I'm aware of that too. I've used Funky Kong and the Flamerunner to get a few time trials. But I was experimenting nonetheless to see why those ghosts used lightweights.

In regular races it's really a crapshoot as to what to play as since you're gonna be getting hit plenty. Time trials, you shouldn't worry cuz you won't be stopping.

Right at the beginning of the race, on the right there's on opening in the rail, mushroom through there and your a few seconds ahead of everyone to the cannon thing. :D

I know about lots of other shortcuts, I have that Prima book thing that tells you everything about the game. But I've been lazy and haven't checked everything yet.

At the very beginning of Maple Treeway there's a little path to the side that crosses over those twists before the cannon. I personally don't think it's worthwhile, I've tried making it work in Time Trials without any luck.

Aw, I don't like battles as much.
