finally got the game after waiting almost a year...

load the game up and noticed that the wii remote warning screen looks awfully stretched... still hoping there's some in-game menu option or something as this is usually a system-wide setting but no luck... can't believe a 2008 game doesn't have this.

that and the choppy framerate was a bitter surprise after playing RF frontier which was definitely something else (I know it's kind of an unfair comparison but still) named the farm "choppy" after this...

Technicalities apart... this one's so much better than ToT that one can't help thinking all of us who got ToT should be entitled to this one at reduced cost, a rebate or something (kinda like the Win7>Vista thing)

other minor and not so minor annoyances:

- harvest "god" was changed to "king" so it's now Religiously Correct (same as PC but aimed toward religious nuts, guess I can see them saying there is/can only be one god... let's sue marvelous and natsume a la rockstar) yet the goddess' still a goddess :P... why oh why...

- removed some alcohol stuff (like RFF but not as bad, though)...

- "cleaned up" dialogues... Luna doesn't sound like her anymore...

- some dialogue it's waaaay cornier now (yes, it's possible).

- livestock riding issues: when you get off an animal and enter the house, or the fugue forest (not sure about the mines) it automatically enters the barn leaving you stranded, then when you whistle, you get another animal, especially annoying when you get on the horse which is very fast... get off it and do whatever and when you whistle to get back on it... you're on a cow or sheep (just a bit faster than running by yourself)...

p.s.: fall 16th and 5 bells. so far so good.

Luna was changed to make more sense across the board; she was noticeably politer than I expected in the Japanese version.

The fact that there are separate Animal Taxis to take you to Kaval Meadow and Tamtam Forest (... so I'm not quite ready to give up the names yet, okay?), but none to take you to the Garmoni Mine District. >> Sure, it worked in my favor, 'cause I could go gift the Witch early in the morning in no time at all, but it's pretty much useless unless you're marrying her (or trying to befriend her for some other reason).

The Animal Racing game feels rushed. There's nothing for the nunchuck to do, and yet you can't disconnect it from the Wii Mote. I'm sure that's how one of my nunchucks was torn up. (It'll hardly connect anymore.) I know it's a small minigame, but still...

yeah... I would've put the nunchuck to use as the boost (riding crop/whip)
as it is, mine always ends up on the floor...

Mine occasionally gets slammed against the wood siding of my bed, which doesn't help anything. Besides that, the winner is normally the person that gets in front at the beginning, unless they run out of stamina at some point. (At least from my experience.) Once, I actually went against Sheep and a Goat (There may have been an Ostrich, too.) with a horse and lost. Can't remember the exact placing. I only have one nunchuck that will not "disconnect" itself from the Wii Remote out of 3, but one of them had issues before AP.

In my opinion, the controls should have been:

Nunchuck- Wiggle the nunchuck to speed up and use the control stick to go left or right.
Wii Remote- Press A to whip.

Or just let us take the nunchuck off while we race.

Chase is a jackass.

Luna is a beanpole.

Owen is a bobble head.

Natsume took out the wi-fi features.

I got used to the frame rate issues though.

Mine would be the animal racing and the constant poison gasses and sickness gasses you find in the mine.
And I hate how every couple days in Winter, you have rocks and boulders all over your plot.

I hate that to get lumber (which you end up needing a LOT of) you have to use up half your stamina to cut a tree down, then cut the stump, then cut all the sticks, and after watering my crops cutting down a tree just so I can upgrade my house nearly makes my character faint.

Mine would be how time passes in the game and I've complained about it before. I think it goes by too slow and it makes the days drag on a bit. If time didn't stop when you used a tool or went inside I'd be fine with it but I use tools a lot and time is at a standstill for majority of the time.

I also think that with the way time moves it makes things like getting villager heart levels up seem like it takes forever. I swear I've been giving Jin herb teas for a while now and he just got to 2 hearts. And if the item is not loved then you might as well forget it.

I actually don't find the day lengths to be such an issue. At first I was really put off that each days take 45 minutes to an hour. But after a while, I find I manage to get a lot done and that I'm rarely standing around doing nothing. I can get my days down to 30 minutes if I really try.

I am kind of irritated with the day length. But for the most part, I'm alright with it. Although I do wish that time kept running inside. It's more realistic, I think. And that time stops momentarily with tool-use. But otherwise, I'm pretty enamored with the game!

My guess is that time stopping during tool use is probably to prevent bugs. Similarly, there's a lot more coding to be done if time were to pass while you were inside. They were likely just making the game easier to code.

That makes sense. I can see the logic in that. Like before, it's not really a huge deal or anything. I've found a way to "speed" time, which I'll do if I just want to get to a certain time.

That just sounds like laziness to me. So they might have to code a few things. They try to prevent things and then we get things like frame rate drops. Anyways what is this trick you have of speeding up time Cheerio? I'm interested.

It's not laziness. To have time running indoors would require events for every possible place when you should not be inside anymore. The people would need to kick you out of the house. It doesn't sound like much, but it's still a fair bit of work. As for tools, like I said, it could have been buggy and stopping time momentarily may have been a quick fix. I call in HM64 you could go to the hot spring and if times right, end up naked in your house the next day. Lots of bizarre things happen when dealing with a time system, so I feel they were justified in their actions. And really, is it even that big a deal? I'd just like time to go a bit faster.

I still call laziness. It would be one thing if they've never made time pass in doors before but they have and everything you said was done fine in it including the whole events where the villagers kick you out. And how could using tools and still having time pass be buggy when to the best of my knowledge every single Harvest Moon game before this had no problems doing it.

And no its not a big deal but I feel like I shouldn't be done watering my entire field of crops and taking care of my animals before 6:30.

I highly doubt it's laziness at all. Programming takes a lot of time. There are many occasions where a simple task might end up turning into days to sort out. Other times features can be implemented without much difficulty or time at all.

From my memory, A Wonderful Life is the only game (collection) to offer time passing indoors. That's just how the game was created though. Animal Parade is significantly different and likely uses a different engine altogether. Depending on how the game was coded, I can quite easily imagine complications arising. Furthermore, there's no real need to have time pass indoors other than it speeding up the day. It doesn't add to the game in any significant way.

As for tools stopping time, it could be buggy. You might do something while time is passing which could trigger other time-related events such as those bringing you to bed. It happens. As I already stated, Harvest Moon 64 had a glitch where you could be a naked torso floating in the air. Quite creepy. That's not to say they couldn't work around it, but I can quite easily see complications arising. Didn't Kozunai already say there was a glitch when someone enters a shop while you're talking to them? Issues like that could have happened.

I do a lot of programming myself and I honestly don't think its laziness in anyway. You have to deal with deadlines and priorities. Sometimes these simple fixes could be the solutions to very disastrous problems.

ToT has time pass indoors everywhere but your house. Seems it would run on a similar engine to AP.
I like having the time freeze indoors, though. >>

You can speed up time a bit, by the way, by repeatedly casting your fishing rod into the water and quickly withdrawing it. It makes ten minutes pass every time you cast, no matter how long it's in the water.
At least, you could in the Japanese version. But I doubt Natsume would mess with that bit of coding.
