Is it wrong to stand up for yourself even if it's to say, your boss or just anyone who is above you?

I believe the follow up was "You're their biggest seller", followed by "Oh yeah? Well, I had sex with your wife!" and then "His wife's in a coma".
Shitty bosses are like, the #1 people you gotta stand up to. Besides, worst case scenario is you get fired or something and just have to find another job, which isn't that bad really when you're still working for minimum wage. |

Describe and analyse Plato's Allegory of the Cave (The Republic, Book VII), with particular reference to the shadows, and comment on its relevance in the modern world. (30)

What note of guitar string should I garotte Lil Wayne with for making a perfectly fine instrument sound so annoying?

You mean the one where the people are chained to a wall in a cave and they can only see shadows dancing from the light of a fire, but above them are people who are making these shadows, and then outside the cave are people who have found truth? It's been many years since I've read it so I might be off a little, but basically the shadows are the misconception of how we perceive the world, and outside the cave is truth. When compared to the modern world, the shadows could be seen as the news and media we are exposed to, which give us a distorted sense of the world, with the truth being something we find on our own. That's not to say news and media are lies, but that you don't truly understand what's going on simply because you watch 60 Minutes.
Additionally, you could say modern Industry bears similarity to the allegory, in that a great deal of products and services, from entertainment (music, movies, etc) to utility (cars, computers, etc.) have become formulaic and stale, copied and marketed in "cookie-cutter" fashion in an attempt to best cash in on little creativity and innovation. The shadows are the products, the chained people are the consumers, and the people by the fire making the shadows are the Industry. The people who escape the cave can return with new, fresh content that make the shadows seem boring, meaningless, or undeserving of attention. The Industry will try to mimic this new content, which, depending on how well they do, might make them temporarily successful. However, as they do not possess the capability for innovation, they can only try to milk the original idea for all that it's worth and hope the chained people buy into these new shadows for as long as possible. If you like, I can provide specific examples in music, movies, TV, video games, automobiles, or computers. Why don't you just shoot him? |

Shoot him? And let him live eternally in rap with 2Pac and L and Biggie? The last thing we need is a Lil Wayne tribute album.
Or can we set him on fire? |

Then brainwash him, and make him lose credibility. That way no one will care.

Sounds like a good plan, actually. How many shots should be fired into the air beforehand to intimidate him?

You just have to use a tranquilizer dart, no warning/intimidation shots.

Do you know how badly I want to change the name of your topic to: Lindstrom Knows Jack Sh-t? But then I thought, that a) Wouldn't be nice/true/appropriate for der kinder b) I don't have such authority

Yeah, being able to mess around with people's posts and stuff is pretty sweet.
In any area that says "if you can see this and you are under 13" or whatever, I'll say whatever words I want, but in the rest of the site I try to keep it clean. Still, this site is pretty damn tame. Gabby used to say how she would think about making threads in the mature section that were more personal than just politics or beliefs, but decided against it since it would probably have just been people like me and her in there. |

What am I, Google Maps? Beat it, lady
She pops on MSN semi-regularly. It's pretty nice having a friend who isn't afraid to talk about anything, haha. Currently airing, the Venture Bros. As far as all time stuff goes, Rocko's Modern Life. |

Isn't there a nice ambient, breezy sort of ear-torture in most pop these days?
