Those are very nice looking! So that tree changes to those colors, and then the evergreen won't change for all the seasons? Got it. ;)

Those trees are awesome. :D Only think is the perspective, it seems a little eye level whereas the characters and the other objects are all from a 45 degree upwards angle. But I might just be too picky. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

Hmm, it's minor, but you're right.

*quick edit*

Is this better?

Okay, so I've gotten to the point where I have enough basic tiles that I can form something that resembles scenery. Finalllyyyy. Still have a long long way to go, though. I'm going to do all the outdoors first, then the indoors.

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/rinfin/2a61b358.jpg)
I still need to make my own windows (and slanted roofs). And the default character sprites (that were packed with the program) are so tiny compared to mine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I've made 10 different animated emotion balloons, and I'm almost done with the weather system. It might be hard to tell, but during a sunny day in spring, little Mora petals fall down the screen (they're most noticeable right above the tree in the center, and at the bottom of the screen in the water). Summer has green leaves, fall has red leaves, and in Winter everything is kind of sparkly. The shadowy blotches are clouds floating overhead.

I'm going to change the palette of the brick road; it should be more muted.

WOW.

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW!

Very impressive Nurse Fin, those tilesets are beautiful! Yeah at first glance that knight looked like a piece of moldy cabbage on a table compared to your characters. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) It's fantastic. One thing I notice with the brickroad is the way it meets the building. It seems like the bevel on it should continue or it should be moved back so it's aligned with the building instead of being in front of it. I dunno, minor things. XP

Yeah, the program connects the road and the building automatically (some of the things it does are too automatic, and it can be annoying). I can fix it manually, though, so it's not going to be a problem when I make the real maps for the game.

I like it. I like it a lot!
Another wonderful thing about people who create sprites can also create textures for use in 3-D models.

This is how the town is looking so far! It looks different from the original concept, since I've made so many revisions to the game since then.

Things to be added/changed:
-The stairs
-Slanted roof tiles (the colors don't match here, since I'm using another roof pattern as a placeholder)
-chimneys
-A couple tables & chairs on the patio by the cafe
-Fir-type trees
-general objects (like bushes, boulders, flower pots, mailbox, etc etc)

It's definitely starting to take shape though.

Top row (left to right): Cafe/Inn, Clinic, Mayor's House, School
Bottom row: Bar, General Store

The town square (with town hall/library/church) and main residences are north of the town, and the farmland is to the west, and beyond the farmland are the mines, carpenters and blacksmith (directly north, adjacent to the main residences), flower shop and animal farm (directly west), and a forest (southwest).

Okay... I think I'm getting to the point where I have to ask around for volunteer writers now... and I'm not exactly sure where to start since there is SO MUCH to do. I'm going to have to brainstorm about that a little more. Since I really want to keep things as private as possible, I may have to open up a wiki or something @_@

As far as progress goes... aside from making graphics and a few more features to add (finishing item/recipe lists, and some cosmetic additions), the development has pretty much come to a halt. It's getting to the point where I can't really continue on unless the characters are built up, and there are 6 marriage candidates and several townspeople I know I won't be able to write for.

But first I think I'm going to need to actually give this project a name. Up 'til now I've been referring to it as "Not Harvest Moon". There still isn't any strong theme or storyline going on here (if it even needs one), so that's not making it any easier.

Hmm, a title for the project...

Do you have a name for the town, or anything specifically unique about your game?

I've been lurking in and out every so often to see how this project is coming along ever since I found out about it from dA, and I just have to de-lurk here and say how awesome this project is. :DDD The fact that you did pretty much this whole thing from scratch is really, really amazing, and the sprite work and artwork is really cool! It's so neat how you can draw just like the ToT/Wakuani style! ^^ I'm really looking forward to seeing the game progress! :3

If there's still room for volunteer writers, I'd love to help out! The bachelors/bachelorettes sound really great from what you mentioned, and it'd be really fun to write dialogue for them and any other villagers/townspeople! :3 I've been waiting for a musician bachelor in the HM series forever, but Marvelous never seems to want to put one in any of the games (Besides Gustafa, but...he was more of a traveling bard rather than a serious musician.) I'm psyched that you're planning on putting one in your game, though! :D

As for a name, I looked at the picture for the town and for some reason the first thing I thought of was "Green Grass, Blue Sky", but that's kinda corny, I know...I'm not the best at naming stuff. ^^;

Hi. I just want to say this looks like an awesome idea.
I've seen the pictures, read, etc.

I was just wondering, are you still working on this, Nurse Fin?
It's been a while since your last post, and I'd very much like to see this finished.
I can help you if you want.
I'm good with character designs, and I can write, too.
I'm not good with coding, though.

:)

Oh yeah, I'm definitely still working on this, but not much of anything visual (only icons, some wallpaper tiles, etc)... so that's why I haven't posted too many updates. I've been writing up a lot of text for dialogue, and starting to work out character schedules and foraging patterns.

I also settled on a name for the town. :3 Cosmos Village. A little pun on the flower/plant theme that several HM games have, but the general town theme this time (since I liked ToT/AP's themes) is astronomy. So there's also names like Capella Cafe and Kinsei Smithing.

OMG, I love it. You should make a Emo Kid, that girls can marry, and the rival be some preppy person.
