I always think of myself as having poor grammar. I don't know why, though. I make really stupid mistakes sometimes, but I never get any complaints. I firmly believe my grammar has improved from reading fanfiction. I'd go through it and correct all the mistakes I found (and sometimes, I found TONS), and I think it really helped me a lot. Oh, and when I say go through it, I mean that I didn't use the spellcheck or the grammarcheck. It gets hard sometimes, trying to find exactly what is making a sentence sound wrong and the 'checks' never seemed to help in that case. =/

I have to agree with "Haha" seeming to have a negative connotation. I'm not sure why that is exactly, but to me it's always felt insulting. "Heh" is significantly worse.

I believe the occasional acronyms such as OMG and LOL are acceptable to an extent. I admit to using omg now and then, though I've switched lol for (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) or DX depending on whom my conversation is with.

Commas are tricky. Even taking a Writing course I was basically told commas can be used as the writer feels. Obviously, there are some cases where commas are necessary, but this isn't always the case. Sometimes the placement of commas will change the meaning of sentences though D:

Commas really don't have to be used at all, should the writer phrase his sentences correctly. So its entirely dependent upon that.

I know 'haha' sounds negative, 'lol' just feels more negative to me. I try to use what I would say, like 'hah' or 'haha' or 'heehee'. If all else fails, I uses asterisks. Like, *laughs* or *giggle* or something like that. But like I said, I'm nitpicky.

Commas are definitely one of the hardest things to learn to use properly. Commas, semi-colons, en-dashes, em-dashes, and stuff like that. I'm never quite sure how to use them properly. I just go with whatever feels or looks right in the end.

About the only way one could possibly go wrong with commas is to:
(a) Write long sentences without ever using commas, or...
(b) Pepper your speech with way too many.

There aren't really any solid rules regarding their use. Just put them where you think they belong. That's about it...

I'll admit that I do use "lol" more often than I'd like to admit. I usually put it at the end of the sentence. I sometimes replace it with things like "hehe" or "**laughs**" or the sarcastic "heh." (I always put actions in two asterisks for some reason... I guess because I use one asterisk to emphasize a word.) I think that phrases like "lol" or "omg" do have their place, but they shouldn't be overused.

To me, I'm not very particular about exact grammar. Commas, semi-colons, what have you. But I would quite like spelling to be better, if nothing else proper use of you're, your, and so on. I think the primary exception to just about any rule regarding grammar and spelling however is for the bar. I really really just don't care how much effort is put into a post there.

And no its not Mizuko or Charmy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

Reading this made me feel some what better. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

Well, I have a little trouble typing every now and then. Because oddly enough I always use the shift on the left side with my thumb. It's distressing and it's turned into a habit. I'm going to have to take typing courses so I can improve my typing, and not grow up with problems in my fingers since I seem to use the Internet so much.

But when I'm being sensible I'll read through my post, LIKE NOW. :D But when it isn't in an important manner, I'll be myself not checking what I wrote so much. And I'll be using my words of:
Lawl = laugh out loud (Typing it that way is the cool way.
Omg = Oh my gawd.
And I over use smilies. >.> I don't know why, but I know I use them a little too much.
I have spell check, so I don't have to many problems with spelling errors, but I do have a few grammar problems. And when I'm on the Wii, the why I type is screwed because it's a large keyboard and I'm use to the small spaced laptop keyboards. Overall - Am I a pain or not!?

Oh, gawd, those make me twitch so bad!! I haaaaate that. When it comes to commas, and, well, all punctuation in general, I'm relatively good at it. After writing for several years, I've learned when to use it. When it comes to commas, you've just gotta go with what you FEEL is right. Sometimes, it just goes where you feel you'd pause when talking. My beta sometimes tells me that she doesn't think a certain comma should go in certain places I put them in some of my fanfics. Buuut...I just FEEL like it should go there, so I ignore her. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I used lol and haha, it just depends on what I think would fit better. -.- I sometimes use omg but rarely.

I really hope this actually begins to be reinforced because there a few newer members that constantly make posts that are full of caps and don't make any sense. I realize they're young but I never was like that when I was 12 or 13.

Thanks for making this topic.

Oh my God, this. When people reply "haha" or to something I say, I am so upset. :(
The absolute worst is: "ahha" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalacry.gif)

Oh, for the love of all that is good and pure in this world!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!!! I don't even talk like that when I text or instant message! I talk like normal! Whenever I read stuff like that, I read it like:

OMG. You. Arrrre. All. Gramr. Nazi. lol. Don't. Be. Nazzzi. Pleaz.

Or:

OMG. Butt. I. Liek. Chatspk.

Seriously. It's like, the words in my head have this big break between them, and some words are cut off in weird ways. I don't know why. I hate it though. Having -- to -- break -- between -- each -- word -- is -- annoying.

I thot my gramer was pretty best, I didnt thinkk it was a problom.

But seriously, thank heavens. Ever since a few new people joined, sometimes I can't even understand their message. I may not be a grammar master, but you guys always understand me, and I spell words correctly, write? I think that's probably good enough.

Edit: I think we should make every single post a paragraph, or an ESSAY, reflecting on how you feel about what you're talking about and what you plan to do regarding it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) ? *Is shot with many different sharp objects*

And why is it really SO HARD to end your sentences with a period, quotation, or question mark? It's just a button, and

"What is the problem with grammar I didn't think anyone's was bad"

that is harder to read than

"What is the problem with grammar? I didn't think anyone's was that bad."
