Not sure if there's a topic on reading already, but I'll make the assumption that there isn't.
How often do you read? What was the last book you read? Any great suggestions? I've gotten into reading recently which is quite new to me. I used to really hate it because no books really interested me. I found most of what was around was fantasy which I simply did not care for. However, I've always been into writing and felt it was a necessity that I start reading - if not just to pick up on new skills. So I decided to pick up The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which I had purchased about two years ago and never finished. For the past three days I've done at least an hour of reading every night, and have just finished reading the book. Quite an accomplishment for me so now I'm on a bit of a high. I intend to read the read the next book in the series, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I will likely go pick it up the next time I visit Chapters. Your turn. Go! |

I don't read all that much, but a book if your looking for something mildly funny would be a book I believe it's called is More Information Than You Need To Know. Something along those lines, my friend's little brother got it a while a back and parts of it a pretty great, explaining how to cook an owl would probably be one of the things that stuck out in it to me. 1. Look it straight in the eyes while killing it.
2. Remove the thing that makes it purr. 3. Take out it's inner clock work. 4. Sacrifice 100 goats to Athena. 5. Cook it like you would cook a crow. |

Owls don't purr.
I read a lot, alternating between stuff for school that I'll need to know later in college like philosophy, psychology, science, politics etc, graphic novels and fantasy/literature plus the occasional manga. I used to be a huge fan of the massive epic Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, as well as other fantasy authors like Raymond E. Feist, Terry Pratchett and David Eddings. My favourite authors are Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore, while the best books I have ever read were Hannibal and Watchmen. At the moment I'm reading the Sandman series, which is fantastic. |

I'm not much of a bookworm, but I enjoy a little reading from time to time.
Right now I'm in the middle of To the Last Man, which (so far) is a really good WWI book. I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd, but my favorite book has to be the Catcher in the Rye. I read once in 7th grade, but I didn't really like it. Picked up again last year for English class, and I fell in love with it. |

I enjoyed Life of Pi a lot. I'm disappointed that M. Night Shyamalan canceled the movie :(

I read just about every other day.
The last Book I read, was Fallen by Lauren Kate. You know how Twilight is popular and such? Well Fallen was a lot better than Twilight. like really. It was. Picking it up and reading it, I never expected to to contain the content it did. I thought it wouldn't have mythological things in it but it did! it keeps you wondering how is this possible? and what will happen next? since the book ends with the biggest cliff hanger I have ever seen, It really makes me mad because I realllllly wanna know whats gonna happen next. So with that, I recommend you read it. It's nothing like Twilight so you don't have to worry about "sparkling vampires" for that matter, or any vampires at all. :) if you wanna know the main story to it, ask and I will tell you!! :) and I am read at the moment Shadowland which is the third book in the Immortal Series :D |

I finished reading Demian a while ago. It didn't really have any concepts or references to things that were foreign to me, but the way they were presented felt really profound.
Not sure what I'm going to read next. |

I'd like to attempt Infinite Jest. It'll have to wait until the summer, though.

I'm about halfway through my third book in the past month. I've been reading through The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series which I've come to really enjoy. I have another book waiting for me to read soon too.

This topic definitely needs more love <3
I've gotten myself into Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes recently. I've always meant to read it, and I honestly can't see what ever kept me back. The writing style is to die for, and I absolutely love this genre! I got my hands on the two volumes of all the Sherlock Holmes novels and stories and it's all very exciting to read. Wanting to savour it though, I've been willing myself to read it nice and slow. It's all so simply glorious. |

So I've never been a fan of the books we have to read for our English classes, but we are just finishing up To Kill a Mockingbird. It is tremendous. It is about a young and boyish girl named Scout who has to live her life in the South during The Great Depression.
Now with historical books, I usually really don't enjoy, but this book just seems to have some kind of charm. I find myself at times reading ahead of the class. |

I was thinking of mentioning that book as well. So far it is a wonderful book. No wonder it's won awards! We're also reading it in class.

It is! I'm about 70 pages from the end, and I just want to finish it, but we started reading outloud in class, and it gets annoying rereading at a slow pace with the teacher...

The rest of my class simply loathe it. It's awful having to deal with the slow pace and the distractions to boot.

Same here. That's why it's a pain to have to read outloud. To be honest, based on my class of about 30 students, I wouldn't be surprised if I found out I was the only one who has been reading it.
