Are you good at public speaking, or using persuasive language techniques on lots of people etc.? Do you tend to get into heated discussions with people much, and if so what about?

I'm pretty awesome at public speaking, persuasive language, etc. but I wouldn't describe myself as getting into heated discussions much. The trick is having a good understanding of all things possibly related to whatever you're discussing, because a lot of times your "opponent" is running on speculation rather than fact.

Six people from the mansion in which you have been all staying for the past few days are discovered dead at dawn in a small chapel, seated around a dining table. Apon first examination, their bellies appear to have been partially carved out, with the stomach and part of the guts missing. The cavities were then stuffed with various wrapped confections. There is no other visible cause of death. All died instantly, probably at the same time, and were moved to their positions at the table after death. The last time the victims were sighted was when they were talking together the previous evening. The chapel was locked at the time of discovery. There are only three suspects; two servants and a rich woman, one of your fellow companions at the mansion. Everybody else has an alibi; however, it is highly unlikely that more than two people participated in the crime. In addition, the only key that opens the door was discovered inside the room. There are no duplicates, and the door is the only way for a person to go in and out of the room; there are no hidden entrances.
The only windows to the chapel are too small to admit a body.
Could this crime have been committed by human means, or is it impossible? If so, explain how the crime could have possibly been committed.

A good detective is never on break. The answer was small bombs and the key thrown back through the window, or evil robot Santa.

Favourite zombie film/game?

Vagrant Story, definitely. It's like if Shakespeare wrote Lost and filled it with zombies. Basically, anyone who dies in the town the game takes place in has their soul wander the city for all eternity and if they find a dead body they can hop right in and become a zombie. I think they said if the zombie gets killed the soul is killed too, either that or I guess they just keep wandering.

How do you feel about the Arizona immigration law?

Seen/read Battle Royale? Awesome martial arts/survival thriller, which as well as being wonderfully uninhibited is also interesting psychologically and stuff.

Also, do you enjoy South Park or do you find it crass and stupid?

I haven't looked too deeply into it but I've been told it's basically racial profiling, which is always dumb. I've also heard it's being heavily protested so there's a decent chance it won't be passed or whatever it's status is.

Sounds familiar but I don't think I've seen it. I love kung-fu films but for whatever reason they don't sell many where I am.

Sometimes it's pretty damn clever, other times it's predictable and tries for a cheap laugh with the blood and guts humor which doesn't really get me laughing.

Well, the martial arts isn't the main feature but there's a lot of it. I've read the book, am reading the manga version (not as good and more expensive besides) and plan to watch the film pretty soon. I'd recommend the book since the film will probably be really watered down.
It's set in a near-future Asian Commonwealth dictatorship, where as part of a recurring military test a class of 42 college students are placed in a large, confined environment such as an island or prison, are each allocated a random weapon and some supplies and are told to kill each other until one remains, presumably to see how people's attributes come out and how they react to different situations, etc etc. It's interesting as well as entertaining, and the story is good. It's something like Lord of the Flies crossed with Clockwork Orange.

I bought Vagrant Story online, by the way. Should be fun when it arrives.

How many Harvest Moon games have you played? You don't really seem like the type.

It is racial profiling! I'm thinking the law won't pass, either. There are supposed to be a lot of marches today.

Have you ever participated in a march?

Vagrant Story is definitely a "hate it or love it" game. I don't think I've ever met anyone who's played it and felt somewhere in the middle about it. The story is probably the best video game story ever written (not that that says much, but I'd only compare it to Final Fantasy Tactics and Mother 3 in terms of writing quality). Honestly, you could adapt it into a movie/play/book without trouble and it would still rock. Remember to save often, being on the receiving end of a critical hit tends to kill you in one shot.

I've played the original which I've had since it's release, HM 64 which I also got at release, and Magical Melody, which my on-and-off girlfriend over the years bought for like $5, which was cool at first but eventually got kind of stale. Also, Rune Factory Frontier which I was very happy with, since there's so much more to do.

Nope, unless you count parades. Parades are pretty cool.

Is it really true that if you drink too much (like a lot of water) at once, you could die?

Yeah, but we're talking like, gallons. Too much of anything will kill you, really. In the case of water I believe it would rupture your stomach or something, but you'd have to force yourself to drink so much and manage not to throw it up.

I was just trying to find out information about one of the newer HM games and figured I'd register for the hell of it. At some point or another Jason asked me if I would moderate.

Wouldn't it be crazy expensive trying to hook up ocean thermals with generators? How are you trying to achieve this?

A pipe takes hot surface water and flash evaporate it, run it through a turbine, then condense it using cold bottom water. Makes electricity and distilled water, which we can put into fuel cells and ship as hydrogen.

Awesome plan. Using the cold water to condense it is a great idea. How do you get negate the effect of the pressure from being so deep, though? Surely the equiptment would just get crushed.
Also, would it be possible to somehow use the heat from ocean thermals to desalinise sea water for bottling? It'd save having to use fossil fuels or electricity to evaporate the water.

It's only the pipe that goes down 1000 meters, the bigger problem is preventing fatigue and biofouling. Anyway, distilled water isn't as good for drinking as it would be electrolysis as you want some minerals in your water. Either way there are a variety of options.

Modified Rankine cycle?

Apparently there was supposed to be an experiment at my school sometime lately where they'd try to maximize efficiency through superheating the water, or something to that effect. Don't know what came of it, although my thermo professor talked liked it was going to be a little risky.
