The audiobooks are most excellent, if it's the length of the book to reak that throws you off. If it's the price, I can guarantee that they're at your library.

At lot of subplots are better explained in the books, plus there are naturally some things that are only in the books or are radically different in the books. Also, knowing what happens can enhance the books in little ways, I love all the tidbits Rowling throws at you. =3

Sure, you do. Does that take away at all? I watched all the movie and read all the books, yet it doesn't bother me. They're presented differently, it's like experiencing it all over again in a new light.

Trust me, if you want to try audio books, do the library or download them. I don't think downloading costs too much, but buying CDs can run a good seventy bucks a book. I should know, I have a nice little audiobook library (I love them <3).

They're about in the $30-$55 range on iTunes. Maybe just getting them at the library is best, if I do decide to give 'em a listen to, but I don't know; I really don't think I'll get into them now that I've seen the movies. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)


Reminds me of Scott Pilgrim. I ended up reading all the books a week before the movie came out, because I knew I'd lose interest in the books if I saw the movie, yet I also knew I'd like the books more. >.>

The audiobooks would help, it's more like a performance. And Jim Dale has one of the best voices for audiobooks. I've listened to at least ten+ people read books and he's one of the absolute best. The guy's won awards, and he can do over a hundred different voices . . .

He is in the US. They got somebody else in the UK. But trust me, he's the best. You wouldn't want Harry Potter done by anyone else. <3

I've only seen one of the Harry Potter movies. The one I saw was before the last one so I obviously have no clue what's going on in the story. It was a good movie. Perhaps I'll get around to renting all of them. I don't think I would bother reading the books, at this point it's been out long enough for me to have gotten a copy of the books and I'm behind so it would be much quicker for me to simply watch all the movies. I must say it was much better than I thought it would be. :) So I can understand people that have been a fan from the start would be very interested in the last movie.

Harry Potter is a wizard *ooh, scary witchcraft! keep your ultra-orthodox tea bagger children away*. He was born to a pureblood wizard (family liniage of wizardry) and a muggle (wizard or witch from a non-magical family). When he was 10, he recieved an acceptance letter to Hogwarts, a Wizarding school (like the Xavier Institute for Mutants in X-Men, but magic based instead of mutant power based). The movies (and books) cover his life and struggles from that point to the time he becomes of age as he tries to prevent the evil wizard, Lord Voldemort, from returning (like Sauron in LOTR). This struggle becomes harder as LV comes back to life and Harry's new mission to kill him.

I know I wen't a little simplistic here, but I'm trying to give a general overview for Tolby.

as a part of harry himeself, no, but it is a imporant theme in all of the books.

In later books, it is important. But since it doesn't come into to major consideration until halfway through the series, I'd say it was unnecessary in a basic explanation.

All you really need to know is that Harry is an apparently normal (if abused) child, though odd things seem to happen to him. When he turns ten, he learns he's really a wizard. He then goes to school to learn how to utilize his newly discovered powers. Over the course of his education, the evil Lord Voldemort begins to come to power. Harry must learn how to stop him.

Voldemort was already in powerful entity, but became more of a threat when he came back to life. The idea of blood purity was present in the first book, although it wasn't apparent to the plot.

another overarching theme was the fact he had his mother's eyes. While completely extraneous when you first hear it, it is important the the overall plot as well.
