Some people said a while ago they'd want to play if we did another game of Diplomacy (see link for rules etc.), which is an awesome fun turn-based strategy board game.
Who'd be up for another game? If we could get six or seven players this time it'd be awesome because everyone could have their own country (with six, someone less experienced could get, say, italy and austria). If we get about five people here, I'll ask Lindstrom to host another one. If Lindstrom doesn't wanna do it, or absolutely wants to be a player, I'll do my best at hosting it myself with a little help. I'm hoping for Toaster Boy, Darth and Lenyo again, with the possibility of Saffy and maybe a few others who are here regularly; maybe Katie, Guitar Smasher, ClassicTyler or Christopher? It'd be fun, you'd only have to spend a little while each day analysing the situation and sending your moves in. It'll be a lot more entertaining with a lot of players, because there'll be more alliances and deceptions and stuff. If people really want to play with a fantasy setting, I'll try to come up with an alternative map (drawing & scanning/MS paint), but it'll take a heck of a long time to do it properly. If you're interested, do the poll and sign up. If people want to play, it'll be great fun. |

You had me at "diplomacy" :P
Well, it does sound fun and I'd definitely like to give it a try but what exactly are the rules? It seems like something I can eventually understand but I still can't seem to view the link. |

I'd be willing to try it, even though I'm still slightly confused. I'm sure I'll get it as we play though.

Here are the condensed rules, as well as the whole game manual. Don't be put off by the size of the rules, it's quite simple really :D
QUOTE DIPLOMACY: The New World (IMG:http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/MagicPants/diplomacybanner.png) Become the ruler of your own country! The continent of Liebe (pronounced LEE-beh) is a wonderful place where all sorts of strange things can be found, like the Chocolate Forest, the Waterslide of the Gods, or the Golden Tower. This land is populated with all kinds of people, many of whom would like to unite the continent under their own country. Ask yourself, wouldn't you like to rule this amazing new world? Each player gets a country to rule and can be as creative as they like in designing it, from the name to the color and whatever other details they want to include. For signing up, you get a Lindstrom drawn set of yourself for the game (you don't have to use it if you don't want to of course). If you want, you can even team up with other members to joinly rule your country. The goal of the game is to take over most of the continent of Liebe. HOW TO PLAY After signing up, I assign the players their countries on the map. The game is played like Werewolf in that everyone goes at the same time and is played in rounds. Unlike Werewolf, though, all moves are sent to me in a PM. After I recieve everyone's moves, they all are played out at the same time, and depending on your strategy, you might succeed in taking some more land. - Everyone has land and sea pieces (stars and anchors). Only one unit can be in a region at a time. - Each piece can be issued a command each round. - Each piece has the same strength. To overcome an enemy, you must outnumber them. To defend, gather your troops to back eachother up. - Make alliances with other players to help you achieve your goals, though nothing is set in stone so you can always backstab them and take their land too! - Rounds are the "Morning" and "Night" of each "Day". These "times" apply only to the game world, with each "time" ending after I have received everyone's orders. - Regions with sun symbols on them are called "Power Centers". For each Power Center your country owns at the end of a game day (Night), you gain an additional piece (which you place in the Morning rounds). If you lose them to your enemies, you'll lose pieces. - The game ends when one player has more than half of the Power Centers under their rule at the end of a game day (Night). - If you get confused or stuck, ask me for suggestions or help with understanding the rules better. - Check the map regularly! It gets updated with the latest news. COMMANDS: MOVE: Each unit you have can MOVE to a region that borders where they are currently. Land units (stars) can only move accross land. Sea units (anchors) can move across oceans and into coastal land regions. If you and an enemy MOVE into the same area, you both cancel out eachother's MOVE and keep your original position. SUPPORT: To overcome an enemy, you need another piece to be next to the area you want to take over and SUPPORT the first piece's MOVE. Only by outnumbering the enemy can you overpower them. To defend yourself from being outnumbered, you SUPPORT a piece with nearby pieces. HOLD: The command to "do nothing", cuz sometimes there's nothing good to do. CONVOY: Stuck on an island? You can have land pieces travel accross the ocean if you have sea pieces connecting 2 shores. Pretty useful! To sign up, post your name in BOLD. |

I still don't fully understand it, but that's probably because I haven't played it yet. It does sound like a lot of epic fun so count me in. :D

I would, but I'm afraid of eventually not having enough time to devote to this and then annoying people.
Plus, I probably wouldn't be too good at it anyways since I always seem to take the 'hard way around', and then lose. But have fun to whoever does join in. |

Idlers, you could pair up with someone else who's playing and share a country. That would also help if you weren't sure on the rules.
The basics are, you command a country with a few groups of soldiers. You move the soldiers into other territories to attack them every turn. Taking over a territory with a supply centre gets you more soldiers. If the territory you want is occupied, you need to attack it with a larger force than the defence, which may also be supported by adjacant units. Allies can be used in attack and defence. Naval units can transport land units across bodies of water. Both land and naval units can move to coastal territories. You need a certain number of supply centres to win the game. You'll almost definately need to work with other players, supporting each other's attacks and defences. |

May I point out that this doesn't have to be a daily thing. Obviously the game will go faster the quicker people send their moves in, but in general you'll have about three days to get it all sorted out.
This is why it'll help if people share a country, like I suggest for Idlers. People can fill in for each other and stuff that way, plus it represents trying to run a country more effectively :D Totoro and Twi will hopefully be playing, meaning we'll soon have enough players, so if people like Darth and Toaster want in, we might need some people to share anyway. |

You can indeed rename countries. Christopher, if there are lots of players you can share with me and our country can be Funland.

Yeah, I could host it. Like Werewolf, it's the kind of game you can just pop on, look at what happened, make a move, and leave and everything'll be fine. I think I had written up more concise rules though, if I find them I'll edit your post.

Edited Hasfusel's post above so the rules are much simpler, and I threw in a banner I made a while back for the fantasy theme.

As you can see, Lindstrom's designed a fantasy version loosely based on Rune Factory. This'll be a lot more interesting, although it might be a little while before the map is finalised and everything. When we're all set, Lindstrom can make a proper topic in the Post Games section (or even a subforum, like werewolf, given the number of people playing, with space to discuss strategies and be creative with country background etc. since it's a fantasy), and people can start bolding their names. Then we can start getting countries ready and stuff.
We've now got seven committed players, so any more and people will share countries or I'll drop out and help host it. |

I voted as "Yes" because I wanted to see the results, so don't count me as a committed player when I'm really a committed host. I'll make a thread later, headache

Hold on til we've got the map sorted, it'll be simpler.
Players who are either more experienced or less committed can share if it comes to that. If you're sharing, you'll be making the decisions together, probably with one of you doing the moves and the other guy giving advice or sending in moves when the other guys's unavailable. |
