I'll update my stats later todat after I play, but I did play for a decent time yesterday. I'm now around Spring 15th on my first file. I finally got my first cow. My one complaint so far is that it is super slow moving, and there really is nothing to do. I wake up, water my crops, scavenge, talk to the four villagers, and go to bed at 6:00. Otherwise it's really cool and fresh. There are times where I forget I'm playing Harvest Moon. It's different, but I like it.

Okay, so, stat update.
Titles: 3rd Year Novice Sous Chef Novice Fisherman Novice Trapper Elite Catcher Brands: Milk - No Name Current Date: Fall 19th Money: 23336g (All that damn fertilizer. B|) Animals: 4 Cows, Saab, Toyota, Ford, and Volvo 1 Sheep, NASA 4 Chickens, Sony, JVC, Compaq, and Acer 1 Silkie, Nokia 12 Beehuts - They're gonna disappear for the winter soon. I've been stockpiling Western Honey Bees to refill them next spring. Anyway, I've been trying to raise 3 Star Spinach. I don't think I'm going to get lucky enough to manage that. However, Daikon Radishes only take 3 days to grow in Soil Fields if you water them twice a day and the General Store is open on the 1st of Winter this year, so I may just try my luck with that instead. I do have until Spring 11th before I actually have to do anything, but I'd really like to have everything else done before then if possible. I want to start and complete all of the construction for TRP#5 the first day I possibly can. I'm also trying to make the 'Red Checkered Skirt' from Yuri's Tailor Shop. If any of you come across Red Down, please pass it my way. I need 18 of them, and I've only found 2 so far. |

Cher's guide is probably the only thing around, and what little of it there is is kind of riddled with typographical errors and minor mistakes. That said, I'm pretty sure she'll fix them at some point.
You can't put your branches and rocks anywhere until Spring 25th or later. You have to keep them in your rucksack, but trust me, it's worth losing the extra space. You're gonna need at least 100 of those Small Branches over the course of the game. Anyway, once you make it to Spring 25th, Rebecca, the architect, will open up shop and you'll be able to buy the blueprint for a supply shed from her. It's stupid, but the game handles itself in a very stupid manner. There's a lot of lull time before you start the Town Renovation Plans, and if you don't plan for those well enough in advance, you'll end up with even more lull time. Hell, even if you do, some of the requirements force you to wait until a certain date. On top of all that, crops don't really sell for a whole lot and unless you have a ton of livestock, animal products won't earn you much either. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but everything in this damn game is overpriced. Fertilizer is 100g per bag, and if you're like me and have eight fields, you go through 64 bags of fertilizer a day. When you're only raking in between 5k and 15k per day on average, that ends up amounting to quite a lot. Of course, the only reason that this is actually a problem for me right now is because I had to spend 30k on a goddamn commitment ring to give to my girlfriend, which seriously cut into my summer surplus, and now I have to spend 100k on the blue feather to marry her. It's ridiculous. Guhhhh. I wish Spring would come already so that I'd have more to do than attempt to raise a three star crop. I've already stockpiled most of the materials necessary for everything in the next Town Renovation Plan. All I'm missing are some Black Rocks and Black Branches. I also miss the Bazaar. That was fun. ;w; |

Well. This requires a full status update, I think.
Name: Claire Skin: Yellow Face: Wide-eyed Hair: Ponytail Color: Pink Eyes: Purple Gear: Light Green Raincoat (IMG:http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b55/Mizukithepanda/007-2.jpg) Farm: Farron Birthday: Summer 8th Titles: 3rd Year Novice Sous Chef Novice Fisherman Novice Trapper Elite Catcher Brands: Milk - No Name Eggs - No Name Vegetables - Popular Current Date: Fall 31st Money: 91013g Animals: 4 Cows, Saab, Toyota, Ford, and Volvo 1 Sheep, NASA 1 White Alpaca, FDA 1 Horse, Disney 4 Chickens, Sony, JVC, Compaq, and Acer 2 Silkies, Nokia and Apple 12 Beehuts, but the bees are dead. ;A; Sheet Music: 9 Town Renovation Plans: 1, 2, and 3 complete, 4 95% complete, 5 100% prepared for, but not completed. Okay, so I managed to win an intermediate class crop festival with a 2.5 star Big Spinach. That means the only thing left for me to do to complete Town Renovation Plan 4 is compete in two more Gardening Tours. Goddammit. I'm am completely stoked about winning. You just have no idea. I thought it was going to be another month of misery - planting, fertilizing, and replanting the same damn thing over and over again until I'd raised its star rank. But no. Instead... instead it's going to be a month of boredom. I'm getting married to Yuri as soon as I have a large enough buffer of gold for the 100k Blue Feather to not leave me destitute, and the only things left for me to pour my money into are a couple of makers that I'm missing ingredients for. (They're things I can't get in fall or winter, unfortunately.) On another note, horses in this game suck. They're barely faster than walking, take a few seconds to get rolling, and are a real pain in the ass to cart around during foraging runs. That said, they can cut a good bit of time if you're trying to run over to the other side of town or something like that. Regardless, unless you just want one to sit in your barn and look cute, I don't recommend shelling out the cash. |

Yeah, the building animation's pretty adorable.
Anyway, to answer your questions in order... 1. Spring 25th is the first day you have the ability to store your branches, rocks, and other supply materials. Since you're already there, all you have to do is buy the blueprint for the Supply Shed from Rebecca and build it. 2. Yes, you have to build a chicken coop. Rebecca also sells the plans for this. 3. The Harvest Goddess will appear for the first time on Spring 27th, and she'll give you a tutorial on using multiplayer and wifi. You won't have access to wifi until then. There isn't really a completed guide, unfortunately. I don't even think there's a physical guidebook out in English yet. That said, if you look through this topic you'll find a few things you're gonna need right off the bat, and you can always ask me or someone else who's gotten decently far. Really, whether you "mess up" or not depends entirely on how fast you want to complete the plot. If you want to complete it at lightning speed, you're going to need to hoard pretty much everything except for bugs, fish, and your crops/produce. Probably the most important things to hoard at the early part of the game are Small Branches. You're going to need at least 100 of them. Plan 1 requires 15 of them, Plan 2 requires 50 of them, and Plan 3 requires 30 of them. Other, non-essential blueprints use them too, but I always figure that those can wait. You're also going to need Honeycomb before Summer starts. It takes 5 pieces of honeycomb to build one beehive and you have to ship 10 bottles of honey to complete the second plan. Honeycomb is only available as a foraging item in Spring and Fall, so if you don't have any saved, you're going to have to wait until Fall to complete that requirement. (Not a problem if you want to go at a more leisurely pace. :)) One other thing you might want to remember that I couldn't find anywhere until I'd already kinda screwed up, is that you're going to need to feed your animals 7 regular treats and 24 animal-specific treats to raise productivity by one level. You can get your animals to produce up to 5 items a day this way. Since I didn't know this going in, I kinda just have to go by one or the other (usually regular treats since you need fewer of them) and once I've given them the proper number of that, if it hasn't raised a level, I just start giving it the other type of treat until it does. Not the most efficient means, but it still works. EDIT: Oh yeah, and a note on my own farm... You can only propose marriage on Saturdays or Sundays. What kind of shit is that? I wanted to get married on Tuesday, damn it! |

Haha thank you for the reply but reading all your updates and stuff leaves me a feeling that I messed up hard core x.x I sold alot of things to buy my cow and then buy blueprints and trying to get the expensive copper and iron x.x! I didn't win the spring beginner crop festival either I could only get one start potato x.x. I used a bunch of fertilizer to x.x How do u get more stars on ur crops x.x Im use to playing rune factory to much (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) . I forgot alot on how harvest moon works. I really dont want to start over because I have two golden eggs that I got in mutiplayer mode (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) . I'll be honest... I've probably gotten through the plot the fastest out of anyone. There are some other people out there who've gone about as fast as I have, but not many. If you feel like you've screwed up and want to start over, then by all means, go ahead. I did it after I saw Town Renovation Plan #2 for the first time. The 50 small branch requirement threw me for a loop since I turned all of my original branches into lumber.
Really, it all depends on how fast you want to complete the game. For me, getting the retarded plot out of the way is the most important thing, and everything else comes second. To others, they like taking it slow and just enjoying their farm. If you have a specific bachelor in mind that needs to be unlocked, you might take restarting into consideration if going slow is going to prevent you from unlocking him until much later. It all just depends on what you want to do in game and what kind of pace you'll enjoy. You don't have to follow my example. Just have fun. As for Star Ranking... there are a couple of ways to do that. The first is to water your crops only once every other day to extend the period of time that you can fertilize them. You'll gain more stars the longer you use fertilizer on them. The other way is to plant them, use fertilizer until they're ready to be harvested, harvest them, put them in the seed maker, and then repeat until you have produce of the star quality you want. The latter can't be done until later in the game when you gain access to the Maker Shed, unfortunately. If the golden eggs are that important to you and you do end up wanting to start over, you can trade them to me or someone else you trust not to sell them, and one of us can hold onto them for you until you have access to multiplayer again. I'll know for sure that they're not mine, since the only chicken I have who lays golden eggs is my silkie. Anyway, it's really whatever you want to do. Just play in a way that's fun for you. :D |

No. You won't miss anything by taking it slow. There's nothing in the game that can't be obtained or unlocked if you don't do it by a certain date. Everything can be obtained and every event can be seen regardless of your pace. :D

Well, it'll be a while before you can mine. You've gotta get four music sheets before you can open the mine. And when sheep unlock depend on certain things, though they automatically unlock on Fall 1st. :D
Anyway, I'll post an update in a little while. I just can't find it in myself to crunch through an entire season in 24 hours at this point. It's too boring. I need to get to Spring so bad. Damn it. I'm gonna die from boredom, because the villagers are boring to talk to and the only pretty scenery around is in the mountains, when I'm foraging. I'll be honest, after I have a kid and get the completion statue, I'll probably never pick this game up again. |
