Well, two nights ago we found out my aunt has cancer in her lungs and liver and that it's very advanced.

She's been sick for about 6 months now and has lost an extreme amount of weight and she was veeery skinny to begin with. They told her she had pneumonia and sent her home and well, she didn't get better.

They still have some tests and biopsies to do until they figure out what kind of cancer it is and how they will treat it.
My dad talked to her again last night after calming himself down and she said she's trying to be positive and she's eatting all the right foods in hope that'll help a bit.

We also got an email from her best friend {who actually helped my aunt's ex husband when he had cancer last year} and she's being really helpful and her and her friends are going to start a fundraiser for her.. Which she doesn't know about yet.
But she has lots of friends that visit her everyday now, she's not working since she got laid off the same day she was diagnosed.

And now my dad is going nuts because he's already lost his father, best friend, last uncle, brother in law, his other friend is going for heart surgery soon and then now his last sister. I really don't know how much more he can take of this.

So everyone out there... STOP SMOKING! I know right now I'm begging my mom to quick but they don't seem to care which is hard.

So, has anyone else had cancer in their families? How did you handle it? Did treatment work for them? Are they survivors now?

My youngest grandmother had breast cancer 3 years ago and she survived . I really didn't know anything about it until it was over. My mother helped her through it and went to all the chemo and now that I think about it,it's wicked sad. ;w;

But yes,goodluck to your aunt.

Both my parents have cancer. My mom's doctor thinks he caught hers in time and right now we're waiting for her to get a second minor surgery in February to hopefully get rid of all of it. My dad's cancer didn't get caught in time and now there's not much they can do other then some pills to keep it from spreading even more. They only work until the cancer becomes resistant to them though, so we don't know how long he has, but he's doing alright for now.
As to how we handled it my mom asked for prayers from people. It seemed to help, Dad's diagnose was pretty bad to start with, they said he had a few months and that was two years ago. And Mom's has hopefully been cured, or will be in a couple of months.

I really hope your aunt gets better.

My grandma had breast cancer a couple years ago, they didn't catch it all that early, but they did get it in time so that she survived and is still fine today. I was pretty young, so I didn't really understand it too much at the time.

I don't know if you are religious or not, but I will certainty pray for your aunt tonight. I hope she gets better!

My grandmother suffered with breast cancer for a long time. She had gone through multiple operations and was often in the hopsital to the point it became a regular occurrence. One week back in 2003 my mother received a phone call from her saying she had just two months at most to live. I remember her crying hysterically. In reality, my grandmother died the next weekend in her sleep.

To make matters worse, there was a SARS outbreak at the time. Very few people were allowed in the hospital, so only my grandfather got to see her.

My father has also suffered with cancer recently. Last year he had gone in for surgery on his liver. The doctor called us that night to tell us he didn't think my father would live past the weekend. He also threw in that my dad's liver was the worst he had ever seen - this coming from a liver doctor! That was just absolutely devastating to go through. Thankfully, my dad is still alive today though. His cancer seems to have gone away completely, but there's still fear it might one day return. He has been taking better care of himself though, and hasn't drank alcohol since starting his chemotherapy. I'm glad he's still here.

Of course, his cancer was not without a price. My family has become very financially strapped since then. He had to leave his job, and now relies on government benefits, some of his pension, and so forth. My mom is now the only one working to support our family of four. (My older brother moved out a few years ago.) It's quite depressing. I know she's very bothered by the turn of events, and I wish I could contribute some.

My grandma has had breat cancer multiple times, but I was too young to understand. She's overcome it every time. A lady at my church had lung cancer for a long time; it's now been five years that she's been without it. Which is nice. However, my grandpa had lung cancer. They couldn't opperate because of his heart (he'd already died on the table once), and he eventually passed away this past March. But I'll pray for your aunt tonight. :]

My mom has had colon cancer, but it was caught in the VERY early stages, so she's been in remission for a while. It terrified me, but I tried to deny it's existance, and live every day like it never happened to her. It was better for me that way.

My paternal grandfather also had liver cancer and it spread right through him, more than likely because he was a drunk throughout his adult life. I loved him, but I didn't know him all that well, so it was only painful at first, but nonetheless, I would never wish that on anyone. D:

My great aunt had breast cancer, but she got a mastectomy and she's been in remission for a while, so I'm glad, because I love her so much. <3

I'm very sorry for all of you who have lost loved ones to cancer. And, I'm sorry for all of you that are going through the ordeal of having a loved one suffer from cancer. I honestly feel your pain. My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you guys.

I can't believe how many people have atleast someone with some form of cancer, it's horrible.

I'm glad to see though that there are a lot of cases that go into remission. It's good to be optimistic but you also have to be aware that at any moment it can turn bad.

I really hope all your family members get better. :(
