I just got an HDTV and I plugged my Wii into the TV, all ready to play, but I was a bit mad that the picture quality is sort of jagged. Like not as crisp and clear, I guess?

I heard there's a component cable for the Wii by Nintendo and was wondering if anybody has it?
Does it help?

There is another cable you can get as I surely used to have it. I don't recall what it was, but I believe it was only S-video at best =\ Honestly, I didn't notice that much of a difference from how I play now with standard composite cable on the exact same tv.

Remember that video you showed me, Oscar? That talked about all the new releases for the Wii, and had more info about Zelda Spirit Tracks? I think the guy they were talking to said that they weren't really gonna do HD Wii. I could be wrong. But now that you bring it up, I have a few games on the Wii that are WiiWare Demos, and I have to squint to read the words. I mean, my TV isn't THAT small! I don't even know if I could read them if I moved my Wii back into the living room with the big TV. And the reason I bring this up, is because my friend came over to my house with her PS3, and one of the games, I had the same problem with the words. She said it was because I didn't have an HD TV/cable. So, maybe the WiiWare stuff IS supposed to be for HD things...? I dunno. It doesn't make any sense.

Saffy: I just recently saw some video on someone playing Zelda with component cables and then later playing with composite cables and I gotta say, the color really improves with component cables. I think that's about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

Zen: Oh yeah, I don't think they're going to make a Wii HD, but the next console will probably be in HD? Ahh, I haven't tried out any WiiWare games on my new TV, maybe you're right. But I think the Wii cannot play games in HD, so I dunno either. Haha! I ordered the component cables, though.

Some WiiWare games are designed by 3rd parties, intended for Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3, so they may have underestimated the effect a lower quality would have on the readability of text. Anyway, there will never be a Wii HD, but the next Nintendo console (many years down the road) will be HD.

As mentioned, the component cables will allow for 480p output. You have to enable it in the Wii system menu. That's the best you'll do with Wii.

Different people at Nintendo have said that the next console they'll release will be HD. However it won't be a "WiiHD" as all the analysts are making up. Nintendo's stance is that there needs to be a more significant development in what they can do with a game console before they'll release a new one.

Good. I think it's dumb when they just release the same console with only a few minor difference. (*cough, DSiandDSlarge(?), cough*)

Those aren't new systems. Those are revisions. They play the exact same games, with the exception of a few specialized ones.

You're not actually 15 are you? I don't think this forum is age-protected so I don't know why you would lie...

Yeah I know. I think that's dumb. That's what I said. >->

So, I figured out what was wrong with my Wii. When I put my Wii back in my room, I forgot to change the settings back to 4:3. xDDD That explains so much.

I have my Wii with the component cables. Yep, folks. It's still as ugly as sin.

Next-gen, Nintendo promised a HD capable system with better online too.
Let's wait it out. This gen will be over soon.

Why do you think its dumb? I think it's nice that they stick with the current format, while releasing revisions that might attract new customers. I wouldn't like it if they just dropped the DS line altogether in favour of a new system, at least while I find it premature.

Is it weird that I like the Wii's graphics and will be sad to see its generation go?

Guitar: Because, I've always found it aggrivating that I'll buy a DSLite, and then as soon as I get one, they come out with a new DS. It's annoying that as soon as you can get the new thing, they come out with a new one with more 'shiny' features. Why not save these features up for the next console? :\ I dunno. It just annoys me.

I don't find it ugly at all. High Definition means nothing when your art direction is uninspired. So a game might look more realistic, it doesn't mean it looks more interesting necessarily. I do enjoy many of the low-budget games that wouldn't exist if HD was mandatory.

I'm having lots of fun with my Wii, I just wish Nintendo would be releasing more games now, as well as 3rd parties.

I bought a DSLite a week before the DSi came out. Didn't bother me because I knew I'd never use the camera, and I would have to spend like 50 more bucks anyway. Point is that my DSLite was tailored to my preferences, and someone who would prefer a DSi wouldn't have to wait years until the next system is released.

Tyler: I got the component cables and it looks a bit better than before. It's not ugly, everything is just much brighter! The games look pretty much the same. There are a few jagged edges, but those are really easy to overlook.

Those are exactly my sentimonies. Every Xbox 360 and PS3 game look the same to me, though a lot of 3rd party Wii games look pretty crappy.
