope (or over the weekend depending on how things go).

Harvest Moon [Ranch Story]: Connect to a New Land
Thorough Comprehension Comic

Manga by Michiru Michi
Edited by Yoshifumi Hashimoto (of Marvelous AQL)
(And unofficial translation by Marie)
Remember that since this is a Japanese comic, the panels are read from right to left.
If for some reason you can't view them, please let me know. I haven't used Tinypic much in ages and have noticed that it doesn't seem to like me all the time...

I'd like to ask what "zo" on the ends of sentences means. I've heard it a few times and have no idea. ^^;

Says he stays at Edda's for a week. If that really is the tutorial, I hope it's no longer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

Are you familiar with the sentence ending "yo"? "zo" is similar to "yo," only more emphatic. It's sometimes added to a sentence to denote a warning or to alert. Also it's used more often by males (or tough females). (Definition courtesy of my old grammar book, lol.)

When I was in Japan (a whole decade ago, almost! Yeesh), my host brother used "zo" a lot too. He was just a little older than I and used almost every bit of masculine/macho speech I know. I think he wanted everyone to think he was a tough guy. Since he was kinda small and not very robust, it just seemed funny. My host mother loved to imitate his speech in an over-the-top manner when talking about him, haha. (She was a native of Osaka, and had her own colourful way of speaking, but that's another story.)

Ah, I see they've now added Meno and Nadi to the bachelor/bachelorette pages!

Bachelor page | Bachelorette page

Won't do a full translation until after I finish the comic, but it looks like Nadi is a landscaper who is working while travelling the world all by himself. He's a hard worker. And though he speaks and talks in a rough manner, he's actually kind of sensitive and sometimes easily offended. (His quote on the page seems to suggest that he also is not a big fan of getting up early, hehe.)

Meno is a park ranger who loves animals. She looks ladylike but seems to be a bold tomboy-ish kind of girl. She's also very kind, so much so that no one has ever seen her angry.
