Can anyone give me tips on how to get lumber quick and easy? Need 300 pieces for 3rd level house and material stone won't be a problem. Keep in mind I have all first level tools, no upgrades yet. Suggestions?

Essentially, upgrade the darn axe. You pretty much need to to be able to get wood at a decent rate and not burn up energy too much.

Hmm well I was thinking that, but the highest I know I can get it is to silver, and I have no clue where good spots are to find silver, and don't want to waste too much time looking for it.

Even copper will be a dramatic improvement.

True, any well known spots where either ore is very common? Or atleast moderately common.

Guess I'll go for copper then, cheaper and easier to find. Do tool upgrades take days to make like they did in old games? Or are they instantly ready after you pay and turn in supplies?

Positive it's instant. I don't remember any issues like "man, I can't water my crops for a week now."

It is instant. But you have to have 3 of each metal, and you have to go in order. So you have to have iron before copper, and copper before silver. You can't just jump from old ax to silver ax. And yes, it is very very very expensive to fully upgrade everything.

I mean, HMR, if you have eaten a majority of the power berries and your health bar is long enough, it's practical to down about three trees per day.

Hint! Cutting down a tree with the original axe takes 24 swings. As soon as you hit the tree the 24th time, RUN AWAY. Logs will not appear under your feet otherwise. Usually, this can yield the maximum of 8 logs per tree. Do not bother with the stump! It takes too much extra effort for just one lousy log.

Material stone is easy enough to acquire, easier than lumber in my opinion. Fugue Forest is a goldmine for both, and collecting mushrooms while you're there to recover stamina is a great idea. :]

Yup, that's how it goes.

An easier way is to enter the foraging contest at the new years festival. If you pick up stuff like crazy, then you're a shoo in for winning. The grand prize is 600 lumber.

So I need iron first... >.< Well atleast it's common. I think I'm only gonna upgrade it to bronze and the foraging contest sounds good for the final house upgrade, but I'd preferably want 3rd before winter starts. Also I have been avoiding stumps and just choppin down trees, but the whole move out of the way thing is a nice tip that I didn't know about, and I don't even remember how many power berries I have, the most recent one I remember getting was for getting the heart meter maxed on an animal.

I just know that mine is hecka long. I don't remember all the berries there are. XD;

And that whole run-away was an experiment for me--I realized I wasn't getting anything done just standing there as wood piled around me. It's a neat trick, and works a good majority of the time. I just recently got the 3rd upgrade from having a mantra of going into the forest every morning, cutting down three+ trees or busting a lot of boulders, then eating my spouse-prepared lunch to recover and work more.

Another question, how do I unlock more pet tricks? I have the collie and it's still at LV 1 trick, so do you just have to do that trick alot or does it have something to do with amount of hearts?

They go up every 9 or 10 days. Just do a trick with them every day, and it'll go up. You don't really even have to take them on walks or anything. Just continue to do tricks.

Katie: I attack the trees. Seriously. I wait until there's barely any life left in me, and then start stuffing mushrooms in my mouth, or food, or whatever I have that's edible on me. I do that as much as I can. Luckily, getting material stones is waaaay easier than getting lumber.

Just wait until you're trying to upgrade to Goddess. Those dang rare ore are... rare. I once spent three days collecting about 15 of them, then went and had them appraised by Mira, and got 2 stinkin' metal out of them!!!
