So. I've become a little more serious with this whole costume thing, and I've convinced myself that I can do it. I'm still set on Rin Kagamine, and I have a good idea of how I can go about pulling it off. For one, the hair and headphones aren't a problem, and I already have black shorts, buuut. I still would probably have to do some sewing/making parts of the costume myself. Spoon & I made our Halloween costumes two years ago, so I know my way around a sewing machine (for the most part). Plus Spoon's mom oh so conveniently has one, so I can probably persuade her to let me in her house over the coming months to use it, lulz. I just have a fewww questions that I'd like some feedback on, I suppose. Using this as a reference… A. How would I go about making that capelet? I have a basic idea in my head, but I guess I'd need to know for sure how much fabric I'd need. Also wonder how I'd attach it to the top. B. For the arm/leg cuffs, should I use elastic in the upper holes so that it wouldn't screw with my arm? C. For both "bows", should I use the kind of ribbon that's ribbed with wire? .w. So yeah. A suggestion or two would be nice? |

Ey Katie :3
yeah for more cosplayers on the site!!!! ok....how can I help you.... 1.) What is a capelet? I tried looking it up...but my dictionary couldn't tell me....since I don't know what it is...I can't help you with this one for now...maybe you could explain it to me? Is this the "cape"-thingy? if yes.......I would say 50 cm of fabric are enough (with the assumption that fabric lies 1,50m) you apply it like a collar~ so for the shirt make a V-shaped collar (as long as you need it) and then add the cape-thingy. after this you use a smaller squarish piece of white fabric to "close" the neck again. 2.) for the cuffs - yes use elastic in the upper holes 3.) well for the head-bow I would definitly use wire...as for the neck-bow~ you could use wire or you sew the bow double (pocket-like) and insert felt or other stable-cloth-material~ this might work as well.... so uhm....if you have more questions....ask...(IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) it's difficult for me to describe stuff like this in english...but I hope you know what I mean... |

Yes, yes, the cape thingy. I used a made-up word, most likely. I doubt the "cape" itself really has an actual term. Anyway. So, would I have to shape/make the cape/collar itself first and then attach it to the white shirt? I practiced making the same sort of shape of the cape with a small towel, and it kind of worked, but I guess I'd have to get a hold of some actual fabric first. Ohhh, the pocket-bow idea is interesting. I'll have to test it. C: Another thing: On the arm things, how would you suggest attaching the buttons? Some sort of super glue or adhesive agent? |

yes you first shape the cape and then put in the t-shirt :3
my advice~ work with a piece of fabric you wont need anymore if you do this the first time....or news paper~ also if you do the final thingy.....don't sew it in at the first time...use a loose stich and then try the shirt - if everything falls in the right way. if you need help, I could try to make pictures for you of something similar... what buttons on the arm things? *can't see buttons*..... ah...ok saw them.....those "radio button like thingys" right? well buy real buttons and sew them on...there are buttons where you won't see the holes :3 this is the savest thing you can do.... also....I belive I have the pattern for the character you make from a japanese cosplay magazine...if you are intereseted I could send you copy of it.... |

Ah, okay! Thanks for answering my questionsss. :D
Over the next couple months I may have more. We shall see. Ohh, do you? That'd be pretty neat to look at. If it isn't too much trouble and you can find it, I'd be tickled pink to have a look see. c: |

I had no idea there were so many people interested in cosplay on RS (IMG:style_emoticons/default/weirdsmile.gif)
I am too, but I've never actually been to a convention or anything. All the stuff I've done so far has been from the Haruka series, but I've planned to dress as Toona (and my friend as Dahlia) from RF3 someday. (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/rinfin/DSCF5270.jpg) My first handmade almost-finished costume (still needs tweaking)... I changed the skirt to a better one... ooooh man I learned that I hate sewing machines. All my sewing from now on will be done by hand because I'm a complete control freak when it comes to stuff I put on my body. Control > speed, for me. I'm already thinking about remaking this in a more authentic way (traditional kimono construction and fabrics, etc. 'cause I'm a bit of a cultural history enthusiast) and I've never even worn it anywhere yet x_x On the plus side, the jinbaori/vest is so ridiculously heavy (may not look it, but it's like 5 pounds man), and the shoulder guards are so sturdy, that it almost feels like real armor. Makes me feel real cool. (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/rinfin/DSCF5273.jpg) ^ lol fail pinning on that skirt. The crest was totally embroidered by hand... I spent forever on it, but it feels so wonderfully textured. I've got 2 other completed costumes (that were commissioned) of the same character, and then another one which I bought but it's currently in pieces because I wanted to do major alterations on it. Need to get back to that. And then I've got a couple other ones that I have materials for but haven't done anything with. So much incomplete stuff. |
