So I was doing a little thinking, and wondering if it would be insanely challenging to change the ranking system that currently exists on the forums today? Right now, we use a five star rating system to rate the people who post on the forums.
Would it be challenging to change this to the heart system that Harvest Moon uses in their franchises? Black - No Rating Blue/Purple - 1 Star Green - 2 Stars Yellow - 3 Stars Orange - 4 Stars Red - 5 Stars Just an idea that I had while browsing the site. :) |

I don't think it would be too hard from what I can think of in programming. Mostly just a change in images? It would make me feel like I'm dating the entire forum though.
You didn't bring me flowers today how dare you. ;m; |

Maybe you ARE dating the entire forum. I didn't know you had it in you, Charmy. :)

Hahahaha I love the idea but Charmy brings up a good point about the heart levels and dating the forum. Maybe just make them into medals instead? :o

I don't really see the need, seeing most people just slam down 5 stars whenever a new member shows up.
I want the chicks back! |

I agree with Charmy, the heart levels are too connected with dating and marriage in the game to be used for rating someone in awesomeness. :P
This reminds me of when I said that if RS were to get a designer, it can't be just any designer. They would very likely make similar 'mistakes' like this. That's why the designer we need is one that knows all the intricacies of Harvest moon and how to apply them to a design. That's why I'm not making a design, even though I can make a very good generic website... :P Good effort though Peter -- I award you thought points! |

There's the decent milk, the good milk, the great milk, the perfect milk, and the milk you get when they win the Cow Festival.
Or the milks with the sizes. I think you could still use hearts, just the little ones that you get for the animals, pets, etc. Like with Magical Melody. EDIT: here! |

I got vegetables.....lol
Especially after Tot and Animal Parade having the yellowish veggies to sparkle. (And too much frantic farming) So um.. Sprouts is no rating 1 star is non matured veggie 2 is green 3 is yellow ish 4 normal And 5 shiny? Let me know or feel free to add any ideas. I was thinking maybe there would be an option of what sort of veggie you have. Or there's always power berries? |

The cool thing about ideas is that they can be modified after thought and feedback.
So we bump the heart colors down a notch (since blue and purple are separate hearts in the game) and make it so that the maximum heart level is orange. This is usually good friends or close fondness of a person, but not to the point where you want to marry them. I personally think it is incorrect to associate the heart levels with dating as it is used for everything in the game: animals, neighbors, etc. They don't always use colors (in MM they just used up to ten red hearts). However, this whole idea couldn't work for the point that Charmy and Daniella made: it is a public system. It isn't fair that Charmy would be a yellow heart to everyone just because some people voted her down. It would have to be a separate system from the ranking system. I do like the power berry idea a lot more though. |

Whuuut I swore I posted D:
The older games used the coloured heart system for dating/marriage. Nowadays, then tend to use the average pink hearts and number for dating and friendship. If we were to go with hearts, I'd say the ones like in MM as Daniella said. Though instead of something like, "we like you this much", I'd prefer "I'm this good a farmer" like the stars - I'm this good a member (even though it is really based on whether people like us or not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) ). So I think the plants/power berries/etc. sound better, in my opinion. |

It isn't fair that Charmy would be a yellow heart to everyone just because some people voted her down. It would have to be a separate system from the ranking system. I'm actually not fond of the ranking system for people in general. Everyone currently here and active deserves 5 stars, but then some loser decides to give you a bad ranking for stupid reasons to drop you to 4. How about removing it? |

I wouldn't mind having it removed. I never cared much for it or about it anyway, since it's completely arbitrary.

I agree with Jason. Honestly, besides physically looking at anyone's profiles, when do you really see this system implemented?
It's just unnecessary. |

See? I just KNEW this thread would be productive in some fashion. ;)
I'm down for removal. -EDIT- OR, we make the star system more objective instead of subjective (and switch it to power berries)? We do that by saying you can earn power berries based on your activity. 1 Power Berry - Having your Avg. Posts Per Day >= 1 1 Power Berry - Logging in for X days consecutively (would stay until three days are missed or something) 1 Power Berry - Creating a Topic at least once a month. 1 Power Berry - Total posts >=30 for any given 30 day period 1 Power Berry - ??? Jason mentioned something that I liked -- The people who are here, active and posting deserve to be five stars. A system that is objective and based on activity would be a much better system to rank someone on. And, because they are actively achievable, they can also go away if you fall off the face of the planet, encouraging consistent activity and new topics to talk about. |
