I'm sure everyone here has played lots of different games, from awesome games to horrible ones that you dont even want to remember again.

So, what games do you recommend people to play? or is there any must play games? Tell me about your favorite games genre too!
* lets exclude Final Fantasy, because I'm sure everyone play this already..and Its way to well known to the world.
and also Harvest Moon from the list of recommended games.

For me, I love RPG and Tactics, most of the game I played came from those two genres.
And here are some games that I recommend people to play.

-Galerians (I think this game is extinct, because the first series if PS1, that was released more than 5 years ago, and I had difficulties to find the sequel for PS2)

I mostly play RPGs, adventure, and fighting games, but I have a weakness for good arcade sports titles, too. Sims are also obvious considering the main series this forum is based on..

Not gonna list obvious stuff (like Zelda or anything that's already been said), but some favorites of mine are

Kid Icarus - all two of them, this and Zelda were the first games I couldn't put down
Jumping Flash - old old Playstaion, I think Sony themselves made this
F-ZERO - not for the faint of heart, the "don't blink and drive" slogan is accurate
EarthBound - I think I've probably said enough about this series already
Castlevania - challenging 2D platformer stuff, can't get enough of it
Vagrant Story - 3D RPG comparable to Metroid and Castlevania, with an amazing plot and a real challenge. Also, no experience points
Punch-Out!! - humor and difficult boxing fights belong together
Chrono Trigger/Cross - fairly Final Fantasy-like, but it's generally sillier and there's no need to grind for more experience points
Secret of Mana - pretty amazing considering how few games are co-op multiplayer, and this actually has a good deal of length to it

Chrono Trigger is the bee's knees. The not needing to grind thing is the bestest thing about it, because I can just pick up the game and actually play it all the way through. Anyway, most of what I play tends to be RPGs and more classic-y style action games. Less story, more awesome. Sorta stark opposites, aren't they? Anyway, here're some of my favorites that haven't already been said.

Deus Ex is a hybrid FPS/RPG, with a great plot, great twists, and fun gameplay. You're JC Denton, a bio-mechanically enhanced agent out to get things done and set the world straight with a selection of whatever guns and tools you can find and your wits. And your ability to take advantage of the AI. Wanna run n' gun like a madman? Go for it. Wanna play the sneak and not hurt a soul? s'good too. Wanna not even USE weapons and use MacGyver like skills to manipulate objects in the environment to save your butt? Can't think of a reason not to.

Uncharted Waters New Horizons is a funktastic sort of pirate/sailing sim. You can select from six characters, each focusing on different aspects of the game. Exploration, treasure, trade, piracy, working for your country, and one guy who's just there to continue the story from the first game hailing from Holland, Italy, the Ottoman Empire, Spain, England, and Portugal respectively. Each character also has their own story, and each character can also say "screw that" and go about doing whatever the heck they feel like. Build up a fleet, recruit some sailors, get to sailing and take on the world during the great age of exploration. It's also on the Virtual Console.

Legend of Valkyrie is a top-down arcade shooter type game that doesn't play at all like a top-down arcade shooter type game. Instead you can take your time through the levels, which is encouraged so you can explore and find all the awesomest stuff. Different weapon types, different magic spells, and a fair share of branching paths to prevent you from snagging everything on the first go around. Also, co-op! None of that taking turns jive so many other shooters of the age liked to do. I don't know a lick of the story beyond the basic premise really, but the whole thing feels charming and enjoyable whatever it is.

everyone seems to be making a killer in terms of taste, but no one has thrown in a Shin Megami Tensei title yet, so here goes. :3

Persona 3 & 4
I'm gong to have to say these two games are near the top of the list for my absolute favorite RPGs of all time. There's something for everyone. A huge brownie point for me is the art style. I'm a sap for a game with amazing art. The characters are extremely well rounded and the storyline is unique in many many ways. They have some scenes that will send you doubling over laughing and others where you'll be all, "onoes! ;-;" As for actual gameplay, it's a delicate turn-based mix between a monster-like fighting game and the traditional physical/magic/items/guard. Another thing I like is that at least in three and four, they're not directly connected, but make reference to eachother. Baw! In sheer contradition to the trippy adventure-style aspects, you have to balance not only your leveling, but your social status as well. The more "social links" you obtain and the higher their levels, the more you can accomplish with your "persona."

I could go on forever in praise but I'll cut myself off here. I highly suggest at least looking in to them. Bet you won't be disappointed.

Odin Sphere - By far one of the most beautifully rendered 2D hack n slash games. Vanilla Ware Inc. is love. <3
RAD - This is how all mech games should have been done.
Mega Man - One of the 'founding fathers' of Nintendo, this series is good up until they started the Battle Network stuff.
Tales of - These games are interesting, and drawn so very beautifully.
Guardian Heroes - A classic Saturn game that brought new life to the action RPG genre.

My favorite game genre is RPG, and I've been a die-hard Xeno Freak since age 12. So obviously I recommend the Xenogears and Xenosaga series... I've never come across any games with such an in-depth universe. It takes hours upon hours to read through XS III's full database alone.

I can't say too much about the plot without giving away spoilers... but the story of Xenogears still feels groundbreaking, even though it's been over 10 years since its release. I really wish they'd re-release it for the PSN Network like they did in Japan, and finally make it available in Europe too.

And I grew so close with the cast of Xenosaga, after following them around and getting to know them over the course of 3 full-length games. I was so sad when the series finally ended, it was like saying goodbye to a close friend. I still play through the games at least once a year. Even with some of the notorious drawbacks to the gameplay (yes, even as a fan I admit the cutscenes are very long, the first episode especially seemed slow-paced, and the aesthetic differences between episode I and II are jarring, and turned a lot of people off... and while I loved the battle systems, I's especially, some people felt it required too much thought and strategy *cough* like that's a bad thing... but the 3rd episode was so incredibly epic that it made up for any faults the first two might have had)... I've never been so captivated by a video game before. There were parts that moved me to tears, anger, and parts that I found pretty creepy, and I'm not so easily creeped. And hey, the protagonist is female. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/monster.png) (though I loved Jr. and KOS-MOS way more than Shion)

The game didn't fall victim to making the plot a sugar-coated field of flowers in order to please everyone; and while I'm sad that not everyone's story is "happily ever after", because I really wanted to see all the characters succeed, and make it through to the end, and get what they want, and etc (except for Dr. Yuriev *cough*), it also made the game that much more powerful. Man, I'm feeling so worked up thinking about it that I feel like I'll have to go play now. Oh, and the mechas are awesome and their pseudo-science is thorough and pretty believable, considering.

On top of that, the dubs for Xenosaga I & III are pretty fantastic... and the translations doubly so... I like the dialogue in English waaaaaay better than the Japanese version, since they make so many references to things that have more grounding in the English language. For example, Revelations is more epic in English than it is in Japanese.

I could also go on explaining all the odd allusions and references to Gears that were in Saga, but it would be long-winded, spoilerific, and would probably seem like moonspeak to anyone that hasn't played the series. So... I'll stop now.

(In comparison the Xenosaga anime was just awful though, don't watch it. The plot got all weird and messed up. Virgil... seriously...? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaeyes.gif) )

And yeah, Chrono Trigger follows the Xeno series; it's awesome... I really loved Cross too, but I have trouble associating it as a direct sequel to Trigger. It felt more like an alternate-dimension kind of thing... it was so dark compared to Trigger.



Also~ Seiken Densetsu 3~ that was my favorite installment of the Mana series. It's just plain fun to play.

Also, yeah. Seiken Densetsu 3 is funderful.

I would recommend...

-Okami: It's absolutely creative! A very adventure-y game, like Zelda.

-Trauma Center Series: Very fun for anybody. One of the best simulation games out there. Plus a great storyline! (In all games)

-Pokemon: I think the handhelds are the best. No doubt you'll be playing them for months.

-Wii Sports Resort: Super fun for EVERYONE, so easy and simple to get into.

The suggestion that comes to mind is the Lunar series. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete are easily among my most favourite games of all time. I shelled out $100 just to get the complete box of Lunar 2, though I'm still not sure if the game even works. I've beaten the games a few times but they're still on my list to play again.

Let's start with

Sonic The Hedgehog
This was my very first true video game addiction. I picked up Sonic 2 one day, and never stopped. My eyes bled by the time I had been able to get to the Death Egg thingy in half an hour or something. Everything after Sonic Adventure isn't that great. But this used to be my very favorite series.

Mega Man
Mega Man X series is definitely my favorite out of all the branches, but still. Mega Man is also one of the greatest franchises of all time.

Fire Emblem
I love the crap out of this series. Fuuin No Tsurugi is probably one of my favorite games of all time. This series is a very great one. It's definitely up in my top five.

Golden Sun
This was also one of my most favorite series. I love it to death. (Points at set)

Punch Out
I don't really know what to say about it. I find it very fun and addicting.

Little King's Story
This game is already on my top five favorite games. I will die inside if they don't make a sequel.

Saffy, you are my new hero. Lunar: SSSC is what got me started on RPGs all together. I was actually playing it not too long ago, but my second disk is damaged, so I could go no further. ;-; Oh the agony.

I remember finding it at Blockbuster one day and being interested because of the sword on the cover. I was looking for a new game I hadn't played before and wow, was I ever glad to pick it up. I later went out and bought Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete though I have a version with ugly fan-made drawings on the discs D: It is sucky. I also didn't get anything cool such as the music disk. Still though! I have played the game through twice as well as a bit of the Gameboy Advance version which I stopped at the sewers. Those sewers always bummed me out.

One day I'll get around to beating Lunar 2 again. It sucks that I still have no idea if the game disks actually work. I do know the music CD was a bit scratched though =\ I'm still happy to have the game in my possession.

Pretty much. It plays a lot like Fire Emblem, except UNLIKE Fire Emblem it doesn't punish you so darn severely. Of course that doesn't mean it can't be hard. In fact, it gives it a perfect reason to make things harder since you don't need to worry about people dying all the time.

Owh, I used to play earthbound ... It was one of my favorite for SNES games...interesting story, I like it especially the part where you have mushroom on your head, and you have to see the doctor to take them off from your head and you sell the mushroom for money (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif)

I stopped playing Chrono Cross halfway because I got stuck and I get very frustrated. The story is pretty confusing to me,but the fighting element is sure interesting and different from other games.

Yay for Mana series.. I love it so much especially for Legend of Mana! I played that game over and over to get all the quest and all endings. But the newest series on NDS is pretty disappointing..

I should say, Yaggdrasil Union (not sure how to spell the names right) is pretty awesome as well..
