As the title above says.
Anyway, I really love art AND storytelling. I've been wanting to do something that requires both. I don't want to become a writer, unlike my brother (writing his first novel), more of a manga artist, because I get to tell my story through pictures. But being a game designer, or a director or animation was my second options. Shigeru Minamoto and Hiyao Miyazaki have really cool jobs. They both tell stories, create and design characters and settings, and make a product that enjoyable for lots of people. (And I bet they make loads of money doing it~ ;) ) So what do you want to be? Are there specific people you look up to? |

I would like to be a veterinary technician, also known as veterinary nurse. I love animals, and I know from caring for my cats when they get sick that I would really enjoy this job. I've always wanted to work with animals; it's the only job I've ever really wanted. I considered writing and some other stuff, but . . . I really, really want to work with animals in some way, shape, or form. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinary doctor, but I changed to veterinary technician in recent years.
See, if I'm a veterinary doctor I'll be doing more brief examinations, diagnosing, and possibly surgeries and stuff. I don't want to do that kind of thing, it sounds boring. But if I become a veterinary technician I'll be doing treatments, taking notes, monitoring the animals, and all kinds of hands-on stuff and record keeping stuff. Now that sounds awesome. I'm a little worried I might have some trouble in a medical-type field, but that's what clinicals are for. I'm also vaguely considering a few other animal-related jobs - or trying to, anyway. I also want to get a zoology degree, and maybe go into research or something. My plan right now is to finish a vet tech degree, get a job, and use the money from that job to pay for getting a zoology degree. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) Edit: Just realized how misinterperted research could be. I meant field research, like going out and studying animals in the wild. |

This question has always killed me. What do you want to do when you grow up? Eh I've so far have narrowed this down slightly and it's always changing. I have it narrowed down to Farmer, Ag Engineer, and Vet. Now I know what your thinking. Farmer? What the h-e-l-l-o operator is HMR been smokin? Well it really is kind of my back up plan/ secondary job. I live on a farm n my dad lived on a farm, granted he built his off a piece of land different than my grandpa has, but farming has been in my family for generations. We don't work with live stock or anything though, just crop farming. Vet is a tad higher on my list, since I like animals and can oddly get along with most easily. Of course the only thing holding me back from that is having to put an animal down, and giving an animal a c-section. Watched a video of a group of vet students and their teacher giving a c-section to a cow. Not that pretty... Ag engineering seems like an interesting field to me too, but is the hardest to get into job wise. They make a pretty good amount of money (I believe wages are 80 thousand to 100 thousand dollars a year? Not sure) and these guys are the ones that come up with your everyday agricultral equipment, such as tractors etc. After listing all of this you guys probably just found out something you didn't expect, and that's that I'm actually a bit of an ag/ farm nerd (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I think vet techs do more of the actual 'putting down' than the veterinary doctor. At least, that's what happened when my cat was put down. The doctor was present, but it was the tech who did the injection. I've been concerned about that as well. But I honestly know that it's for the best when an animal is suffering, and it's much more humane than forcing the animal to live in pain or die slowly. It also helps that I think people with terminal illnesses should be given that choice, but that's a whole other subject so I won't talk about that. >_>

I just don't have it in me to kill an animal, humane or not I couldn't do it really. Now if the animal is in serious pain I'd do it since well better for it to die than to live in excrutiating pain, but still. I do have other ideas rather than those too, but as of now those are the major ones.

I'm currently studying to be an aerospace engineer. My specific stream of study is aerodynamics and propulsion systems, so what I end up working in could be a number of things. My plan is to get my master's degree, but I'll be at a minimum 24 years old when I start the master's, so we'll see if I'm still interested. So far I enjoy very much what I study, it feels very comfortable, like I shouldn't be doing anything else.

I want to be a pirate
Or failing that, just rich. Perhaps I will exploit the proletariat, perhaps I will make a living chopping down rainforests. Naaaah, riches are for scrooges and ducks. I'll be content with a low paid job as long as I'm doing something useful, such as working for the Greens or educating impoverished children or whatever. |

For years I had known exactly what I wanted to do in life. Now, I feel completely unsure of where I want to go. Should I fall back on the desires I had prior? Should I find a new path in life? Should I go and see what happens?
I just don't know anymore. All I know is I have to move away from position I am in now. |

I don't really have much clue about what I want to do later on. Or rather, I can't pick out of a bunch of ideas. A lot of people want me to become an engineer or an artist, and Mom thinks I could be a good lawyer. They all perk some interest in me - I love sciences, math, art, and law, and I'm a bit interested in medicine too. I s'pose I'll see what comes from all this at some point really soon.

I'm feeling the same way you are Jitter. I love telling stories and drawing, and that's why I think I would really enjoy doing something in the "Videogame Development" catagory. The thought of people taking their time to enjoy something that I created gets me excited. I'm actually going to be taking a computer art class next year, which I am very excited for.
There were those times where I thought it will be impossible for me to ever even have the chance to get anywhere with a skill like tht, but the other day in the local newspaper there was an article about how these ten students at a nearby college created a game as a project, and it was so good that they are actually going to San Fransisco (sorry spelling?) to present it to some company. This gave me hope that I could end up getting somewhere. |

Well, I want to get a master's in social work, and then I'll climb the ladder and get a doctorate. I plan to specialize in children, adolescents, and possibly women. Basically, my mission is to help victims of domestic abuse and poverty. I want them to have a greater future. And, while I realize the system is not perfect and I won't always "win" my cases, I'm willing to bust my behind to help those who cannont help themselves. I'll be the best social worker I can be.

Is a doctorate not a little overkill for a social worker? I can't imagine any city/state agency hiring someone that overqualified.

It could be overkill, but it opens of the option of being a professor, as well. Universities tend to look for those credentials.
I have no worries about getting a job in a firm. It's about being the best I can be, opening up more options, and perhaps starting my own firm one day. |
