NOTE: I found this buried in my email folder... It was so long ago--- it's totally unfinished but I'd like to see what you guys think :) Forgive my grammar and punctuation and spelling.. It was made... I dunno... ages ago.
Prologue From the moment I heard her voice, I knew I would make her my wife. "Kimi" was her name, and the way she said it made my heart melt. I was in my final year of Law school and she was a junior taking courses in criminology. It was the most awkward introduction you could imagine.. something right out of a high school drama show. I was making my way to sit with her in the one course we shared, I was being out right nonchalant about it all, there happened to be a free seat next to her and I was a tick late. But as I made my way up the benches, just as I was on the stair to sit beside her, she looked over, well, up at me from her seat and it was like invisible shoelaces tripped me or something, because I was on the ground with my papers everywhere in an instant. Unfortunately everyone saw, and so did Kimi, everyone laughed, and so did Kimi. However, through those adorable giggles and sweet smiles she helped me to clean up and get organized. The rest of the class was basically a fail.. I couldn't even risk a look at her, I was too embarrassed still.. and my knee was throbbing from the landing. Despite our rough meeting, we became friends, and studied together a lot. A week before I was to become a certified Lawyer and leave the school, I asked her to become my girlfriend, she accepted without hesitation. In the summer that I was making my beginning marker as a lawyer, Kimi and I moved into a small apartment home. I never mentioned, but I come from a very wealthy lineage.. Kimi, did not. My family was against us being together. By the time she was finished her courses in college we were engaged and soon after married. My mother and father had both passed away when I was young, and it was mainly my Grandfather and the secondary family elders that were upholding our family name and business in law. When my grandfather finally passed away, no one could deny me the right to become the Head of the family for any longer. With my new wife, we moved into the house I was raised in and took control. Kimi was my light, she was the one thing that got me through the day, the only thing that could make me smile. Often times, I would over work and come home stressed... but as soon as I saw Kimi, it was like nothing else mattered. After a year or so, it became apparent to me that I wanted a child. It was because of Kimi, I had never thought of having children after growing up as harshly as I did.. but my love for her was so strong I wanted to share something precious with her.. and I wanted her to share it with me. Kimi and I decided that we were going to try and have a baby. "No.. NO NO.. NO.. NOOO!" agonizing cries filled the house and left it empty. They were my cries... Kimi had been ill, no one knew, and it killed her in my arms without warning. Chapter 1 "Guilty." The verdict was given and the man beside me would go free. For the last 3 years I've been sitting beside this man. I've fought mindlessly for this mans freedom, is he guilty, or not? I don't know.. my heart wants to believe he's not guilty.. but all this time my mind's been screaming guilty.. maybe that's why I lost. If only he was let free, stamped "Not Guilty." My life would continue the way it has been going.. case after case, mindlessly raking money into my accounts. "Guilty" feels like the jury has stamped me with a life sentence. It's not because I'm worried that this loss will tarnish my reputation.. I have an empire of reputation to lean on. It's that this particular client was, most definitely eccentric and paid me big money to sign a bunch of contracts in case I lost the case. "We've only got to protect them" he said "If you loose, they will loose too and then what will they do?" I guaranteed him that I would win, his case felt strong back then, and despite that, he still had me sign those contracts. I was just thinking about my pocket book.. If only I had known that his case would become so unstable.. and that I would loose faith in his case.. I'm trained to not let it become taxing, to keep my faith in the client, but still.. I lost it and that's never happened before. "See, now they're okay, that contract was a great idea" he said to me all smiles as he stood to be arrested "Too bad that money isn't yours though.." he was taken away. I got up and shook hands with the prosecutor and with a click shut of my briefcase, I presented a small wad of paperwork to the judge, who had been told about the contracts beforehand, in case this situation would come into play. "Alright" he said heavily "They'll be delivered to your estate tomorrow morning sometime" "Thank you" I said and left the court house. Chapter 2 I got home earlier than usual, since it was just the delivery left. I took my shoes off, hung my coat and went to my office. I sat for the rest of the daylight hours and into the evening there at my desk finalizing paperwork and filing away the case in my personal database. As soon as the case file was put on the shelf, I felt myself plummet, the weight of the situation sat in the pit of my stomach all that time and now it was roiling. I took to my bottle quickly and drank all I had, which wasn't a small amount, and stumbled my way to bed. I didn't wake until late afternoon, my head was pounding and my stomach twisted. I think I managed to expel every expensive drop I had drank the night before, and only then I was able to drag myself into the shower and wash away the scent of the night before. When I got out of the shower I took some pills and noticed the time, it was nearly 4pm. Were they delivered and just let loose? I went down the hall and then down the grand staircase, at the door were two suitcases, two sets of shoes and two jackets thrown over the chair.. which is annoying since the coat rack is right next to it. They hadn't ventured far, they were in the sitting room to the right, the bigger boy was slouched over on the couch, asleep, the other was curled next to him stretched out. "Hey, wake up" I jostled the smaller one a little with my foot. The boy's body tensed in stretching out and then relaxed, and looked up at me. "Nnn" was all he could produce. "Get up" he said "and wake the other one up" "Sorry" he said groggily, he had a soft voice, even when he was waking he didnt sound grumpy. The boy shook the other awake "Wake up" "NNN" the other, much grumpier, but despite the drama he stretched and sat up more, cracking his neck. "You're both awake then.. good" I said "Come.." They both got off the couch as fast as they could in their exhausted state and followed me to the entrance. "Hang your coats on the hook" I scolded a little "Grab your stuff and follow me" I started walking without giving them time, they put their coats off in a scramble and dragged their cases up the stairs. "Hey, thanks for putting us up, Sir" the smaller one said "It's my job too, don't thank me.. I dont want you here" that seemed to put them off a little because they stayed quiet until he stopped. "This will be your room, you will share it" he said "Wait, but you have a freakin mansion, you can't spare--" "You WILL share" the older one appeared to have a bit of an attitude. I opened the door now, it was a huge room as it was, with a Queen bed and full furnishing. "There will be a few rules." I said as I lead them into their new hole. "You will go to school, you will come home, you will not bring friends over, weekends, you will be expected to be here studying under tutors" "Wait but that's not--" "Ah!" I stopped him "You are allowed in this room only, you can go to the kitchen if you must, the other rooms, just... don't touch anything" he said "My bedroom and office, are absolutely off limits and you will always address me as Sir or by Mr. Takanaga" They stayed quiet and I left them that way, probably stunned. That's the only interaction I plan on having with those brats. Children are not what I do best. |

Sounds okay. I don't really know what's going on in it though.
Seems like Kimi's death was extremely sudden though, like something more should have been added about it. |

What would be nice, is maybe a little part where she has little symptoms of being sick (like a little cough or so), but instead she brushes it off and insists that she's okay. Then I guess he might notice that she wasn't up for breakfast, and then finds her dead.

so... prologue:
I understand the death of Kimi devestates him, but I fail to see how it connects with the story. in chapter 1: QUOTE "Guilty." The verdict was given and the man beside me would go free. is the guy guilty or not? cause guilty verdicts don't let people go free. for chapter 2: the sudden emergence of the kids seems odd. I had a feeling it had something to do with the contract, but there needs to be setup for it, imo. |
